HUGE help for my elderly dad getting on and off the toilet. At 95 yrs old, my dad has a bad hip on one side and a bum knee on the other which greatly reduces his mobility. This design has simplicity in mind - very easy to install and stable enough to support his weight. While there is some wiggle and slop installed, when loaded that goes away and provides a good load path and leverage needed to greatly help both getting on and off the pot :-) Highly recommend particularly for those with a mobility related disability.

1. Based on a toilet whose top of seat is 16 inches from the floor, the top of the support handle is 12 inches from the seat (pic). I’m 5’ 11” tall with a 32” inseam and my arms are bent 90 degrees at the elbow when resting on the handles. 2. The unit is sturdy. If position handles to a 90 deg angle with main bracket, you can rotate each arm individually outward 2.5 inches (pic). However, there are 2 knurled knobs (pic) where the handles attach to the bracket. Tighten these knobs by rotating counter clockwise and it adds enough resistant so that the handles don’t move outward or inward without intent. 3. It’s been mentioned in other reviews of being able to raise the handles off the floor. This is in the design so as to be able to lengthen the length of the front legs if necessary. Thoroughly tightening the black plastic knobs, on the main bracket (pic) will reduce how high you can intentionally lift the legs off the floor. 4. It’s irrelevant that you can lift the handles or intentionally sweep them outward or inward. Why? Because when using you’re not lifting, you’re pushing down and when doing so, the handles don’t budge! So don’t worry about it suddenly shifting while lowering yourself on, or off, the toilet seat. It’s not an issue. 5. The front legs can be made up to 4 inches longer in 1 inch increments. This may be necessary if add a 5 inch rise seat, however, adding a 3.5 inch rise seat would probably make this unit work perfectly as that would decrease the distance from the seat to top of handle to 8.5 inches. The only negative I have about this product is there is no way to lower the handle. With the handle 12 inches above the seat it is awkward for me, for someone shorter than I it will be worse. Note if the height from the floor to your toilet seat differs from 16 inches the handle height will decrease (taller toilets) or increase (shorter toilets). We like that you can install it but then remove the arms when not needed. It seems sturdy and well built.

I ordered one of these safety rails for my wife who just had knee replacement surgery, and it was exactly what we needed. It allows her to get up and down without much effort at all, surprising sturdy if you don't press outward on the arms too much. It's of course a bit wobbly, but with a moment or two of figuring out how to push yourself up it is quite sturdy indeed and is a life-saver. Assembly was super simple, and the bracket attaches very securely to the rear of the toilet seat in the same holes for the lid - - piece of cake. I like the ability to fully adjust the height of the arms and also of their distance apart. This unit is not designed for Olympic routines, and you can buy much more expensive units that are a bit sturdier, but if you will just think and figure out the best way to push yourself up this unit will do just fine. A quality and inexpensive solution to anyone who has trouble getting around or standing up. Highly recommended!!

I am headed for full knee replacement and have terrible range of motion in my left knee. This contraption is so helpful plus another add-on to building my upper-body strength. Super easy assembly. However the legs are just a tad wobbly which is to be expected. Once you apply your weight to the handles that is solved.

Works really well to help get off the toilet! But if your family member uses it to help sit down, it’s sketchy. The arms don’t stay in one place very well when used that way. Seems really cheaply made.
