Description

408C Rubber Renue restores old rubber parts that have hardened and lost their tackiness and flexibility. It causes the rubber to swell, allowing dirt to come out of its pores. When the solvent dries, the rubber returns to its form and remains tacky, allowing rollers and platens to retain their grip. Applications and Uses: 408C Rubber Renue restores the tackiness of platens and rollers, helps to remove dirt, ink, and sticky residues, and may also restore the flexibility of belts, conveyors, and seals. It works by causing the rubber cells of belts, platens and rollers to swell, allowing dirt particles and contaminants to be wiped away easily. Once the product has completely evaporated, the rubber cells shrink back to normal size and the surface is refreshed and ready for service. Rubber Renue is a blend of highly volatile solvents. These solvents should not be breathed in, or used within a non- ventilated environment. Clean parts in an exterior environment, or under adequate ventilation exhausted safely to outside the building. Rubber Renue performs best when used as follows: Use gloves, and appropriate safety measures to prevent breathing in fumes Apply a small amount of the product to a clean, dry cloth (just enough to dampen cloth) Apply portion of the cloth dampened with Rubber Renue onto platen, roller or belt and wipe until surface is clean Allow area to dry until Rubber Renue has completely evaporated After Rubber Renue has evaporated store cloth in a sealed container until it can be washed or discarded ATTENTION! This product utilizes strong solvents and is intended for use in professional maintenance and repair operations. Features & Benefits Rejuvenates old, dry, and hard rubber Restores tackiness, flexibility, and elasticity

  • Worked for my tape deck pinch rollers
Size: 125mL
Yes, it's very expensive. But I took a chance and bought it to refurbish the pinch rollers on my 50-year-old Sony TC-788-4 reel-to-reel tape deck. They were glazed, shiny and hard, and would not move the tape correctly. I did two rounds of applying the Renue according to the instructions, with a good cleaning with alcohol after each round of Renue. I got a LOT of black residue off, so I knew the Renue has opened up the rubber surface. Afterwards I did a very light scuffing with fine grit sandpaper. The capstans are now a nice matt color, and they are working nicely. Be sure to use this stuff outdoors or with an exhaust fan; it's very volatile. I wore nitrile gloves. I should have used an eye covering because my eyes watered for a day after using it. After closing the jar, I put it in a thick sealed plastic bag to help contain the fumes. Just be careful, but the stuff really works. ... show more

  • Restored my old dried out platen from 70's typewriter
Size: 125mL
I was skeptical at first when I read the reviews of this product. But it vastly improved the platen on my 60's typewriter, the Hermes Baby's platen into a supple and dull looking platen like it was just replaced. Mind you, I only applied 1 coat for now. It seems to get absorbed by the platen almost instantly when it is applied. So multiple coats should penetrate deep into the platen to make it softer so each key type should become more pronounced. Awesome product, recommened for those that have vitage typewriter that has dried out platens that are rock hard. Be sure to apply it in well ventilated area. Smell is similar to Ben-Gay topical cream. CAUTION: Be sure not to get any of the stuff on plastic or it will start to disintegrate it. Best to take the platen out of the assembly or anything that's not rubber. ... show more

  • Great Product
Size: 125mL
This works well on equipment with rubber wheels that are worn and replacement wheels hard to find and/or replace. The smell maybe strong to some but it dissipates pretty fast.

  • I love this stuff
Size: 125mL
I have used this on old power cords/harnesses for a while and I love it. It cleans and brings life back to cords that would otherwise be cut off and replaced. It has saved the original power cords that had gotten stiff with age on several of my vintage stereo receivers. It also made the harness on my vintage 1959 boat look like new. I cannot praise this product enough! It does have a distinct smell but it isn't a strong chemical odor like you'd expect - it smells like peppermint which I find quite tolerable, but I don't recommend hanging around and breathing it long term..it is still a chemical after all.. ... show more

  • Good Stuff
Size: 125mL
I purchased a couple of roll paper note pad things that were probably manufactured back in the mid 1970's. They have a small rubber wheel that feeds calculator roll paper onto a writing plate. The rubber wheel has dry and would not grip the paper. Used this 408C Rubber Renue product on the wheels and they are actually almost like new. Grip the paper just fine. All I did was paint the product on the wheels with a small artist type paint brush. Let it set for a little while and wiped off any excess. I believe I applied 2-3 coats. Great stuff and glad I found it. Would definitely purchase this product again. ... show more

  • 408C works on Zebra Printers!
Size: 125mL
This stuff is awesome: MG Chemicals Rubber Renue 408C. We have a mix of the newest and oldest Zebra printers. As a test, we decided to try to restore the rubber on the platen rollers of our oldest printers. This is that white rubber roller underneath the printhead. These rubber rollers were so old and dried out with no grip and super smooth, about 15 to 20 year old printers. We put the 408C on a paper towel and wiped the rollers, and within about 2 minutes they felt like brand new rubber rollers with that new grip feeling. I would recommend this product for zebra platen rollers for sure. Oh! and as a bonus... It smells like wintergreen mint and not like strong chemicals. ... show more

  • Great product for rubber restoration!
Size: 125mL
This stuff is amazing! It instantly restored the suction to my “dry-rotted “rubber NAB reel holders and the pinch roller to “like new” functionality and look!

  • Did not work for me...
Size: 125mL
Never worked for my printer, looks like the 408a (which was discontinued) worked as advertised, applied it to the rubber roller, gave it a day or two, all it did was wet it and made it more slippery, now to be honest, I don't know the correct way to apply it but did this to the best of my knowledge, it just did not work for me. ... show more
