cute little musical set!! we have a nephew that is a toddler. His family as well as ours is very musical so naturally we want to make sure he has all the fun instruments within reach whenever he gets the urge to play. It seems we weren't the only ones that thought he needed music in his life as his parents got him a drum set too. lol. It's going to be a very noisy house there very soon! As with pretty much all Melissa and Doug items we've gotten for our toddler, these are sturdy, educational, allow for him to explore and create on his own. There are also enough goodies in the package for us all to play together! It has been quite fun! Cons: The kazoo didn't work at all in our box and the xylophone doesn't really make much sound since it's wooden being hit with a squared mallet. I was looking for a kazoo for my almost-3 yr old when i came across this set. Was a little surprised at the negative reviews, but trusted Melissa & Doug to provide a quality product. The set was a hit with both the girls (3 and 1) - the little one figured out the maracas right away and loved the jingly shaker. The 3 yr old figured out the kazoo in one go, and liked the xylophone and the harmonica. Your musical children will love this set. ... show more

I play the instruments to my baby since she was 6 weeks old. She LOVES the xylophone as I play in tune to her audio music. She will be using it when she is older. Only thing is the bazooka/flute? It is useless, splintery and has a funny smell. Everything else is great.

9 month old immediately picked up the mallet and began banging on the wooden xylophone. We do not leave her alone with the bells, not yet, if she fell on those, it would not be a pretty sight. I realize she is a little young for all these instruments, but she will grow into them. In the meantime, the colorful xylophone is a household sound. Keep in mind, these are WOOD, they do not make the tinny "ting" sound of metal or plastic. These "thud". Its much more pleasant to the ears. :) ... show more

I was really looking forward to this instrument set, especially since I previously purchased another musical set from Melissa & Doug that was fantastic. Unfortunately, this one was very disappointing. When I opened the box, there was a strong smell that was off-putting. The quality of the instruments, particularly the kazoo, was poor. The painting on the instruments is rough and not smooth at all, which is surprising given the usual high standards of Melissa & Doug products. To make matters worse, there were several dents on the surface of the instruments that is unacceptable for a brand-new set. Given these issues, I would not recommend this musical set. I normally like Melissa & Doug products, but I was disappointed with the quality on this one. The kazoo in our kit didn’t work at all. The xylophone keys are wood, and it doesn’t make much noise. I think we will be returning for another product.

I was torn between this set and the others. I decided this one because our daughter asked for a xylophone. When I opened it I was surprised at the size and weight. These are VERY well made, not cheap or thin. Great quality as expected, but much better than I imagined. She has played them daily since Christmas and even plays 2-3 at a time. She's pretty awesome on the harmonica too:) ... show more
