  • Great portrait lens!
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
Given the price of native Nikon glass, I’ve purchased a few third-party lenses to bolster my collection of Z-mount lenses. I am a hobbyist photographer and want to keep my equipment quality high, but prices low. This Meike is an excellent quality portrait lens and I recently used it for family holiday portraits. The results were amazing! Build Quality: The build quality is excellent! This thing is solid, but on the heavy side. That’s to be expected given the 1.4 aperture. I’ve included a photo of this Meike lens next to my Nikon F-mount 85mm f/1.8 to give a size comparison. The Meike f/1.4 is about 1.5x the size of the Nikon f/1.8. The lens looks modern and has some cool red accents. Autofocus: The only minor complaint I have is the autofocus can be a bit slow at times. Usually, it’s quick and snappy, but sometimes it hunts. It works great on both of my mirrorless cameras (Nikon Z6ii and Z30). It integrates seamlessly with Nikon’s system and operates almost as well It’s easy to switch to manual focus with the switch on the side. Bokeh: The aperture ring is a really cool feature! You change the f-stop on the lens rather than on the camera. This is great for quickly changing as needed. I did this as I took portraits—as the group got bigger, I went to a higher aperture. Bokeh is superb! The bokeh is very creamy and helps highlight the subject. This lens helps me isolate the person/group to effectively eliminate any distractions in the background. If you're looking for a great alternative to the Nikon NIKKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8, get this! It is over $200 less expensive, you get a lower aperture for a comparable lens, and it shoots excellent photos. The quality is amazing and the price of this Meike 85mm f/1.4 is right! ... show more

  • Love this lens
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
Perfect portrait lens for my new Nikon Z 5. Lovely bokeh, nice crisp edges throughout the image. I have yet to find fault with this lens, especially since I was expecting issues due to the reviews and the price. As a 51 year working photographer, I can appreciate this gem of a lens, an unexpected find. I would put it up against any Voightlander lens, and most of the Canadian-built Leica lenses. ... show more

  • Sharp lens with character
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
The lens is fairly sharp. Build quality is good and lens isn’t too big or heavy compared to using the sigma 1.4 adapted. AF is quiet and just about silent. The lens flares in backlit shots. Some may like this for an effect or character so not the worst thing. I liked this for my last wedding shoot. AF is not the fastest but works well to get the eye in portraits. ... show more

  • Nice lens for the money
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
I like this lens. Its not the fastest autofocus lens but its wide aperture gives it a great look for portrait photography for the price. Not the best for video stuff as the autofocus motor is pretty loud and quite slow. The lens appears to be uniform and no distortion is noticeable aside from some fringing along the corners. All in all, I'd say this is a pretty decent lens for portrait or still life photography. It would be hard to find a lens that gives you the f1.4 look at this price, even used stuff is significantly more expensive. ... show more

  • Plastic built but still feels great

  • Just spend more and go for Nikon 1.8s
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
Nice looking lens and will work sluggishly but firmware update is stressful and a waste of time. Could not get it to update and the directions are horrible on the site plus honestly I don't' even know what is the current firmware update as they DO NOT make it clear on their site. The focus is slow and just does not work as good as the Z lens plus to many missed shots and at 1.4 you need the focus to work. For an armature that just wants to walk around and take pics I think this one is ok but if you can just put in a couple extra hundred go up the 1.8s z lens you will be happier in the long run. ... show more

  • A fantastic lens for the lens
Size: 85mm f1.4 FF-Z
The media could not be loaded. You need to take the price into consideration when evaluating this lens. Just look for other lenses with autofocus at f/1.4 and you will see what I am talking about. This price for this lens is crazy low for what you are getting. Let's start with autofocus. Yes, it's a bit slow when compared to native lenses. However I found it to lock on to subject quite accurately even if it takes a bit to get there. I mean focus doesn't bounce back and forth or anything. It's just a bit slower than a native lens. In my opinion, this isn't super important for what most folks will likely be using this lens for which is portraits and video. At least for me, shooting portraits is more of a slower shoot. So I didn't find the autofocus on this lens slowing me down for the shoot in the least. When I am shooting video, I do need super fast autofocus. I want a more slow and methodical focus change and this lens does that just fine. At f/1.4 the corners are quite soft as you would expect with any f/1.4 lens. Center is sharp enough for my needs. f/1.4 portraits looks amazing. The bokeh on this lens is beautiful, super creamy without any strange artifacts. I would said the bokeh (this is the blurry background) is one of the high points for this lens which for a super fast lens like this is what is most important for me. In my opinion this is probably the best AND most cost effective f/1.4 autofocus lenses on the market right now. I would not hesitate at all in recommending this lens for folks shooting portraits or video. The bokeh on this lens is an attention grabber! ... show more
