Fun, imaginative play set.
Edition: MAIN
I bought this for my visiting Grandnieces, ages 2,4 and 6. It is a beautifully made, nicely packed set. The iced cream and toppings, the cup and cone options, the menu, to the play money and the scoop, tongs and wooden spoon, are all beautifully displayed in a windowed ice cream counter. I love that most of the set is made of wood. Each item has its designated place, making clean up fun for even the youngest child. I worried that this would be a one afternoon wonder, but the toy was constantly played with all week and every child and adult visitor was solemnly presented with the menu and asked for their ice cream order. I love Melissa and Doug. Another simple, imaginative toy from their impressive collection! ... show more

Gets a lot of use
Edition: MAIN
This one gets played with a lot! I do end up finding scoops of ice cream all over the house, too... but it's worth it. My kids love this toy. Well-constructed, thoughtful, fun.

Two year old is obsessed!

Our two year old began pretending some other toys were ice cream so this seemed like a good purchase. Well it's a hit! She can't get enough of stacking the ice cream scoops and toppings and making cones for herself and others. I appreciate that the 8 ice cream scoops and 2 cones are wood, and the 6 toppings are an adorable variety. It even comes with play money and a menu, a wooden spoon, cup (alternative to cone) ice cream scooper, and tongs. The particle board wooden case is convenient for storing and organizing the pieces. I think she'll have fun growing with this set as she continues to explore pretend play. ... show more

I've bought others, let me convince you

I'm here to convince you this is THE ice cream set after I bought 3 different brand and returned the other 2. I purchased this at full price (last minute birthday present because I didn't like the other 2 I bought before) and am not affiliated/sponsored by anyone (**cries in real money**). I am a pediatric speech language pathologist and a lover of M&D toys so I intend this to be a thorough review. I bought this for my one year old's birthday. As mentioned before, I bought two other sets (one store brand from a very popular red store) and the other on Amazon, both were $25-35. I purchased this M&D ice cream set for $50 after taxes. Even though this set was double the price, it was completely worth it. Pros: -Materials: Ice cream scoops and cones are wood, toppings are bendable plastic. There is a wood taster spoon, a plastic bowl, and a scoop with a wood handle and plastic scooper. The two other brand sets I bought were all plastic. -Quality: This is the main toy that kids play with at our local library that we've been visiting for 3 years, and it has held up. I feel like that's the biggest testament to quality. (**READ THIS**)Set up- Every ice scream scoop, utensil, and topping has a place in the container. I think this is a reason the one at our library has survived so long. Everything having a place is a big deal in our house to prolong play. The other brand sets I bought did not have enough space for everything which increased clutter and reduced the possibilities of play. It doesn't matter if other sets come with more pieces if the pieces are just going to get lost and not part of functional play. -made for play- The set up mimics an ice cream counter which invites interactive play. My toddler plays with 6+ year olds with this by one kid "ordering" through the plastic front, and the other "serving" on the ice cream side. There is also a menu included that can be used to order from by checking boxes or pointing. Every ice cream flavor and topping is visible through the plastic and in a logical placement. Again, this was also a big loser from the other brands- one had shelves only visible to the server side. This is GREAT to promote social skills, pretend play, and language!!! -stackable: the ice cream scoops can stack on top of each other to make a tall cone/cup. This greatly expands the possibilities of play and of course was the first thing my kids did with it. One set of another brand I bought did not allow for stacking. -Speech, language and social development- this is an open ended toy that is great for young kiddos to learn through play. My 2 y/o toddler picked up the words single, double, and triple in one play setting. My baby learned to pretend lick the cone, ask for more, etc. I am a firm believer that M&D carefully craft their products to promote skills through play. Yes, im kicking myself for not buying this one first. -fine motor skills- great to promote fine motor skills. Cons I have no cons, I fully believe this is the perfect ice cream set. Age group: 1+. My one year old is interested in this and enjoys putting the scoops in the spots/cones. My 2 y/o will spend an hour playing with this making different scoops for everyone. At the library, older kids (I would guess up to 10 y/o) also play with this toy. I imagine it will be a staple in our hosue for a long time. ... show more

Fun and Great Quality!
Edition: MAIN
We love Melissa & Doug toys! They’re always well-made and great quality. I first saw this ice cream stand at my daughter’s speech therapy session and decided to get one for her. She absolutely loves it, and so do the other kids who play with it. They have so much fun doing pretend play and taking turns running their own little ice cream stand. I’ve also bought Melissa & Doug toys as gifts for my friends’ children because they’re always a hit! ... show more

I had heard that this was a great toy so I bought it for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She LOVES it. She can sit and play for a long period of time...takes "orders" from her brothers, gives and takes the money, it's adorable. Great purchase.

The Best Gift That Keeps on Giving!

Review Image by Quinn
This is our go-to first birthday gift, and we've bought it at least 10 times for different friends and family. It's incredibly well made and holds up to years of play. Even my 6-year-old still pulls it out regularly for imaginative play with siblings and friends. Melissa & Doug always makes quality toys, and this ice cream counter is one of the best. If you're looking for a gift that's fun, durable, and loved for years, this is an easy choice! ... show more
