Description

The Knickerbocker "Monster" metal frame is the most recognizable name in bed frames. This is because of it being the strongest bed frame that we carry and the fact that it fits all standard sizes. It has heavy duty headboard brackets so, attaching your headboard is relatively fast and easy. Height is 8 inch tall. The entire frame is made up of what is thicker steel than you see in other frames. The rails are actually 50% larger than other comparable, premium models. Additionally, it offers 7 legs for support; not the standard 4, 5 or six. Very heavy duty rollers are included, as well. This extra-strong Knickerbocker Frame comes with a lifetime manufacturer warranty! This frame has not 5, but 7 legs of support and that can prevent sagging even with multiple people sleeping on top. The Knickerbocker Monster Frame is probably the last bed frame you'll ever have to buy. Easily adjustable to change with your preference in bed size.

  • Good quality frame but needs more detailed instructions. Also Amazon Delivery manhandles oversized bed frame packages so beware.
The positives on this bed frame are that it has wheels (2 of which lock, they go at the 4 outer corners of the bed frame) and 3 gliders that fit along the center crosspiece which gives the Monster bed frame a lot more stability, yet make the bed easy to move once it's put together. The biggest immediate negative are the less than clear one side of one 8.5 x 11" page of instructions. It's not at all obvious how to pick the right orientation or sizing for a Twin vs. Full vs. Queen bed (there's a pair of cross pieces and 4 fasteners you use for a King or a Cal King bed frame). Thank goodness for the Internet though. That solved my confusion. In searching online for better assembly instructions, I found a YouTube video with an employee from Michigan Discount Mattress assembling an all glider (7 glider pieces rather than 4 wheels and 3 gliders) version of this bed frame (and setting it up for a queen sized bed). By following this YouTube video and the incomplete instructions, I figured out how to put the frame together correctly. The process took about 5 minutes and it goes better if you have a Phillips head screwdriver (to more tightly attach the center frame bar to the rest of the bed frame) and a rubber mallet (to securely attach the gliders and wheels to the bed frame). But you could get the frame together without any tools (though you might want to tighten it up after use). I am using the frame with a Twin XL natural latex mattress, so I had to use different slots for sizing and assembly (and it would be nice if there was a way to slightly lengthen the frame to accommodate the extra length of a Twin XL mattress), but I will get some bed slats made for the Monster bed frame. It will fit 5 out of 6 kinds of mattresses as is (Twin Full Queen King or Cal King) as is and that makes it a very versatile bed frame. Part of the frame at one headboard corner on my Monster bed frame was slightly bent but I banged it back straight with a hammer. I am sure this is due to whomever Amazon is using to deliver bigger heavier oversized packages these days (it was either FedEx or UPS that brought this to my home and they likely dropped it and snagged and tore up the box at one end in the shipment and delivery process), so I have to take a star off for that too. But hopefully Amazon works on their delivery process to prevent this from happening to future customers. I am still hunting for good bed slats to use with this frame...the Twin XL slats I bought here on Amazon are a joke (wrong size, 1" too wide to fit the Monster bed frame, cheap rough wood, flimsily glued to a couple ribbons) and to support and prolong the life of my new custom made natural latex mattress (thanks CozyPure!), I really need bed slats that fit the Knickerbocker Monster bed frame well and won't tear up my mattress's cover. ... show more

  • Decent frame-terrible packaging
I ordered this frame as it had wheels and looked very sturdy. When it arrived the box was very beat up. Upon opening it I found the frame bent in front and very dirty. This company either has very poor packaging engineers or in general just don't care. the frame is sturdy enough and overall OK after a frame repair and cleaning, BUT would not buy it again. My impression is the company only cares about anal manufacturing. ... show more

  • Solid, quality bed frame with one caveat.
The height offset of the center beam could be considered a design flaw of an otherwise very good quality sturdy frame. Thankfully there is a cheap and simple solution. I read a review on the mattress underground about someone needing to use a 0.5 inch thick piece of wood in order to have the center beam be level with the side frames. I went to home depot and got a 0.5 inch x 2.5 inch x 56 inch long wood moulding (had them cut it to length) and it raised the center beam perfectly. It cost me about $7. I attached the wood moulding on the center beam with packing tape. It's called S4S moulding and costs $1.49/foot for those interested. Someone in the Q&A section also asked about the height difference. I'm glad I ran into these couple comments about the center height and was prepared before my new mattress and box spring were delivered. In the attached picture you can see the white 0.5 inch thick wood moulding taped to the center beam. The cardboard packaging isn't well insulated so one of the headboard brackets and one of the metal bedposts were slightly bent, but nothing you can't adjust with at bit of hammering. ... show more

  • HEAVY DUTY? Yes, definitely!
This frame is well made; the HEAVY DUTY title description is completely accurate. The frame itself is made with thick metal bars. The wheels and legs are a combination of metal and plastic, all of it super sturdy. I'm using it with a heavy King sized wood knock down type foundation and heavy foam rubber mattress, and the thing is a rock. Pros: - Well made with quality materials and wide center bar - Center bar runs from top to bottom of the bed. This is important if your foundation / box spring has a center board running its length on the bottom, or if you are using a split foundation (two twin foundations for a King mattress, for example). Some frames have a center bar running side to side instead, which is not as supportive. - Plenty of contact points with the ground to keep everything sturdy and stable over time - Won't budge once built and in place, 2 of the 4 wheels can lock so the frame won't wiggle - Wheels and center gliders let it move pretty easily if you need to move it - Has standard bracket for a headboard if you'd like to attach one - Installation is straightforward; the only tool you need is a screwdriver Cons - More expensive than other frames, but well worth it for the quality and longevity! - No brackets for a footboard if you want to use one ... show more

  • Great bed frame !
I chose this frame mainly for two reasons. The first being that I wanted a heavy duty frame that would last and when I chose to upgrade to a larger size bed, I could use the same frame. After some research, I ended up with the Knickerbocker brand. These bed frames are made with recycled railroad steel ([...]) and I don’t think you can get a stronger bedframe! My parents have this same frame that they’ve had for 35+ years with their waterbed and I figured if it could hold a waterbed, it could hold a conventional mattress no problem. The bed doesn’t move when changing position, getting in and out of bed, normal ‘exercising’ that happens in bed, and even when sitting on the end of the bed, it doesn’t move, and is very stable feeling. If I had a complaint, it would be that the frame is brown and the wheels are white. I wish they were brown to blend in better, but it’s a small thing. ... show more
