    • C-Wire Work-Around If No AC, Works With HomeKit
Existing wiring didn't have a dedicated C-wire, but found an easy fix if there’s no AC in your HVAC system. I had 4-wires going from furnace to thermostat. This furnace is in a shop so there's no AC. To create a C-wire, I took the Y-wire (which controls AC equipment) and connected it to the C terminal inside the furnace and on the Meross mounting bracket. Again, you're moving the Y-wire (mine was actually blue in color) to the C terminal on both ends. That gave me a proper C-wire BUT you need to tell the Meross app during setup that there's no Y-wire, and that there is a C-wire. So when the app asks you what wires you have, you simply input C, G, R, W. Doing this got the app to add the device properly (it does take a few minutes, just place phone near or leaning on top of the thermostat during this process, and be extra patient). The result is that in the app, the only options are HEAT and OFF (no AC, because it thinks there is none, and it's correct.) It’s best to add the device inside the Meross app first, then in the Apple Home app, if you're using an iPhone and HomeKit. The thermostat works well thus far and there are many setup and scheduling parameters in the Meross app. Having used a number of other Meross HomeKit devices, their app and build quality are better than most. Plus the price was very reasonable for a smart HomeKit compatible thermostat—during the Prime Spring Deal it was $69.99. Important to note, if you don't have a C-wire, and do have AC, Meross makes a “C Wire Adapter” kit for $25.99 that solves the lack of a C-wire issue (Meross Model MCA100). ... show more
