  • Restore and polish weathered/faded plastics? Sort-of...
Style: PlastX
I purchased this based upon a Pinterest article suggesting that it could be used to restore the clouded/faded plastic tops of some outdoor solar lights that I use in the garden. The type of plastic used in these isn't known to be the same type that's used on automobile headlight and taillight lenses, for which this product is frequently used. But I thought it would be worth a try. It's easy enough to apply this creamy liquid to the surface, rub it in for a while, then remove it with a microfiber cloth before it dries out, as directed on the label. The lights on which I used it were quite clouded and weathered from being outdoors year 'round in the sun and all kinds of weather. Upon removing the the cleaner and buffing the surface with the microfiber cloth, I can say that there was definitely some improvement in the clarity of the plastic lens/cover, but I wouldn't characterize it as a 'restoration'. I tried a second application, which didn't seem to provide any additional clarity. But in this case, any improvement will be helpful in allowing more sunlight to reach the solar cells underneath to charge the batteries, so I'll proclaim this to be a moderately successful experiment. I also tried it on a solar birdbath fountain, which has been in use for the past two summers, and stored inside during the off-seasons. It's protective lens was very clouded, hiding from view the elements underneath that collect the sun's rays and turn them into electrical charges. I tried three applications of the polish on the surface, and achieved a greater degree of clarity than when I started, but that's about all I can say. Maybe I'm hoping for too much from this product. It helps, but it doesn't 'renew'. Fortunately, this was an inexpensive experiment, so I'm pleased to a degree with the results. I don't know how it would perform on a vehicle headlamp or taillight lens, which is the application many may users may have for it. But for my application, I'll give it an unenthusiastic rating of 'almost good enough'. ... show more

  • Works well removing stains from instrument panel
Style: PlastX
I recently bought a used car and someone had sprayed something (I know not what) on the shift and instrument panels that left spots I couldn't remove. I was actually afraid to try anything other than water for fear of messing it up further. So I searched and read reviews and decided to try Meguiar's PlastX. I tested a small section first and it didn't do any damage so I did a bigger section. I had to rub a bit, but it did a good job, as you can see in the pics. Most of the reviews are for cleaning the headlights, but I recommend it if you've got spots or scratches on your panel. Big thumbs up! ... show more

  • Amazing product, works incredibly well
Style: PlastX
See my before and after photos. I used Plastx on our very old 2009 Honda CRV. The headlight assemblies were yellowed and cloudy like you typically see on old cars that have been outside a lot. However, with a simple application of this product, the cloudiness and yellowing have basically disappeared! The clarity of the headlights is incredible to see. To be fair, it isn’t a perfect restoration. It won’t touch deep scratches and pitting like from rocks and debris that have left marks in the plastic, and it appears that there is some cloudiness to the INTERIOR surface of the plastic headlight assembly, so of course this won’t fix that. Even so, this product performs as described, and I’m quite impressed. For such a small time and money investment, you get mega improvement for your old headlamps. 100% worth it; 100% recommended. The look of the car is much nicer, and the effect on road illumination while driving with the lights on is better too. Note: this is not a long term fix on its own. I have done this twice now, once about 16 months ago, and again now in 3/2023. Since my initial use, the cloudiness and yellowing have returned. Still, another application of the product clears it right up. To preserve the clarity, you do need the clear coat spray, also offered by Maguire’s. I got the clear coat protector this time around, which will maintain the restored look for about a year according to the label. ... show more

  • DOES THE JOB. BUT....
Style: PlastX
Meguiar's PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish works very well. If you garage your vehicle when not driven also extends the life of clear plastic lens. Regular use of Meguiar's polishes and waxes also helps a lot. Remember to always apply wax, polish or whatever you are using to the lens. Just as the finish on your vehicle needs protection, so does the lenses for your lights. One thing I have noticed on my 2003 Lincoln Navigator (purchased new) is that the clear, plastic lens although having been well protected during the past almost 20 years is that the inside of the lens are starting to show a minimal amount of a haze. My Lincoln has the HID headlights which emit UV Radiation much like the sun does. Even though I park my SUV in an enclosed garage, there's really nothing that can be done to protect the inside of the lighting assembly other than maybe dissembling both light fixtures and applying a wax or Meguiar's Plastix cleaner to the back side of the clear lens. Fortunately the haze on my vehicle's lens is minimal and is barely noticeable at night; not during the day. ... show more

  • I got this to try something that I could do with rubbing my hands off.
Style: PlastX
This stuff went on and off very good, I did use a foam disc on my drill to make it go faster. I guess I still have some fingers to type with cause it worked well for me.

  • Works As advertised.
Style: PlastX
I bought the product to improve headlight function on my daughters 2009 vehicle. It does work, but requires quite a bit of time and effort. My concern was not so much the ascetics as to improve projection of light from the headlights. It has helped. Proper light throw from your headlights is important for safety so yes, I recommend it. ... show more

  • Very happy with the results!
Style: PlastX
Bought this with the spray and very happy with the results. I cleaned the headlight housing assembly the second time after the first wiping still left some peeling but after everything was done, it restored the lenses.
