    • A good value as a cheaper option
The design of this unit is rather similar to the Max XR at at very significant cost savings. It also has a connections for a dust collection option, which is lacking on the base OEM models. In operation, I found it so be similar to my Max XR in the basic operation and features. The controls aren't as smooth but they do have the same level of precision. The only real let-down is the fence, the attachment point isn't nearly as sturdy as the pass-through rod design. The two-fasteners design means that you will be tightening both of them numerous times during usage. Tools vibrate and vibration loosens fasteners - it's just fact. For a quick job - over a short length, sure, it works fine. On a longer job - it's _very_ frustrating. Overall, this unit feels less sturdy but certainly does the job. For infrequent usage requirements, I would say this is an excellent choice. However, if you need a hand-planer fairly often, I would recommend against - the weak fence settings is just a deal breaker for extended use. ... show more

This thing feels heavy and pretty well made. The moulded plastic does not have the feel and look of top end, but it’s solid. It winds up and sounds very high RPM. The motor sounds pretty clean, not like one of those cheap Harbor Freight jobbies. The battery fit well and correctly. Is this a Dewalt, no, but it’s a solid value especially for those that tend to do small jobs. I would not use this for professional woodworking.
