  • 4.0 out of 5 stars $lider plate for easy/quick camera swap on tripods
Style: Sliding Plate
These slide plates are slightly overpriced and seem to be cast, rather than the older style I have which were machined. This slider works fine and construction is solid, but I feel it's a bit over-priced for being "cast" and because you are paying for the Manfrotto name. I happened to have brought an expensive Manfrotto tripod many years ago, so I pay the extra premium price for compatibility with the other Manfrotto products/accessories. Though it's cast aluminum, it is arguably functional and durable under normal use. And it is extremely handy and convenient for cameras and camcorders since the cameras can be easily and quickly swapped in and out of the tripod head. And they protect the bottom of camera and offer a quite stable base when setting the camera on a flat surface. If the slide plate you are buying is expensive, then make sure it an OEM Manfrotto product. There are several after-market manufacturers that replicate the original product and place the name "Manfrotto" in their ad. If it inexpensive, then it probably doesn't matter. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars life saver
Style: Sliding Plate
We were stuck in a blizzard last winter and the Manfrotto 501PL Rapid Connect Sliding Plate with 1/4-Inch - 20 Screws and 3/8-Inch Fixed Screws kept my family from certain death. I was commissioned by a well know magazine to shoot video footage in the little known high mountains of Oklahoma of the exotic purple fox and her cubs. The dang fox took forever to put on her makeup and that made the shoot go long, leaving our car buried under a suffocating three and a half inches of snow. After all hope was lost, my dear wife in near hypothermic state reached into my camera bag and pulled out the Manfrotto 501PL Rapid Connect Sliding Plate and we used it to scrape the death blanket of snow from our windshield. The plate did scratch the glass beyond repair, but we were able to get that replaced and use the money we saved by shopping online to buy an ice scraper and some hot chocolate with real marshmallows. Thank you Manfrotto. You mean more to us than you'll ever know. We've decided to name our first child after you - Manfrotto Amazon Herriott. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Solid replacement. Look out for VHS pin!
Style: Sliding Plate
This is exactly what I was looking for. I recently bought a used Manfrotto Tripod with the 501 HDV head. It didn't come with the plate, so I bought this. It's a perfect fit and works great with my camera. The only thing that caught my attention is the VHS pin (that small shaft that sits in-front of the mounting screw to keep the camera mounted in the right direction). On older Manfrotto plates the pin is a spring loaded metal piece that will adjust to the size of any VHS hole. The pin on this mounting plate is a hard plastic that is not spring loaded. It created a small gap between the plate and my camera (JVC GY-HD110U). This won't affect the use of this product, but it caught my attention that the plate does not mount flush to the bottom of my camera. The pin is removable, so if it becomes a problem I will pop it out. Solid plate! Works with 501 HDV head! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect
Style: Sliding Plate
Great durable base plate for use with my Manfrotto Photo-Video head. My only complaint is in regards to the rubber material chosen for cushioning my attached SLR camera. If you photograph outside on a hot sunny day unprotected by direct midday sunlight, within 45 min to an hour the rubberized pads in-between the metal shoe mount and your camera will heat up and expand. This expansion is significant enough to cause the ends of the rubber to buckle, compromising the adhesive that holds the rubber pad to the metal shoe. By removing the shoe from my camera and by placing the shoe on my after the photo shoot, I had lost one of the rubber pads accidentally by the time I returned home. I purchased another shoe mount, always place the shoe mount in a plastic bag inside my camera bag after each photo shoot, and have not encountered any further problems since doing so. ... show more

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Manfrotto Plate for 701HDV Head
Style: Sliding Plate
This sliding plate is similar to the one that came with the head 701HDV. It fits the head, but the original plate for the 701 HDV had the front stop pin which was metal on a spring. This pin is plastic and does not move down. The pin can be removed if you don't want to use it. Manfrotto does not make the original plate anymore. ... show more

  • 1.0 out of 5 stars Not As Pictured, Bad Design
Style: Sliding Plate
This plate is not as pictured and is not the same as found on the tripod head which you've bought. It does not come with two screws, does not have the rubber plug, nor the brass set point. This is what you get: the plate will not fit a 3/8in screw - the rubber plug is gone, you can only fit a 1/4in screw through that hole. They give you a 3/8in threaded sleeve to screw into your camera then you have to thread the 1/4in into that 3/8in sleeve. The brass set point is not supplied, rather you have to use their plastic piece and press it into the plate from the top. This means that if you have equipment you wish to mount that does not have the alignment set point you either cannot mount it or you have to struggle to press that plastic piece out, in which case it flies across the room and you lose it for good. This is simply a inferior design because it you have heavy equipment (which is one reason why someone buys a 501 or 503 tripod head), that 1/4in screw which you have to use here may not be strong or reliable enough to secure a super expensive camera. The only thing I'd trust a 1/4in screw for is a DSLR or mounting some lens, optic, etc. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars The real deal!
Style: Sliding Plate
Got this for a Manfrotto head (yeah, no kidding!). And it's the genuine article! I had ordered another plate right here on Amazon for about $10 + shipping, and it turned out to be NOT for the 501 head as the company had advertised. (To their credit, the company immediately issued a refund {minus shipping}, and they let me keep the plate). So I was extremely pleased to find that this one did indeed fit snugly and securely. ... show more
