After a lot of looking, I ordered one of these chairs to see if I found it acceptable. Wanting to stain it myself, I ordered the unfinished one. It had been daunting to read reviews of receiving other chairs with pieces broken, missing, or with cracks and scars. I was happily surprised when I opened the box and examined each piece. They were all beautiful, relatively smooth, with no knots or cracks at all. On close examination I saw that a couple of more minor pieces were made of two pieces of wood joined together, but the joining was almost completely invisible. So far, I have further sanded and put one coat of stain on all the pieces. Today the second coat of stain goes on. Since I haven't put the chair together yet I can't speak to its sturdiness or comfort, but I am so happy at this point that I ordered another chair. I was impressed that the day after I received the chair I got an email from the company urging me to contact them if I found anything not to my satisfaction. I don't write many reviews, but I really recommend this chair and this company which seems to have good customer service. When I finish putting them together I expect to have them for years of enjoyment at a price I feel great about. ... show more

When I put this chair together, I didn't see any markings on the legs to indicate which one went on the left and which one went on the right, so I reversed them. This made it impossible to sit on because it wouldn't stay upright. It would only fold up. You couldn't sit on it. If you have that problem, just switch the legs around and it will work fine. ... show more

The chair was easy enough to assemble and I likes that the wood was lightweight. I weigh less than 250, but after maybe 6 weeks, the chair collapsed from under me. Worse yet, the one break seemed to set off a chain reaction and by the end of the day I had firewood. It wasn't until I was assembling the replacement (from Home Depot) that I realized how substandard the materials are. I'd turn back if I were you. ... show more

We just built two of these Adirondack chairs, nearly identical in every way by the size, cut, and shape of the pieces, one by the SoliWood store and this one by Mederla store. So I am comparing them. i'm sure its the same manufacturer as the instruction manual is nearly identical as well. Also we have two much more solid and larger Adirondack chairs that are much better built than these. However, for the two chairs just assembled, this natural wood one, was noticeably better. The wood on the gray "SoliWood" chair was very poorly pre-drilled, and one of the pieces split when screwing together. I believe I will be able to repair once I pick up some wood glue. But this natural wood chair by Mederla, was better with the alignment and spacing of the pre-drilled holes. A couple, especially on the chair back, needed to be re-drilled and adjusted, but 90% + was ok. Also the gray flat paint looked very poor quality on the other one, so I much prefer to stain or paint our own, though it may be a good bit more work. The end result was a medium to smaller sized chair, that is great for kids or slim adults, but the back isn't high enough for a taller adult or wide enough for a wider person. Also the wood is a little on the medium/lighter-weight level. If you are larger or just want a sturdier piece of furniture, note that. If your chair will get light and careful use, I think this is pretty decent. The instructions were very clearly laid out and easy to follow. Just be attentive to the sound of the wood as you are tightening the screws, and be quick to stop if it sounds like it is splitting, back out and re-drill the holes. ... show more

See all those tiny wooden slats? You have to screw every single one of them together. It is very tedious. Fortunately in the instructions are pretty thorough and they're very clear. However it probably will take a decent amount of time and you absolutely will want to have a drill. I usually appreciate when all the parts are labeled but unfortunately this one is stamped right into the wood and some of the labels are face out when you get the chair assembled. As you can see in the photo you can clearly see the C1 stamp which is a bit unsightly. Also the chair itself feels just a teeny bit less sturdy than I would prefer. For the price I'm not really complaining but it's just worth noting. Something else worth noting is that the instructions recommend that you seal or stain since this is unfinished wood. ... show more
