Features

  • USES 48V PHANTOM POWER: Professional dynamic microphone preamplifier that uses 48V phantom power to add 25dB of clean gain to dynamic and ribbon microphones while dropping the noise floor to an astonishing -70dB. (Note: phantom power is required and must be supplied by your audio interface or an external 48v power supply. The MB-1 does not supply phantom power).
  • MIC PREAMP FOR STUDIO AND BROADCAST RECORDING: Boost the signal of quiet instrument sources like vocals, percussion or acoustic instruments, while maintaining the natural sound of your microphone. (DOES NOT WORK WITH CONDENSER MICROPHONES)
  • LIVE SOUND AT ITS BEST: The MB-1 preamp is durable enough for the stage, and quiet enough for the studio. For live sound, you can reduce line noise on long cable runs and improve the gain before feedback ratio for public speakers or singers.
  • PROFESSIONAL SOUND CLARITY: with -70dB noise rating you'll be able to cut through the mix without adding feedback or unwanted hiss and hum.
  • DESIGNED FOR OUTSTANDING RESULTS: Codas microphone booster is perfect for podcasts, live streaming, radio broadcasts, live sound, and studio recording. You need great tools to get great results!

  • Best value in-line preamp
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
This preamp is phenomenal. Don't bother with a cloudlifter, the MB-1 is just as effective and has no downsides. At the $25 that I paid, I felt like I had committed robbery. This product would have been a good deal at $60 - $80. The construction is extremely solid and the performance is fantastic matched with my sm58 and Focusrite 2i2. ... show more

  • Solid electronics in a solid box
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
(I bought both the MB-1 and the MB-Stealth. The core of this review will be the same for both) I was looking to make an SM-48S hotter. I tripped over this, and - went for it. This box is durable enough for stage use. It's inline, you'll need another XLR cord. This *DOES* use phantom power, so if your mixer/preamp doesn't provide that, you'll have an issue. When unpowered, it's a straight pass-through. *for me* this is prefect. It's on a mic used for handpan and gong. I don't need shimmering high ends, I *do* need the bottom end not rolled off. Very nice box, I figure that the electronics are the same in the MB-Stealth, I didn't open this, as I'm returning it. I only need one, and I'll be keeping the -Stealth. Highly recommended. It does what it sets out to, and at this price point, you probably need more than one, just to keep around. :) ... show more

  • Yes! get this!
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
I got mine on sale but I was still going to get at full price so it was a win! It sounds amazing. I paired it up with a basic preamp and it sounds professional. I get complements all the time on mic quality.

  • Good Value - Rugged - Could Be Smaller
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
The MB-1 does a great job of boosting the output of my Sennheiser MD-441 and E935 microphones for use with my Bose S1 portable PA system. Previously the output of the MD-441 was so low that I had to run the gain on the amp up to 100% and the sound was muddy; now I am running at 40% and the clarity is superb. There is no added signal noise that I can detect when using the preamp. The MB-1 is ruggedly built, housed in a black anodized aluminum case. Now for the critique: The MB-1 could be much smaller than it is. I can't fit it sideways into the storage compartment in my guitar case, given it's 5.5 inch (14 cm) length. This is not a deal breaker, but I like not having to lug extra carrying cases for my gear and space is at a premium. As can be seen in the photo, I am having to use an added external phantom power supply to supply power to the MB-1, in this case an Xvive P1. Yes, I could use their smaller inline version, but it would be somewhat awkward with a long mic like the 441. My question: Why doesn't anybody make a portable microphone preamp that is self-contained with an internal rechargeable battery AND a volume control? Better yet, how about making one that can be used standalone for either condenser (phantom power) or dynamic microphones (FET preamp) and is small enough to easily tuck into the storage compartment of a guitar case? That way, regardless of the microphone type in my kit, it would be good to go. Also, it would be nice if there was an easy way to secure the MB-1 to a microphone stand so that I could do a quick parking lot or offstage setup and just walk up with my gear ready to go. I also would appreciate a gain control on the preamp unit itself so that if I need to tweak things during a performance it would be right there on the mic stand. Many of the venues that I play don't have a sound tech and having to move over to the PA head to adjust things is bothersome. Overall, the MB-1 is good for what it is, a low noise, phantom powered microphone preamp, but it is a bit large and more friendly for stationary or pedal board mounted use. ... show more

  • A great product, especially for the price
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
I got this for a few microphones I use (mainly Shure SM57 and SM7B). I chose to try it instead of spending the extra money on some other similar items. Since I haven't Tested the others, I can't compare, but I can say that this is a solid product. I don't experience any noise issues, and it provides plenty of clean gain. I tested it without any other hardware components except the preamp on my interface, and it works well. ... show more

It's excellent and works just as I wanted, that's all. Before buying, make sure that the price is good at a time when prices are low Thank you

  • Make no mistake, this does NOT compare to a cloud lifter. I directly compared the two...
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
The product is OK. Nothing special. NOT worth $79. I don't wish to bash anyone's product but this is a budget device at best and I feel confident saying so. Maybe if you want some weird coloration of your mic... It does boost the sound though. There is no doubt about that. Sonically, I was better off cranking the gain on my mixer. Even my 14 yr old sitting next me readily offered his opinion as such. Case closed in my mind. ... show more

  • Better than expected
Size: Single-Channel (MB-1)
This item fits my budget perfectly. To my surprise it did not disappoint me once of all this usage (daily user). Could not see myself dishing out for a fethead or cloudlifters if I didn't have to. Purchased this amongst other items to improve my stream and conference calls. I have this connected to my Rode Procaster into the Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Would I repurchase or recommend? For the price... Most definitely. But I would highly doubt a replacement is needed for a very long time of how well built it is (not cheap material). ... show more
