This is thick enough that you can tell a real difference on your mattress. I bought it for an extended stay at a hotel and it was well worth it. I slept great. It smelled like lavender right out of the package. No nasty plastic smell.

I ordered a Twin XL size. It turned out to be perfect for what I got it for (to line the inside of a sound box). It expanded pretty quickly (was nearly fully expanded in under and hour, even though instructions say to give it 48-72), and while one side was slower to expand than the other, it was easily 2.8-3.5" thick everywhere once fully expanded. It initially appeared a bit short, but it turned out that I was just impatient, since after I cut it into measured panels the panels expanded a bit more, lol. I did lay down on it before cutting it into panels, out of curiosity. It was quite comfortable, and had I ordered it to sleep on I'd be very pleased with it (in fact, I might still order another for sleeping). I personally have not noticed any smell, aside from a very faint (as in barely there) whiff of lavender when my face is very close to it, which IMO is just right. That said, I am not sensitive to smells in the same way that some people seem to be. I also think this would make a great camping sleep cushion, based on seeing it in person, though I obviously have not used it that way. I did remove 1 star, simply because after working with it in person (while cutting and gluing it into panels for my sound box) I can see the plausibility that when used to sleep on, over time, there might be potential for rips to develop (like those shown in some review pics) especially if one tends to toss and turn, or 2 people use the bed and inadvertently it gets pulled too strongly in opposing directions, say, when one person turns over. At the same time, I assume that would be more likely to happen with the thinner and wider versions of the topper, and suspect that some of the rip anecdotes might have been avoided by maybe placing 2 of the 3" thickness Twins side-by-side when used on a larger bed, rather than, say, placing a ~1-2" (thin) queen or king on a bed that is subjected to the opposing torques of 2 people tossing and turning. In the latter circumstance, probably most/all foams would eventually start to pull apart near the middle.

I'm nearly 70yo now & have had A LOT of mattress pads trying to make a comfortable bed. I have terrible nerve pain so pressure hurts. Unfortunately this 3" purple 5-zone topper is of no help. Many years ago when Memory Foam came out I was able to purchase them in "poundage". The less dense gave no support, the most dense was like laying on the floor. There was a medium density that gave support without being 'hard'. This is not that one. I am 5'9", 160# & when I lay on this I sink right thru. It's like laying on a sheet of cardboard that sinks into a crater where my torso lays on it. I'm writing this as I noticed the reviews are a few years old & that concerned me when I bought it as formulas change-always to profit the maker so I was worried the good reviews being so old might not actually reflect the product this Summer of 2022. I wish I hadn't spent my money on it...you can't roll one of these back up & return. Besides, there was no improper advertising, I got what I got. By the way, the purple smells like soap. I don't like it & find it strong but that's a personal taste issue. If you are of lighter weight, this would probably work fine for you (my '20's at 120# maybe), but the heavier you are, the less likely this will help you.

I have to say, I absolutely love this topper and it has truly extended the life of a mattress I’ve had for quite some time (which needs to be replaced soon)! After an expensive move to a new apartment, the last thing I had extra money for was to purchase a new mattress (especially since J technically already had one)! After researching and shopping/considering what felt like a million toppers, I landed on this one based on its thickness (I’d read anything less than two inches would be useless for a side sleeper) and the various zones. The bonus would be the lavender scent which I’d hoped wouldn’t be overpowering (it wasn’t). This review is being written after about ten to eleven months of continuous/daily use. I always use a mattress protector/mattress pad under my fitted sheet. The only negative thing I can really say is really just based on sustainability. I’ve included photos of the topper which is beginning to crack in the center (despite routine rotating). I do not feel as though it’s performance is affected thus far, but it has made me realize this is not going to last forever. It has simply extended the life of an aging mattress and bought me some much needed time before pulling the trigger on purchasing a new one. Depending on the type I end up with, I’d seriously consider purchasing a new topper (this one, specifically) to go with it. (And I definitely will be purchasing one down the road if and when I find myself with another aging mattress!) The lavender scent faded after about a month, which isn’t the end of the world and I’ve noticed some discoloring on the far edges of the topper despite having a mattress pad/mattress protector in place at all times. My complaints are merely a result of wear and tear, not flaws in design! I highly recommend this and am so glad I did my research and chose this one!!!
