  • Quality
Great Hive top feeder. 4 gallon capacity. All parts heavy duty, quality build.

  • Easy way to feed your bees
Large capacity, easily filled and cleaned. It would be great if there was a protective paint or finish on the wood, but that’s easy enough to do yourself if you plan ahead.

  • Great for end of season feeding
Well made. When you need to really bulk up on feeding, like the end of summer, this is the best way to proceed.

  • No drowning
This feeder is built so that there is a ladder for the bees at all times and no float issues like other feeders. Large fluid capacity. Easy to service as the bees are behind the screen.

  • Defective Design Led to Hundreds of Dead Bees — Disappointed in Mann Lake’s Lack of Accountability
As a new beekeeper trying to do things right, I was excited to support a well-known American brand and move away from the cheaper imported hive equipment I had previously bought through Amazon. After hearing good things in the beekeeping community about Mann Lake, I decided to purchase their Hive Top Feeder with Unpainted Super — hoping it would be a quality upgrade. Unfortunately, that decision has turned into a deeply disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share to prevent others from losing their bees. Initially, the feeder looked well-constructed and fit my Langstroth hive snugly. A few days after installing it, I checked in and was encouraged to see bees using it properly inside the safety screen. All seemed well. But when I returned again to refill it, I found hundreds of my bees had drowned in the feeder — they had somehow gotten underneath or around the safety screen and couldn’t escape. As someone trying to establish a healthy new colony, this was gut-wrenching. I contacted Mann Lake directly, expecting concern and maybe a replacement or explanation. What I got instead was dismissal. The representative told me this is a known issue — that bees can get through where the screen meets the plastic, and that they “tell customers to use silicone” to seal it. Why is this advice not included anywhere in the product listing, documentation, or packaging? Why are these units still being shipped in this state without any fix from the manufacturer? Their response was essentially, “we don’t control how they’re made,” and I was advised to take it up with Amazon. Let me be clear: This isn’t a matter of user error. This is a design defect in a product meant to safeguard bee lives. Selling a product that you know allows bees to bypass the screen and drown, and then telling customers it’s their job to silicone it shut, is not acceptable from a company that markets itself as a leader in the industry. Even worse, the product is shipped and sold by Mann Lake, yet they pushed the refund responsibility onto Amazon. The lack of accountability was shocking and frankly has erased any trust I had in their brand. I’ve since returned the product and will not be purchasing from Mann Lake again. If you’re considering this feeder, beware — unless you want to start your own beeswax caulking operation to “fix” a brand-new product, stay away. Until Mann Lake acknowledges and corrects this issue, this listing should be pulled for redesign. ... show more

  • Good feeder but bees do drown
Easy to use and fill so makes feeding easy. My bees were building comb in the feeder so I had to take apart to clean. Bees do drown in the channels. A lot of reviews say they had no dead bees; however, it is more that you cannot see the dead bees. I have used other types of feeders and the amount of dead bees was about the same. ... show more

  • Best Feeder out there
Has the wire crimped inside the feeder keeping the bees out of the liquid. So little to none loss of bees during the season of derth. Has a flat bottom board across the bottom of the base, keeping the hive from building cone underneath the feeder. Highly recommend this product.

  • Plenty of liquid capacity
Make feeding the bees syrup easy and convenient
