  • Universal replacement update
Model: TOY507
This an update to my review. My truck continued to run great with the new carb, however my check engine light came on shortly after installing. The diagnostic code states the engine is running lean which really means the mixture is too rich and the system cannot compensate. This makes sense as a CA carburetor runs leanner than a non CA carb. I used this page to contact the manufacturer to ask if the carb is CARB certified as I live in CA. I did not receive a reply which, to me,means it probably is not legal for use in CA. Consequently I switched back to the OEM carb. I am waiting to see if the check engine light stays off. This aftermarket carburetor for my 1989 Toyota Pickup is a great deal coming in at less than $100.00. I'll get right to the point and state that the unit is installed and running. My subjective opinion is that the truck runs better with the new carb. The throttle response is better and it accelarates a lot faster however given the old carb has over 200K miles on it, I shouldn't be surprised. The biggest difference between the factory unit and this one is that this one is shiney as it doesn't have the olive-drab factory coating. It also comes equipped with a dash-pot which is only needed for automatic transmission models however it doesn't hurt anything if you leave it installed. This model also has one extra vacuum port that I left capped. I also had to make adjustments for the idle mixture, idle speed, and, high idle speed. The install was no easier or more diffcult than the factory unit but is still time consuming and somewhat challenging as there are at least 12 vacuum lines that need to be attached and Toyota's use of through bolts instead of studs is a little chanllenging as well. As I stated it looks shinny in comparison to the factory unit because it lacks the olive drab coating applied to the factory unit. Even though this is a "plug-n-play" unit, I have the factory shop manual and checked all the settings before installing it to the intake manifold. Once installed you will also need to make fine tuning adjustments for idle mixture, idles speed, and throttle up idle speed. I took a lot of pictures before removing the factory unit but still had to verify several of the vacuum lines were hooked up correctly. ... show more

  • Good replacement. Chuck the plug wires
Model: TOY505
Bolted right up no adjustments necessary except the wiring of the plug was incorrect. Compared it to my original and it works great.

  • Cannon plug wired wrong from manufacturer.
Model: TOY505
WARNING!!!! Decent carb, works right out of the box… HOWEVER, according to a YouTuber, the cannon plug needs to be re-pinned. I installed as is, and truck would not idle… I moved the red wire over one slot (swapped side to side). To be clear 2 pins are vertical and 2 are horizontal. The red wire needs to switch places with the black wire (both horizontal). Trucks runs amazing now. ... show more

  • Works perfectly
Model: TOY505
Carburetor worked perfectly. Of course check wiring just like all other reviews say and of course it needed to be rearranged but once that was done and installed truck started right up. Works awesome and am able to drive truck again after it's been sitting for a couple years. Definitely recommend to anyone. ... show more

  • Poor quality control
Model: TOY505
During install as per the other reviews the plug is pinned wrong as well as the quality control on the fitment of the throttle linkage is less than satisfactory carb was causing a high idle because of something holding the throttle linkage partially open.

  • Carb worked great after fixing incorrect wiring issue
Model: TOY505
I installed this carburetor on my dad’s 85 pickup and after running for a minute or two the engine would start idling rough and begin dying. I tried adjusting the carb but it seemed like it was already close to specs from the factory. After scratching my head and doing some research, I found that these carburetors have an idle valve screwed in on the passenger side. So I figured I’d swap the idle valve from the old carb and that’s when I realized the round 4 pin connector on the new carburetor was pinned incorrectly, causing the idle valve to shut off after a minute. I relocated the pins to the proper positions by using the connector on the old carb as a reference and after that the truck ran smoothly. This might have been a one time defect but I figured I’d mention it here just in case anyone else is having the same issue. ... show more
