  • Great carport kit; sturdy, well-designed & went together easily!
Our family of three have built many tin & wooden sheds, carports, etc., but this kit has been by FAR the best of them. We ordered the 20x20’ carport, and it arrived in seven boxes, so don’t be afraid of the shipping weight. The roof pieces are approximately 5’ long each, and each box was manageable, but they’re heavy, so just be ready with a dolly to roll the boxes to your assembly area. It’s much heavier than the smaller, round aluminum tubing you frequently find in kits – it’s meant to last a long time! The kit arrived with minimal shipping damage – one of the square steel frame tube ends had gotten a small dent, but was easily straightened with a small pry bar to get the frame end back to a square shape. The only other parts that got damaged were the decorative plastic end-caps that go on the ends of the bottom frame front & back. Two of them got cracked and split, but the other two survived. Not bad for how heavy this kit is! The metal roof parts arrived virtually undamaged, other than the very edge point of a couple of them got curved slightly, and we straightened them out with a pair of pliers and a rag against the material to prevent marking the panels. PREP Step 1: You will have some prep to do. First, prepare your site. We opted with 12” square pavers and then we got some of those J-shaped rebar anchor pieces (24” long) for added anchoring. The kit does come with a few anchor spikes but we didn’t feel confident in them and added our own. You need to make sure your site is squared, too, because if not, your roofing panels will be more challenging to align. It’s worth the time to prep up your site – however you opt – and make sure it’s level/square. PREP Step 2: We laid out all the pieces, sorted them per the manual (which is surprisingly good!), and then we spent a day peeling the protective plastic off of every roofing panel, and I believe there were a total of 26 of both “Panel G” and “Panel H” (your quantity will vary depending on the size of your carport). If you’ve ever built a tin shed in recent years, you know that the peeling part can be challenging because the plastic is super thin. This kit comes with a thicker coating of protective plastic, so it’s a bit easier to pull free (it gets easier to peel if you let the panels warm up a bit in the sunshine). Every part has a white sticker with the designated letter for the assembly steps, and nothing was missing in the kit, but when you peel the roofing panels, the letters come off, so have a marker at hand to re-label them. PREP Step 3: Per the instructions, the kit comes with rolls of double-sided adhesive foam, and it is VERY STICKY. Our particular panels had to have the tape pre-applied at certain locations, and instead of trying to do it on-the-fly, it’s MUCH easier to take your time, measure, and apply the tape to the panels on a work surface (we were working on the back of our utility trailer and a couple sawhorses). For our size kit, ALL of the “Panel G” got the tape placed on one end, and it’s clear in the directions of the measurements – follow the manual and you’ll be FINE), and half of the “Panel H” got the tape. We ended up with three piles of roofing panels across our trailer – 13 untaped Panel H, 13 taped Panel H and 26 taped Panel G. Sounds confusing, but it’s really not. Just watch in the manual where they indicate where the tape is placed and don’t put the tape BEYOND the measurement that’s shown in brackets, or it’ll show when installed. While this is being done, the frame can be assembled if you’re lucky to have three people to put this together, but if not, just know that it’s a couple hours of extra prep, but it’ll make final assembly a LOT easier. There was about a half-roll of adhesive tape left over at the end, so you have a little wiggle room in case you make an error, but be careful. It sticks quickly, and does NOT come off easily – it’ll leave chunks of foam behind. I’ve never seen a kit come with this extra step, and it’ll definitely keep the edges where the panels overlap from lifting up in the breeze, and if it can’t move easily/wiggle incessantly in the wind, it’ll keep the self-tapping screws in place longer and will survive storms better. TIME TO BUILD: It took most of a day to build the frame with two people. It comes with all the hardware, but FYI (AND BEWARE!!!) there isn’t a lot of extra hardware. Be prepared with a magnet bar or something, because if you lose a bit of hardware, you’re gonna be scrounging in your own parts bins. We ended up with only three extra roofing panel screws; no frame hardware leftover at all. That’s it. The parts went together well (except that one that was bent slightly in shipping), and everything fit properly. We didn’t have re-drill or open up holes or any of that hassle that usually comes with these kits. The parts aligned; the hardware fit. Just what you WANT. When you get the frame built, TAKE EXTRA TIME TO CHECK SQUARE CORNER-TO-CORNER! This is important for the roofing panels. The frame is heavy when assembled, but with two people, it definitely makes the work easily manageable, and our family are 55+ yrs old. When assembled, it becomes sturdy, and you can DEFINITELY tell the difference between the square steel frame compared to typical carports with that thinner, round aluminum tubing that can bend easily. If you hit this with your car door, the door will dent; not the other way around. It’s STRONG and stable. When you start the roofing panels, the hardest part is the peak (you start at the top of the carport and work down each side). Once you conquer that, it goes fairly quickly. We completed the peak and once side in about 4 hours; then the second side in about 3.5 hrs. FINISHING TOUCHES: The kit also comes with that rubber trim with the metal inside (kind of like what you add around car doors), and you just push that on around the whole roof perimeter. Tin snips work much better than scissors to cut it at the corners. It’s really a nice touch and will keep the very ends of the roofline from getting lifted, curled and bent in high winds or storms, and it looks much more finished. There’s an included solar dusk-to-dawn light, installed with two of the last three leftover self-tapping screws that has an off, low-to-high-with-motion and an on setting. The kit also comes with a set of tarp curtains, curtain rings, and aluminized fiber-reinforced tape (the directions didn’t list what it’s for, but it may be for the side panels since they’re like tarp “curtains” and you could reinforce them or patch them I suppose), and a tube of caulking just in case you spot a leak. It’s quite an over-the-top kit, and well-equipped. Without pushing ourselves, we completed this 20x20 carport in three partial days, not counting the site prep that took several hours because we’d gotten a load of rock dropped. In summary – the GOOD: Much better frame – square steel tubes that overlap well, and held together with nuts and bolts. This frame is heavy – had to be shipped in 7 boxes. Comes with everything – even the self-tapping screw driver bit, and a little wrench for the hardware! Directions are MUCH BETTER than the typical you see for sheds and carports. Everything lined up; we didn’t have to drill holes because stuff was misaligned. The roof panels are pre-drilled, and the self-tapping nuts go into the steel frame fairly well. You only need basic tools: An impact driver for the self-tapping screws, a socket set makes the hardware much faster to assemble on the frame, a tape measure, a marker, and a pair of tin snips for the rubberized edge trim along with a taller ladder (or two if you’re lucky to have a friend helping). The added touches of the adhesive double-sided tape, the edge guard, the side curtains (we didn’t opt to use them), and even a tube of caulk makes this kit WELL WORTH IT. The BAD: We wish they supplied a few extra pieces of hardware. Be careful and aware of that. Our kit did have a small amount of shipping damage, but it was minor and fixable, except the two steel frame end covers. We’ll reach out to the manufacturer, but we’re keeping the kit. The overall carport is fantastic, and we’re VERY happy with the outcome. ... show more

  • We’ll constructed
The quality of this carport is great, very well constructed. Easy to put together. I do have to say that it was a pain and very time consuming to take the protective film off all the roofing panels. I found it a little easier after that warmed up in the sun. We did have an issue with one to many center roof panels and short one end panel. So we had to drill some holes in them to make it work. ... show more

  • I will consider buying this product again in the future.
Pretty solid construction. It does seem to away a bit but that might be because we haven't fully anchored it down as of yet. We are waiting for our concrete to fully dry. Honestly it seems to be worth the money for sure. I only have two big suggestions I would give the company. One, put some extra screws in please. They give you exactly the amount you need so God forbid you drop one, loose one or break one you will be heading to the store for more. Our local store is an hour away and didn't have black screws so that was a bit of a production. Two, the packaging is great but maybe find something that is easier to remove from the 52 metal roof panels. I believe I spent 5 hours removing the plastic seran wrap they put on the panels that really didn't help with scratches if another metal piece touched it. Other then that the directions were pretty clear and with two or more people it's a pretty easy build. Plan on a full day to get it done if you pretty handy maybe plan for two days of your not. We got parts organized and frame built in about 3 hours. The roof took much longer. ... show more

  • Not a good item
Panels are not all the same, have leaks every where!!!!! panels have already started to rust on the ends, not a sturdy structure! this is why its cheap to purchase!! I don't recommend purchasing this item

  • It leaks along the seams
Assembly was straightforward, the panels were difficult to remove the plastic protection on it. Because there’s so many individual panels there is a leaking problem. I was careful to measure and put the double stick foam tape in the right place and even use silicone, but still leaks. Pretty disappointed that I got it to keep our vehicles dry and it’s not working. I would go with longer panels and avoid purchasing this one. ... show more

  • High quality
This was better quality than expected. Excellent carport. Things to know. 1. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS EXACTLY.!!!! Dont guess, or close enough....be exact I saw youtube videos with how they did it....dont follow them, it didn't turn out correctly because of lack of square on the video's 2. Spent the money and get a high quality drill bit...buy 4 of them. Although the kit comes with self tapping screws, the thick metal and overlapping pieces means pre drilling is a must. 3. Watch your screw hole alignment on roof. Make small adjustments early to prevent big mistakes. Aim for the center 4. Take your time! Seriously, I had 3 people, multiple ladders, impacts and drills..took 2 days. Company suggestions 1. Add truss spacing bar to the top. Although the system works, truss spacing at the top would help square up the verticals 2. Add a little extra hardware screw and bolts. I got scared with only 6 self tappers left over. Although it was enough, I almost went to the store because I was worried about finishing. Maybe a small "extra" labled baggie. I combed the grass for every one dropped. Very happy with my purchase. If everting (8 boxes) dont come , take a breath. The rest came the next day. Customer service was excellent. I emailed and asked about missing boxes, they responded with tracking numbers and delivery date within 24 hrs Also asked which box had the instructions, they sent them to me electronically. ... show more
