  • UPDATE oct 24 NOOO DO NOT EVEN TRY IT // Prolly Buy it, So far... *side eyes*
Update OCTOBER 24th : Do NOT buy this. It either will not recognize the Drives or if it does, need luck to really keep them connected, lots of luck. It’s a $150 barely-even-paper-weight Another Update : Sept 19 ‘25 Cancelled the return, this baby is fast, seemingly, I hope it lasts, I’ve left one nvme in tho, will place the other in but liable to YES I WILL LIKELY BUY THE POWER ADAPTER(*silly disgruntled face*) cause it’s noice for loading 100-235b Models, very noice! Ok Ok, I'll be back... I remembered that I do know what I'm doing, I had, somehow forgotten this... And thus... Things made sense, it's fast, it's about 40GBps tho'z so, about that, could be my not having an POWER ADAPTER *mean face* lol, but compared to my lil single-guy-homies, yeah, those were coming in at 900Mbs and this guy, with a single drive, hits it at like 6000 Mbs on Black Magic, concerningly it drops after the first stress test in Amorphous? Amphibian? Some weird random disk tester I found on the App Store? Started out at 6000Mbs then dropped to 4000, then 3660, then like 2000, then 34 lolololol. Again it was noice with the black magic which everyone suggests, also, like, it's over 80% full of Ollama models so, there's many MANY reasons to which I may be getting that inconsistency BUT da** does it load my Qwen3 235b baby nice, so nice, feels faster than my Mac Studio m3 Ultra's internal homies, but, that's not real right? Can't be... Right? I mean I DON'T HAVE THAT POWER ADAPTER *super grimace* lolololol oh yeah, apparently, I should've expected that so says the GPT's, I run into this problem all the time cause I'm getting old and thus, wise in some ways dumb as a banana in others. Or something, etc. yada yada. :D BUT BUT! I still feel suspect *suspect face* lolol, I'll be back :D ... show more

  • Impressed
Well built and stable. Performs well as expected at USB 4 speeds. Listing is not clear if this is newer 80Gbps USB 4 or if it is Thunderbolt4/5, but that doesn’t really matter. With 4TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe it is only a little slower than the internal memory of my Mac Studio and my Thunderbolt 5 external SSD. Plan to add a second NVMe to this expansion box when I get a good price on another 4TB. Again, I am impressed with the build quality and functionality! ... show more

  • Complete junk - disconnects with every file transfer.
As a video editor I need reliable, fast external SSD devices. This is the worst. Disconnects non-stop both with and without an external power source. I am mid project and I have to order a different drive case to finish because I cant even transfer data from this thing - it disconnects within seconds of starting any transfer. Upgraded high quality certified cables did not fix the issue. Attempted to install difference SSD drive - same thing. Customer. Customer support nonexistent. Initially asks me to describe the issue and never responded back. Complete waste of money, only looks like quality but its junk on the inside. ... show more

  • Beautiful styling match for Mac Studio M4 , one small design flaw
This is a really good cosmetic match for my Mac Studio M4 max - it could be an Apple design. It connects via a stiff u-shaped USB-C connector (two are supplied one for sitting it above the mac studio and one for below it). The expansion dock can hold one or two SSDs . I am using with 2 , Samsung 990 Evo Plus 4TB SSD to give 8TB of additional storage configured using the Mac Raid Disk software. You have to use the Mac Disk Utility to find , mount and format the SSDs. The manual does say that additional power may be required depending on the power draw of the SSD's used. I did not need any additional power for the 2 990 Evo plus SSD's Speed is very good , not as fast as the inbuilt Mac Studio storage (even in Raid configuration), but very acceptable. The underside of the dock has glued on rubber strips that must be peeled off to access 4 screws to open the case to add the SSDs, so now they hang off if the case is lifted. This is poorly implemented. Everything else is very good. The dock boots up and shuts down automatically with the Mac Studio and the drives are always available (you don't have to keep mounting or unmounting) Side notes: I am running the extra drives for data storage , not programs. The Mac software is very unhelpful about installing applications to an external drive and I experienced issues trying to run apps installed in anything other than the default directory. Overall, I would buy again and hopefully can reuse this and the SSDs on my next Mac too. ... show more
