I have four of these. I love them. I give them as gifts to every friend who has a new baby. My first was for an open office to help drown out private conversations from a nearby kitchen that I really didn't want to hear. My second was for my first baby. We got a third when my second was born and finally I got my own so I could sleep through my husband's snoring. They're great. Until they rattle. There's nothing more annoying than an inconsistent rattle. Determined not to spend another $50, I unscrewed the bottom of the worst offender. It was filled with dust. I cleaned it with compressed air and put the smallest drop of silicone lubricant, that specifically does not attract dust, onto the base of the shaft that the fan sits on top of. I let it penetrate for a minute, turned it on and the rattle was gone. $50 saved and I'm in love again. ... show more

Not the same wattage as my 2013 model!!! Not as loud either, and puts off a “hollow” like sound. My 2013 model is 40 watts and the new model is only 18 watts! The box says “Original model, beloved by generations” but it’s not made like the original!!! Why change a good thing???? My 2013 model is still going strong, but bought this one on lighting deal, for a back up. Sadly will be returning it though. So disappointed!!! ... show more

    • Quality seems to have dipped in newer versions

I have had one of these for years that I still use in my 4yo’s room and it works great. We purchased a second one when we were expecting our second child and that one has been tempermental since we started using it about 5 months ago. At first it would take a couple seconds to turn on, which I honestly did not think much of but that got worse. Now it starts fine 80% of the time but takes up to 15 minutes to start whirring a couple nights a week. I could live with that; just a mild nuisance. What really has me upset is the inconsistent sound the unit is producing after a few months of use. Instead of a steady white noise, it sounds as though the rotating parts inside are not spinning smoothly and it makes emits a loud chirping sound. It is very disruptive rather than relaxing which renders it basically unusable. I have also seen other reviewers mentioning the difference in the low mode volume in newer versus older versions. I can corroborate those claims, but we only ever use the high setting. I am very disappointed with my second go-around with the dohm. I will have to find an alter alternative and I have stopped recommending this to friends. ... show more

    • Strong plastic burning smell

Concerned. I bought this last January after loving the one I got for my daughters room . I had no issues with the first one I got at babiesrus but this one if left on for a few hours has this strong plastic burning smell. I haven’t used this one very much since buying but now as summers ending I wanted to use it more. I thought at first the smell was because it was new but now months later I’m definitely convinced there is something wrong with it. I would like to get in touch with the manufacturer but since I have purchased with amazon I’m am hoping to get some help in the right direction here. I also have another baby due in December and really don’t want to have to buy another sound maker. I’m willing to ship out the one I have so someone can look at it . ... show more

    • Problems from the beginning, expensive to break so quickly.

I had this product for less then a year and it began giving me trouble within the first 60 days. First, I would turn it on and get no noise out of it, I'd toggle the switch back and forth and eventually it would "catch" and stay on. Then after another month this little trick stopped working and I had to start wiggling the actual power connector where it attached to the machine to get it to work. Wiggle it back and forth for a few seconds and most of the time it would catch, most of the time. Now, as of this morning that second little trick stopped working and I am left with a motor humming sound that shows it is getting power however the product does not make the white noise any longer and just hums with power, no noise. I use this for my infant son's room to put him down for naps and sleep in our busy house and it appears that about 9 months after purchase the product is dead. I should have taken action as soon as I noticed a problem but I'm sure as any busy parent knows, there are 1000 other important things to take care of every day, so if it wasn't "completely" broke I didn't fix it. Lesson learned both from a responsiveness standpoint and a product standpoint. I will not order this expensive unit again with the history of it breaking. There are far less expensive white noise machines that I am confident do quite and adequate job at half the cost. I will give those a try instead of another investment in a product that broke so quickly. ... show more

Two months into use and the machine is already making a weird noise - like the machine is already struggling and losing power. Otherwise it’s a nice ambient noise machine. But should last for at least a year or two if not more. We barely made it past the return window before we noticed the sound so can’t return it. :( ... show more

    • The rattle is REAL! And very annoying!

This has a beautiful white noise sound and is really nice to adjust to the perfect "hummmm," BUT....the rattle is real! I read the other reviewers saying how theirs started to rattle and if they cleaned out the dust it was fine, but mine started rattling on day 2 of having it. I bought this for my baby and she doesn't seem to mind, but it is pretty annoying considering the price. If the rattle were gone, it would be soooo nice and worth a 5 star review. I would even bump it up to a 3 star if it started rattling a couple months into having it. But seriously! Day 2! ... show more

    • Motor Failed after 4 months of normal use - do not buy

We bought this because the baby was used to sleeping with our 20 year old model by another manufacturer in our room. This model failed after 4 months of just overnight use. Our other 20 year old model by another maker is still running fine. It is junk. Don't buy it.
