  • Outstanding home workout solution!
Like most people, I quickly realized after the pandemic crisis began, self-isolation became the new norm, and gyms closed indefinitely that adjustable dumbbells were sold out everywhere and extremely hard to find (unless you wanted to pay 3 or 4 times MSRP on Ebay). At first I had my sights set on hunting down either a pair of Bowflex SelectTech 552s or Core Home Fitness adjustable dumbbells, but had zero luck for a solid month finding either of those in stock at any legitimate online retailers. As it turns out, I'm really glad that happened, because after doing a bit more research, I discovered the Merax set, which have a better range (11 - 71.5 lbs) for people who don't want want to be limited to a 50 lb per dumbbell max (which is the case with both the Bowflex 552 or Core Home Fitness sets), and I guess I got lucky on timing since I was able to stumble upon a third-party Amazon seller that had the Merax dumbbells & stand sold together (they can be purchased separately) for only a little more than MSRP....Looks like the secret's out now 'cause they're currently going for wayyyy more than I paid about a month ago. Anyway, so far I'm absolutely loving the Merax pair. They seem very well made and well designed: It's easy to quickly dial in different weight setting (just set them in their trays, push the red button, turn the dial to desired weight (make sure you hear a click, indicating they've locked onto the correct plates), and you're good to go! And although the increments are listed in kilograms instead of pounds, honestly it's not that big of a deal...You can either print out a conversion chart and keep it close by (which is what I do) or simply become familiar with what "feels right" in kilograms and base your workouts on that. Once slight concern I had after reading other reviews before purchasing was that some people have apparently had plates fall out/off of the main units in the middle of a workout, which is potentially dangerous and indicative of a possible manufacturing defect. So far I haven't experienced this (fortunately), but I always think about it when I'm lifting and consciously hold the dumbbells to where the open slots on the plates are facing down instead of up, just in case (that way the plates won't fall even if they become disengaged). Plus the reviews of Merax's customer service are glowing and they apparently do a great job of replacing faulty units if there's any problem, so I'm really not that concerned about it. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase of the Merax Adjustable Dumbell Set & Stand and highly recommend them to anyone who wants a better adjustable dumbbell weight range for more intensity! Skip the Bowflex and Core Fitness hype and buy these instead...You won't regret it! ... show more

  • Easy to use
These are super easy to use. They fall short of receiving a 5 star review because of manufacturing differences that are apparent after purchasing a pair. There are slight differences between the 2 ordered. The grips are plastic as well as the locking mechanism, which may impact durability. Other than that, the mechanism is very easy to use, and having so many options for the weight is amazing. Much cheaper than the other brands, so if they last a few years under normal use, then the minor differences in manufacturing can be ignored and make these an amazing purchase. ... show more

  • Worth every cent! Lifesaver for COVID times!
As someone who lifts weight 6 days a week, 30-60 mins each (or more) for years: Good - I’m overall very happy with them! - They seem to be VERY study. With that amount of weight, I was worried about how they would be – but they are supper solid. At no time did they feel all unstable, or feel like they might come apart doing a lift - I’m happy with the amount of weight, both what you can select and how high it goes. It’s is the most weight I’ve found in adjustable dumbbells (sweet!) - They are super easy to use – very clear how to change weight, and very easy to select - They are ok in form factor – I was worried they would be clunky, which would be a pain for some moves. They are pretty much like normal dumbbells - They seem to be ok on the hardwood – some dumbbells would destroy the floor. These are round with no sharp edges, and have a little floor tray to put them in - The price isn’t bad – gouging is going on, but they look about ½ the price of max bowflex (52 pounds) Not as good (but still good!) - I wish they had MORE weight. With everything shut down, I’m really limited in what I can do (and can only have so much at home because of limited space). I’d love for these to go to 120 or 140! I am near max on some things, but for a lot of exercise, 72/140 is very moderate. - They’re dumbbells! :😊 I work out with dumbbells daily, but at higher weight they tend to be a pain to use. Which is normally not a problem, but if you are only doing dumbbells – just gets old and makes we want a barbell or machine 😊 - I wish it came with a stand (you can buy one but it’s like $189) – it’s ok, but I don’t really have anything to put them on but the floor, and get tired of doing a row to get them up for a curl, LOL - The biggest concern I have is how they will do over time – the selectable thing means it has moving parts, which will eventually degrade. Reviews say they stay good – I’ll be interested to see how that stand up against daily lifting (Arika will also use them) - They are measured in KG not LG – not a big deal, but not used to that. ... show more
