  • Very high quality for the price
Color: White Size: Twin/Full
This is a Max and Lily brand bed, but the manufacturer listed on the box shipped is MaxWood Furniture. They apparently have several other marketing companies (M3, Maxtrix, Jackpot) in addition to being marketed by Max and Lily. For those who care about such things, they are a U.S. based company (that touts German and Danish design pedigree), but the parts I received were made in Vietnam. The bed is high quality and assembles reasonably easily. I knocked out the assembly of the beds in about 3 hours, the stairs in about 2 hours, and the trundle in about 30 minutes (with a toddler running around). The paint quality is good, and the material is all solid pine, no engineered wood products. The packaging was very thorough and I didn't find any damage to the components (although I had about 5 paper grocery bags overflowing of plastic sheet and polystyrene packing material to recycle, in addition to the cardboard). I'm very happy with the bed and I'd recommend it as a great value for this type of setup at under 900 dollarydoos. That being said, the following are my minor gripes. • It would be nice to have about two more slats across the bottom of each bed. The spacing is adequate for well distributed loads, but the slats are a bit far apart if someone gets adventurous and jumpy on the bed. There are other models from the same manufacturer (MaxWood) that have the higher slat counts, but these models retail for 2.5-3× the cost, so I'll definitely cut and add my own slats before I'll shell out for the other model. There is a steel rail that runs down the center of the top twin and the full beds (but not the trundle) that helps to limit the stress on the slats. • The headboard of the bed has a broad (~4") cap across the top, but the footboard is narrow (~3/4"). This is an issue because the stairs are mounted at the footboard end and, without a cap, it is easy to come down the stairs onto a hard and narrow corner; it would have been less hazardous with the cap on both ends. • The underside of the stairs doesn't have as much storage space as it could, because the shelves don't extend under the the stair. This storage would be somewhat difficult to access, but more is always better here. • The stiles in the headboards and footboards and the guard rail on the top twin bunk are a little looser than I'd like; they rattle easily when pushed or kicked. I might glue them, but that would make future disassembly for difficult. Finally, here are my observations regarding the assembly issues, for anyone considering this bed, working through the assembly, or who wants to improve the product manual: 180235 Twin/Full Bunk Bed w/ Opening on End Component 20123 is easy to cross-thread Component 20033 is too big for bolt holes and too small for dowel holes; two different plug sizes would be better, or the dowel holes need to be slightly smaller Dowel holes are generally oversized; all dowels in this part were loose-fit in the holes and did not require a mallet. 180250 Staircase Page 18, assembly of parts 7 and 8 to 3×slats 10, figure is missing reference to components 7 and 8; after careful thought, the graphic is unambiguous, but it would be easier to understand with the numerical labels. The label sticker for part 12 covered one of the bolt holes, which made the part a little harder to identify. Page 29 upper panel, assembly of parts 19 and 20 to 2×slats 10, figure illustrates a hole in part 20 near the center of the part; however, the actual part has a hole under one of the slat slots. The lower pane of Page 29 and page 30 correctly illustrates the part, but it would be nice if the upper panel of page 29 didn't create confusion (shown in picture). 175261 Trundle Bed Page 5 illustrates that the slats should be fastened such that the end slats are flush with the edge of the frame. This isn't possible because the holes are positioned over the gap between the support rails along the bed edges and the rails with the casters along the bed ends, i.e., the screws don't bite (shown in picture) To have a surface that can be screwed to, the slats are either under-extended or stick out beyond the edge of the frame. I drilled new holes in these end slats (bored with 11/64", and countersunk with 3/8", also shown in picture), but I think that's a bit beyond what most customers would expect to need to do. There is also a little too much slack in the straps that connect the slats, such that stretching the straps out causes the end slats to stick out about 1/8" on either end of the frame. ... show more

  • Decent bed but some gripes
Color: White Size: Twin/Full
We ordered this for our children and were excited to put it together. It’s possible to get the job done with one person, but I highly recommend two people when having to lift the bunk. There are a few problems though: 1) the stairs are difficult to assemble and the pictures in the instructions are not drawn correctly. Some of the pictures have the orientation of parts incorrect, leading to confusion. I disassembled the stairs twice to make sure I had it built properly. In the end. Several holes didn’t match up between the railing and the staircase… but I mitigated it by tapping new holes and inserting alternate hardware. The second gripe I have is the stench and the airborne chemicals it produced. Plain and simple, whatever paint is on this product made me sick. I had a tickle in my throat about an hour into building and then I had a full blown sinus infection the next day. I’ll be repainting this to see if it mitigates whatever powder that is coming off the material Edit: 8/23…. I hope Max and Lilly reads this. 7 days after building the bed and stairs, I went to the doctor for my sinuses and trouble breathing. I have been diagnosed with pneumonia. Your product really needs to through some QC because if this made me sick building it… what is it doing to our children if we don’t properly sanitize it? I have wiped the entire frame down with water and alcohol to ensure that the dust on the wood is removed ... show more

  • well built
Color: White Size: Twin/Twin
sturdy , just the look we wanted, But, we will be adding a final coat of paint. Some parts seem barely covered by the base coat, much less a final coat. Not difficult to do ,just not perfection. par for our world

  • Horrible smell!
Color: White Size: Twin/Full
I truly don’t understand all of the 5 star reviews. I bought this bunk bed because the company states it uses non toxic paint and materials that are healthy and safe for children. The odor from this bed is so toxic my child has not been to use it. We have been allowing it to off gas for 3 weeks and it still unbearable. The paint quality is terrible. You can see right thru the pine wood. It definitely needs a second coat. Also, the slats that hold the mattresses are too far apart to provide adequate support for a mattress. We ended up going to Home Depot and purchasing wood to add more support to the bed. I wish I could return the bed but taking it apart and repackaging it would be a nightmare. Will never purchase from this company again. ... show more

  • Good product
Color: Clay Size: Twin/Twin
Well made bed frame. Some imperfections in the wood but it’s real wood so it’s understandable. Instructions were detailed and easy to follow and took a while to put together but worth the time

  • It's important to read it.
Color: Clay Size: Twin/Full
The media could not be loaded. Although the product in question has a quality that cannot be ignored, it is important to note that it presents some defects that can be disappointing for some consumers. In particular, the presence of dirt and stains has been noticed in some specimens, which can be annoying for those who are looking for a product in perfect condition. In addition, some customers have pointed out that the finish of the product is not as polished as they would like, suggesting that there is room for improvement in this regard. Overall, although this product has some deficiencies, its overall quality is good and many consumers may be willing to tolerate its imperfections in view of its positive qualities. ... show more
