I am very surprised at how much better the sound is from this mod. I mean MUCH better. It provides a good level and balanced tones and the range is pretty impressive. It's like a micro shotgun. I only purchased this to hook up a wireless microphone for when I fish. It has been dropped a ton of times and still works like day 1. (The built in mic sounds worse than the actual GoPro mic in my opinion)

Let's cut to the chase, you bought this item because unfortunately there are no other aftermarket options that allow the use of an external mic and adding some cold shoe mounts. Being that this is GoPro proprietary accessary, they overpriced this item by about 25$ to much. That being said, it works and I can use my Rode mic and LED light, but here is the one gripe I have with this Mod. If using the Mic on the media mod, you can only decide to use either the front facing mic or the rear facing mic, one at a time, they cannot be used at the same time. So if your vlogging and using the front mic, you have to stop the video, choose the rear mic, and start recording again if your going to flip the camera and want to capture the audio behind the camera; that was rather weird to me. Wonder if with an update they can allow us to change from front mic to rear mic while still recording and not having to break the flow of things. This attachment to my GoPro was a game changer when installed on my HERO 10. I use this while riding on my motorcycle and am able to change the direction of the microphone which helps a great deal to reduce wind noise. It also comes with a "pop filter" to even out the sound. This is very easy to install as you just take off the side cover and slide the GoPro into the attachment. Then go in to your setting and change the mic settings to Front/Rear. ... show more

This is an official GoPro product and it is extremely overpriced for what it is. However, there is no other way around it since GoPro tries to restrict 3rd party products and inflates the price on their accessories (much like Apple). Works great with the GoPro Hero 11 to charge/transfer data with the media mod installed and to record external audio with the audio jack input. But I will not be buying any more GoPro's until they make reasonably priced accessories or open their products to the 3rd party market. ... show more
