  • Good replacement. Chuck the plug wires
Model: TOY505
Bolted right up no adjustments necessary except the wiring of the plug was incorrect. Compared it to my original and it works great.

  • Universal replacement
Model: TOY507
This aftermarket carburetor for my 1989 Toyota Pickup is a great deal coming in at less than $100.00. I'll get right to the point and state that the unit is installed and running. My subjective opinion is that the truck runs better with the new carb. The throttle response is better and it accelarates a lot faster however given the old carb has over 200K miles on it, I shouldn't be surprised. The biggest difference between the factory unit and this one is that this one is shiney as it doesn't have the olive-drab factory coating. It also comes equipped with a dash-pot which is only needed for automatic transmission models however it doesn't hurt anything if you leave it installed. This model also has one extra vacuum port that I left capped. I also had to make adjustments for the idle mixture, idle speed, and, high idle speed. The install was no easier or more diffcult than the factory unit but is still time consuming and somewhat challenging as there are at least 12 vacuum lines that need to be attached and Toyota's use of through bolts instead of studs is a little chanllenging as well. As I stated it looks shinny in comparison to the factory unit because it lacks the olive drab coating applied to the factory unit. Even though this is a "plug-n-play" unit, I have the factory shop manual and checked all the settings before installing it to the intake manifold. Once installed you will also need to make fine tuning adjustments for idle mixture, idles speed, and throttle up idle speed. I took a lot of pictures before removing the factory unit but still had to verify several of the vacuum lines were hooked up correctly. ... show more

  • Wire pin-out is wrong
Model: TOY505
As others have reported, the wires to the choke and the idle cut-off on the carburetor I received were inserted in the electrical connector in the wrong configuration. Trace the wires back on your old carb and compare to make certain it is wired correctly. It is very easy to re-arrange the pins/wires if you need to. Just pry out the back strain relief piece and slide it back on the wires. Then use a pick, tiny screwdriver, or paper clip to release the pins and pull them out from the back of the connector shell. The back strain relief piece is stretchy enough to get the pins though without cutting the wire. Re-assemble with the wires matching your old carburetor. The carburetor seems great after a quick test drive. Better than my truck has run in years without even doing any adjustments yet! ... show more

  • Had to be rebuilt!
Model: TOY505
I purchased this carb for my 86 Toyota 4x4. Have had fits with it for over a year and finaly found a mechanic who can work one one. Come to find out, the carburetor needed to be rebuilt! It ran horribly and the choke was stuck. I could drive it, but it ran bad and often went dead. Went by today to check on my truck and it's running like a top. That's when the mechanic informed me he had to rebuild the carburetor! For me, I guess it's still not a bad purchase. But for someone on a tight budget and for a vehicle they depend on, I'm not sure I could recommend this one. Not out of the box that is. ... show more
