i never write reviews but i just HAD to say that ive been struggling with eyeliner for so long but this one is absolutely perfect. glides amazingly, so easy to apply (and thats saying something, because i have a strong fear of going near my eyes in case i poke it lol) but it also lasts the entire day barely even smudging. just so so good. ... show more

I'm new to makeup, so I'm not skilled at all yet, but I do really like this product! It goes in fairly easily (in my opinion), though the brush it came with is terrible and I don't currently have a replacement that does a good job. CONS - It ends up a little patchy/streaky when I apply it. It may just be the fact that I don't have a proper brush or that I'm not putting it on quite right. - It's darker than I had anticipated, a brown-black as opposed to the lighter, subtler brown I was expecting. - Hard to take off due to one of the pros listed below. PROS - Easy to apply. - Literally lasts all day, even on greasy hooded eyes like mine (I barely have any eyelid showing and sometimes this stuff does end up slightly under the fold towards the thicker end; it still doesn't transfer) - Waterproof; even my makeup remover has a hard time getting this stuff to disappear. ... show more

This gel eyeliner is smooth but the color is not rich enough. You need to use quite a bit of product to get an intense line, which is a hassle. The brown color is a bit too red for me.

I chose this product because I'm always on the lookout for a simple, matte brown eyeliner with some real staying power. I purchased this in the brown color to give my eyes more natural looking tight-lined definition with a bit of eyeliner under the eyes for the summer. I tend to prefer gels since I have very oily skin, and only gel liners and waterproof liquid liners are the only types that stay on all day into night without fading, running, or smudging. I love gels particularly since you can create thin, defined lines for a polished look or thick smudgy lines for a more smokey look. My go-tos for gel liners have always been Bobbi Brown or Stila's smudge pots, but I had tried a cheap gel liner from E.L.F. that gave the other 2 more expensive brands a pretty good run for the money. With Maybelline being even cheaper, boasting ~24 hour~ wear, AND being readily available at my local drug stores, I had hoped this gel liner would become my holy grail. However, it was not meant to be. Even with my favorite eye primer on, and applied with the best lining brush I own, this gel doesn't last more than a few hours before it smudges and fades into nothingness. I'd understand if I were swimming or hiking or something, but this is while I'm computing in an air-conditioned office. Frankly, smudging plain eyeshadow with a bit of primer has lasted even longer on my eyes than this stuff does. It looks beautiful when first applied. The color is a deep coffee brown, no shimmers, and is true from pot to skin. It's just a shame it doesn't last even 6 hours on me, let alone a full 24. I generally use the darkest black eyeliner I can find but wanted to soften my look now and then so I bought this liner in charcoal. I have used gel/cream liners before and liked them. Maybelline's was inexpensive and even came with a brush so I gave it a shot not expecting it to come close to Smashbox's wonderful gel liner. But it is nearly as good! The pot is pretty large and even the included brush is good. I have my own brush but I have used the Maybelline one and both do a great job at distributing the liner. This eyeliner is thick and pigmented. It smoothes on my lids without tugging and once it dries, doesn't budge all day. The charcoal is a "light black" as opposed to a washed out gray color which I like. I find it easy to apply either in a thin of thick line and much less messy than liquid liner. It washes off with my facial cleanser or eye makeup remover and doesn't irritate my eyes at all. This one is definitely a good value and comparable to high end gel liners. ... show more
