I am a tall person, 2 meter (I think it's almost 6.6 feet) and as great as my Aeron chair is, it was not heigh enough for me to sit straight, which caused some knee pains etc. I saw this product, and thought this can be a good solution, as there aren't so many products for tall people out there. And it worked! I had a bit of concern if this is the right piston, but after some Youtubing, I understood how to check, and I was glad to see that it is suitable. The installation itself was relativity easy, required some strength and an hammer but it did not take more than five minutes (again, thank you Youtube!) and I got me at last a normal size chair! (for me at least) At it's maximum length it is ridiculously high, at wobble a little bit, but when I take it down a bit to the right height, it is stable. So, I am happy, works great, suitable for the new Aeron chair

You may have to hire a Blacksmith to remove the old piston from the chair. These pistons are press fit into the chair and base. Over use and time that press fit becomes tighter and tighter especially if you are a big guy like me. So like me, you may need a large hammer and patience to remove the old piston. Otherwise, it's working great and I like the fact that they have a variety of piston lengths to choose from. I got one that was a couple inches taller than stock piston (again, I'm a big guy), so I really like that. My butt is happy again.

Getting the old cylinder off required a hammer and block of wood. The new one old fit in place pretty easy. However, I don't think it is a good a fit to the chair frame as the original. I can not make the joint wiggle by hand, but when I'm sitting on the chair it makes occasional clicking noises if I lean forward or backwards. The noise seems to come from the joint between the cylinder and the chair frame (not the base with the wheels) and it does not do it all the time. I do weigh 230# though. So it may not make noise for a lighter person.

The cylinder was in good shape when it arrived, no leaks or dents. I removed the black cap and installed it in the bottom of the chair and then turned it over and placed it in the wheel assembly. I pushed down on the chair and it settled nicely into place. When I sat down on the chair and noticed that it sat slightly higher that the old chair which is exactly what I wanted because I ordered the second smallest size. The ability to raise and lower the chair was exactly like the original except this one didn't slowly loose pressure and drop the chair. I am very pleased with my purchase and will use them again when needed. I will update this review if I have further comments on its longevity. (07/2023)

If you have a Steelcase Leap V2 manufactured after 2009, your cylinder is side activated, not top activated. This item will not work with your chair. I went thru the painful experience of taking my whole chair apart and shoving this cylinder in there only to realize it wouldn't go up and down because I have a side activated modern Leap V2. Then I had to figure out how to get it out which was also a massive pain. Some other reviews mention the Leap V2. I bought it thinking if it worked for them, it would work for me. But if you have a newer chair, it won't. Just a heads up.

I had a perfectly good desk chair that started to sink. The gas lift piston was worn out and needed replacing. I found Mastery Mart Office Chair Gas Lift Cylinder Replacement on Amazon and it was my hubby said that I needed to fix the chair. This is a heavy-duty lift that will hold up to 450lbs. Not that I am that heavy, but I figure that this will last longer than the non- heavy duty gas lift cylinder would. My husband spent more time trying to remove the piston that was in my chair than it did to install this one. Installing this one was very easy. All it took was to insert the lift cylinder into the bottom of the chair and then place the other end in the chair base. This took less than ten minutes. Now I have a good desk chair that should last quite a while.

I bought the '6" travel length' version and it just high enough to turn an Aeron size C into a counter height stool. If I had to do it again I might consider the 7.6" version, but it's 3" higher at the lowest height.
