Aggravated by a back issue and reading other reviews I had high hopes for the McDavid 493 Back Support belt. First off, out of the package seems like a decent product, and overall, I believe it is. It is not quite sufficient, and could use tweaks. It should also be carefully decided upon depending on the scope and location of your back problem. 1st The belt sizing is nowhere near correct I wear a 36 waist pant, with a bit of a dunlop gut, and the regular is a struggle to use. Sized the way it is, you cannot use the power bands or whatever the supplementary adjusters are called in all but the most extended position, unless you want it to serve as a velcro corset. FYI, the sections of velcro over the belly button gave me a ridiculous rash from the poor breathability of that area of constructiion. 2nd The tapered velcro front closure is awkward and irritating. If you do not pull the widest part of the taper past the overlap far enough the velcro overhangs the supports face. You will have raw rubbed areas on your skin from the velcro in short time. 3rd The belt is support area and ribs are not tall enough to reach from lower lumbar to mid back height on me, and I am 5'10.5". If you are taller, I seriously doubt you would get any mid back support from this unless you wore it on your abs/rib cage transition. 4th - it slips down, especially if you are active and using it. Darned thing kept riding down while catching and throwing while coaching with my sons little league team, making me constatly pull my shorts or sweats back up. Sitting on a sofa or in the car for a while, yes, it provided additional support, especially in poorly designed seats without adequate lumbar support. But, I still feel it needs to have a taller support section. So, If they redeigned the main velco closure to be unable to have overlap, made the support region taller, and found a way for it to be practical while still be active, and of course had a realistic sizing guidance, I would give it higher marks. For now, it is a decent middle of the road product.

This back support was for my husband and I know from experience that it works wonders for any outside or inside work that involves lifting and bending. My husband’s back was bothering him when he shoveled snow but after receiving this back support my husband could get the whole job done with no back pain. I use mine for when I am gardening. They are a wonderful aid for work you want to do.

I like it so much! I just received my back support and I've been using it for 3 days now...I see a major difference in my back. I received my package before the expected delivery..It was delivered so fast, it came in 3 days! -Even as standard shipping...which was great! It gives great support. my waist size is a 31" and I got the Regular size..Fits perfectly! The only thing is if you are constantly bending over it tends to rise up a bit on your waist. It definitely must be worn with a shirt underneath it because the Velcro can be a little scratchy. You are only recommended to wear it for only 2-3 hours at a time on the box..because it constricts- so give your back a break between uses. Other than that it's a great moderate support for your back.

I have bought three other back support braces for use at work and on my motorcycle. This is a really good light duty support brace. It has mesh in the sides which help to keep you cool. The velcro lasts a long time. The velcro on the staps do not overhang the edges and hook onto your clothing. This was a fatal flaw on a very popular name brand back support that saw the garbage can way before it wore out. The adjustment straps work easily and well for a wide range of fit options. You can make it snug or loose quickly. It is thin, not bulky, and works well under my custom motorcycling pants. Again, being partly mesh is a big plus. It works great for keeping my back straight while riding. Less fatigue and reduced back strain. Not the cheapest light duty support but worth the price.

My doctor recommended this brand. I don't wear it all the time (or even all day) -- just when I feel like my back is on the verge of going out. I wore it for a while until I was tired of wearing it, and I felt like I had more stability even when I wasn't wearing it to keep my back from going out so soon. It's a little tight on me, but according to the measurements, I was right on the borderline and had been losing weight, so I think it's still true to size.

I had a fusion surgery in my lumbar spine because of an herniated disc that is why I have been searching for a good back support, that would really work, for a while now. I have bought those cheap ones, hoping they could hold up. Sad to say, all of them were easily worn out and loosen up. I was starting to exercise and move around. I needed a back support that would help tighten my abdomen and back to avoid pain in moving. The Mc David Back Stabilizer is the right product that can hold my back. I feel secured in moving as it help hold my core, with the additional straps that adds back support. It looks durable that can last long.
