From earlier reviews I had some trepidation about using this for my existing 12/3 cable. Sturdiness and ability to evenly wrap the wire onto the roll was in question. Let me say I now have have no misgivings about either. I had absolutely no problem wrapping my "Yellow Jacket" 12/3 100 footer onto this spool. Well, only one problem: the little restraining snap that originally holds the 1ft connecting cable onto the spool sort of got in the way when winding my 100 foot wire, so I removed it temporarily and finished the loading of the cable. Snapped back in place when done and clipped my newly wrapped cable onto this clip and all was well. I initially decided to avoid trying to do a 'neat' wrap as that was never going to happen after the first use anyway, but this didn't cause any problems with getting the entire 100 foot line onto the spool. It may look a little 'ragged' but all the wire fits securely within the spool boundary and does not interfere with unspooling. All-in-all a good value. Given I'm graduating to using spools from the old random coil (or the better 'weaving') for cable storage, this was a cost-effective way to go this next step. I am puzzled about the slim availability of thes 'use your own cable' spools, though. Amazon was the only reasonably-priced vendor of these, but the nice Prime shipping was a big plus. I wouldn't rate these as truly 'industrial' for every day use, but for reasonably rugged home use, they are perfect. Definitely recommended. ... show more

At my workplace there will be times we will need to run power temporarily to groups of equipment in the warehouse. Previously everyone had hesitated going to find, lug around and detangle a traditional extension cord. With this product we are able to compactly store a portable power source. No time is wasted having to untangle or manage a 50-100ft cord. The multiple outlets is very convenient to avoid having to constantly change plugs. The built in circuit breaker protects against taking the rest of the circuit down while troubleshooting faulty equipment that may have electrical issues making a short more likely. Everyone is very happy to have this around and is getting more use than we though it would. Will probably end up adding more to our shop in the near future. ... show more

The cord rolls up nicely and smoothly, however you will need to help it roll serpentine across the spindel - not a problem as much as just helping with expectations. The cable itself is of heavy duty spec to accommodate current draw of large concrete saws and tile saws. The metal sides on the spindle wheel seem like a good idea at first, but the do bend as the device is knocked about - but you can just bend them back. I like it. If you like gadgets or things that seem to simply your life, then its the little things that make you happy right? Well, if you use extension cords, not talking about those indoor 2-6 feet one but heavy gauge 25+ foot ones. Unwinding them usually ends up with some knots or when finished rolling them back up ends up a snarled mess. So enter this outdoor extension cord reel. In practice does it make this chore better? Yes. Is is worth it? I hate to say, Maybe. Why? For the weekend handy person, this can save some time and frustration. For someone who used extension cords for work, I would say this will not hold up to the daily rigors of a work environment. The reel case is plastic, nothing wrong with plastic IF it is of a heavy thickness, which this is not. To give you some perspective, it is about as thick as 4 or 5 playing cards. I don't think it would survive a 5 foot drop. The overall feel of the reel case, the A/C outlet sockets are flimsy. Now it did what I needed it to, so I don't have any complaints about utility, just for the cost, I would have hoped for something that gives the owner some confidence in the overall construction. The cord itself appears to be sturdy and of decent quality. Held up to 4 hour power washing and two 6 hour electric paint sprayer sessions without any problems. PROS: helps simplify the chore of deploying and securing an extension cord for outdoor or even indoor use. Four outlets and circuit breaker protection. Fairly light weight and relatively compact size. CONS: the reel case feels flimsy, the winding knob feels like it can break off in short order, the A/C outlets feel cheap. Probably won't survive a 5 foot drop, especially when the cord is wound up (heaviest) OVERALL: recommended for light and non-commercial use. Would like the case to be slightly thicker and the winding knob to be metal in a metal to plastic bushing. Cost vs value is med/low ... show more

This is my second power reel purchase. The first one was industrial quality. This one is shorter by 10 feet and substantially lighter. For some reason, the plugs on this one were hard to use/tight. Moreover, they made using a power washer and charging a battery at the same time difficult. I would say this will work fine for extending the reach of power sources on your deck, but it is a bit light weight for heavier power needs. ... show more
