  • Difficult to set up for a noob
I'm new to the world of laser engraving, and I figured this would be a good starting place. So far, things seem to be going well, but getting to this point was a bit tricky. Putting the machine together was straightforward, but it would have been easier with a larger manual and better images. The English translation wasn't very clear, and the photos weren't always of the same model I had, so some things were off. I had to take it apart and put it back together after accidentally putting the sides together the wrong way around, and trying to install the laser itself was very tricky. Once it was all together, everything worked fine, but connecting it to my computer was difficult. I downloaded the recommended software (after some google checking to confirm it was a generally accepted open source laser engraving software and not some form of spyware) and attempted to configure the machine, but it took multiple tries and multiple setting changes before my computer eventually recognized it. I'm not even sure what settings I changed to make it work in the end. I couldn't flash the machine's software the way it wanted me to, but that hasn't seemed to cause any problems. Actually using the software to control the machine is definitely a user skill issue, though I've gotten a bit better at figuring out how to position my material beneath the laser. I wish there was some sort of base plate or a way to project a light so I could watch the laser and identify where to put the material the first time instead of making a trial burn and then lining up my actual project on top of the scrap material. There probably are some strategies, but nothing that comes with the machine that seems to be helpful. However, software struggles are not machine struggles, so I won't hold it against the product. The machine itself did come with several blanks that could be used to test things out, and they all were perfectly adequate. Two bone-shaped dog tags, two pieces of wood, and two pieces of paper. Enough to give you a taste for the hobby, but not enough to actually make something with any confidence. It also included a pair of laser-shielding glasses, but I'm not sure how well they work. The one time I stayed in the room with the laser while wearing them, even though I didn't look at the laser for most of the engraving, I still had achey eyes for hours after. Ever since then, I leave the room when I tell the machine to run. Better safe than sorry, right? Except if I'm not in the room, I can't monitor it in case something goes wrong and starts a fire or something. I did purchase a large ceramic tile to put beneath the laser engraver so it would never accidentally engrave directly on anything flammable, but it's still a concern. All in all, there was some definite clunkiness in getting things going, but once I got it started, I am satisfied with this machine and its capabilities. Four stars because the install could be better and there's no point of reference for where your engraving will start. ... show more

  • screws too long
The laser does not mount properly to the frame with the incorrect (too long) screws supplied. That inhibits heat sinking to the frame and accuracy. There is no actual support contact available other than Amazon offering to process a return. I was able to make it work by buying additional hardware. Note: there is no workpiece support included so be very conscious about what material lies under the substrate being cut, and how it would react with a cutting laser. ... show more

  • Great little tool for the shop.
The Maxaprin 10W Laser Engraving Machine has exceeded my expectations for a DIY laser cutter. With a powerful 1022mW output and a fine 0.06mm laser spot, it delivers precise engraving and cutting on both wood and metal. I’ve been using it for various projects, and the results are consistently impressive. The setup was straightforward, and I appreciated the option for offline usage, which is convenient when I want to work without being tethered to a computer. The speed is remarkable, reaching up to 10,000mm/min, allowing me to complete tasks efficiently without sacrificing quality. One of my favorite features is its versatility; whether I’m cutting intricate designs or engraving detailed images, this machine handles it all with ease. The build quality feels solid, and the silvery finish gives it a sleek look in my workspace. Overall, if you’re looking for a reliable laser engraver that delivers professional-grade results at home, the Maxaprin 10W is an excellent choice. Highly recommended for both beginners and seasoned DIYers! ... show more

  • Terrible instructions and no support
I got this engraver with high hopes...the physical parts seem to be decent quality. But the assembly instructions are terrible! Even after watching the video, it can't be assembled with the provided instructions and hardware. They must have changed out the laser unit, and it went from attaching with 3 screws to needing 4 screws. The 4 screws are included, but they are too long to hold the head securely to the bracket, so the head rattles. The software download instructions are not very clear either, but I managed to figure it out and get the software downloaded. But the software itself is pretty vague. Some guidance would be helpful. As for their "24 hour support", well, that's non-existent. I even went to their own website and emailed support, and it came back "undeliverable". I also sent emails to their sales team and got nothing. All I can say is that unless you want to "Macguyver" this thing together, and you are already familiar with engraving machines, this may not be the machine to start out with. I'm hoping that I can get it figured out. ... show more

  • Pretty good little unit
This is a pretty good unit for the price, it has some things that are not the best about it but honestly all together it's not bad especially for someone like me who is just starting out with wood cutting and engraving, I got this to do ornaments and small stuff for crafts and hobbies, I have no experience whatsoever with these machines, but from what I've used it so far it's pretty good. you do have to get a separate cutting board so you don't burn your table, which would have been nice to read in the instructions. I've not had any issues so far with the software and it's a pretty good size not too big but also not microscopic, I'm happy overall. I wish it was built maybe a little bit more robust and that it had come with a cutting board other than that I'm happy. Cheers ... show more
