  • These are my go-to locks for the gym
Over the past 20 years I've used this lock for lockers at a variety of high school pools, YMCAs, and gyms, and when I lose one or forget which gym/swim bag I've put it in, this is the one I buy again. I've tried other locks, but I always end up with this one. Here's why I love it. 1) SIZE. It's large enough that I can see the numbers without reading glasses, and small enough that it will fit into even the narrowest confines (some locker latchlocks have very narrow holes) where larger locks would be challenged. 2) EASY. It's easy to set the numbers of choice. Over two decades of use, I've never had the number reset issues others have described. That doesn't mean they don't happen--it just hasn't been my experience over long-term use with several of these locks. 3) STRENGTH: For the size, this is strong. It's not the big, beefy security lock. If someone has heavy-duty cable cutters, it won't stand a chance--but there's not a lot of that going on at the gym. I put my iPhone in the locker, feeling that it's more secure with this lock guarding it than in my car. 4) LIGHTWEIGHT: I put a ton of stuff in my gym/swim bag, and it's heavy. I don't need extra weight, and I like that this trooper is not only strong, but also lightweight and doesn't add to the burden. I haven't found a downside to this handy little lock. It would nice if it would go get my coffee after the swim, but I haven't found any of its competitors that will do that either. ;-) ... show more

  • Solid construction, easy to use, and delivered in 24hrs
This is tool-grade steel and very secure once in place. I usually buy "Master" locks and this is equally well made and seems sure to last for years. Recommended.

  • PERFECT AND VERY HELPFUL LOCK
I HAVE FOUR OR FIVE OF THESE LOCKS AND THEY ARE PERFECT FOR SECURING DUFFLE BAGS AND BACKPACKS AND LUGGAGE AS THEY HAVE A 4-DIGIT COMBINATION. ORIGINALLY, I WAS CONCERNED THAT THE LOCK DOESN'T HAVE A DEEP ENGAGEMENT; HOWEVER, IT DOESN'T NEED ONE. IT IS A THIN NICE APPEARING LOCK, EASY TO HIDE UNDER A BAGGAGE STRAP AND IS EASY TO LOCK AS IF FITS THROUGH SMALLER OPENINGS. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS LOCK BECAUSE YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING TO USE THEM ON. ... show more

  • Convenient for low security use, dials can be hard to turn
We've used them on luggage but they are to bulky and have sharp edges that tend to get caught on things. We now mainly use these to lock our patio boxes and keep the lids secure from the wind. They are generally out of the weather though will get wet from time to time. If someone wants to break these it would not be difficult...they are a deterrent. We found right out of the box that a couple of the dials were difficult to turn...this has not gotten worse with exposure to weather but it can be challenging for folks with arthritic hands. ... show more

  • Combination doesn't work - poor build quality of the locking mechanism
I bought two of these to use on a Pelican case. First one I opened and set the combination as instructed. It's a simple four step process so even I could do it. So I thought! I have a BA Hons and MA in architecture and Diploma in construction law so I thought i could handle it. I set the first one and tried to open and it stayed locked. I thought, maybe I messed this one up so I checked instructions and slowly went through, step by step, and the same thing, it locked and didn't open. Went back to the first one and tried again. It opened!!!! OK, I was excited and locked it and tried the other - it wouldn't open. Went back to the first and tired it again and NOW it wouldn't open! Both won't open and they are locked but I'll keep trying! Very surprised as I have several other Master's combination locks and they work great. It seems the mechanism is loose and poorly fitting and I'm thinking the teeth are a fraction off alignment and that's all it takes to jam it up. ... show more

  • Great lock option for handgun cases.
I purchased 5 of these to use for gun cases, and they work great. Heavier duty than your typical luggage lock, but obviously these aren't what you would call high security. I wouldn't trust these for keeping anything really valuable from getting stolen, but they're perfect for keeping nosey people out of your gun cases at home and at the range. Setting them was very easy, and I didn't run in to any of the issues others have reported on any of the 5 locks I purchased. I've also added a photo to show the size of the lock in context with a standard handgun case, since I had a hard time visualizing the size of the locks using the stock photos Amazon uses... the shackle is just about the perfect size to fit through the typical 1/4" hole on most plastic cases. ... show more

  • Too conspicuous for luggage...
These guys are heavy duty in weight, construction, and too big for luggage. The base looks and feels like solid brass, so that's good and true. The lock bar/shackle does not look nor feel like hard steel or metal--it feels more like some chrome plated alloy (I could be wrong but that's what it feel like to me), so this part is lacking. To set/reset the combination lock is easy, you don't need a pin or any other device--just follow the simple instruction (turn the shackle 180 degree counterclockwise (facing backward) and press the other half of the shaft into the prebored slot then set the combination, when done lift and return the shackle to its normal locking position and you're ready to go--it sounds funny, but it really is easy when you see and have the lock in your hands). The three star is for the description which said "luggage" padlock--it is way too heavy for normal luggage. These locks are better suited for storage sheds, doors, equipment bins, etc., anything that does not have to be carried about often. The three stars is for the description that is not compatible for the advertised use. For luggages, I only need something as a quick deterrent and to prevent zippers from flaying apart. This lock would attract more attention and curiosity causing one to wonder "What is in that luggage that requires such protection?" which may lead to my luggage being sliced open in pursue of the answer. I do not recommend this lock for luggage. ... show more
