Description

The 18V LXT® Sub-Compact Brushless Polisher/Sander (XVP01ZB, tool only) is a compact solution for precise detail polishing or sanding applications. A dual speed selector provides 0-2,800 RPM in polish mode and 0-9,500 RPM in sanding mode. A variable speed trigger with power lock-on provides added convenience. The brushless motor enables the motor to run cooler and more efficiently for longer run time performance and rubberized gear housing helps protect delicate surfaces. The polisher/sander features Anti-restart protection, which engineered to prevent motor start up when the battery is inserted with power switch in locked-on position. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide- style batteries. Makita® 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Used it to clean up some 20 year old headlight assemblies. Did a really nice job without much effort. The tool is nicely built and ergonomic. I wish you could lock the trigger on a lower speed besides full blast but it's a small nit pick. I was a little hesitant to buy it and just use a drill attachment but I'm glad I got this polisher instead ... show more

Used this to polish our glass shower doors and the shower wall surround. Removing the scale buildup on the glass required the use of 3” round scotch Brite pads with Turtle Wax Restorer. Glass looks like new. Shines brightly. Used foam pads and Meguires Car Clean and Wax on the walls of the shower. Came out smooth and clean. The tool itself is a bit heavy with the 5ah battery. But it had plenty of power and the variable speed helped reduce splatter on start up. So many projects around the house and in the garage to tackle with this very handy tool. ... show more

This thing has just the right angle on the head that makes it real easy to use. It also is pretty lightweight. If you've used the smaller battery, I don't use it with the handle. I took the handle off but it might work better with the handle. If you were trying to keep it steady, that's the only problem I've had is trying to keep it smooth when working. The only other thing that I would maybe like to see is maybe a locking mechanism when you're working for a long time and you want to keep it at a certain speed. It would be nice to be able to have the trigger lock where you want it rather than constantly keeping your finger on the trigger. Makita is the bomb though. Excellent quality. I also like that it's brushless so you don't have to worry about replacing the carbon brushes ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This is a very high quality kit that sells at a premium. It's a specialized tool that appeals to automobile detailers and woodworkers. It comes with two arbors: one takes 3 inch polishing discs and one that takes 2 inch sanding discs. I was disappointed that no 2 inch sanding discs were included. This tool is specialized because of the small diameter arbors. It's good at polishing around car and truck door frames where a larger polisher would overlap and be cumbersome to use. The sanding attachment is good for sanding around narrow cabinet door frames. I'm sure there are other uses but be aware this tool won't stand on its own. It would normally be used in conjunction with a larger version for the larger car panels and cabinet wood surfaces. There is a lot I like about this tool, particularly the Makita quality. I've owned other Makita battery powered tools and none of them disappointed me. Let me get to the reason I didn't give this full five stars. For the premium price you pay, the following should have been included. 1) It came with a 2 inch sanding arbor but no starter standing discs. (It only came with polishing heads.) 2) It came with only one 2Ah battery. That's a pretty small battery for the load this type of tool takes. I would expect a 4Ah battery or two 2Ah batteries. 3) The carrying bag is flimsy. I've had better quality bags that come with much cheaper tools. Having said that, this is a very high quality tool that is consistent with the quality Makita is known for. If you are OK with the points above and are willing to pay the premium price, this tool should work very well for you. ... show more

It has performed as expected. As suggested by a previous reviewer, it would be nice if it could be locked on a particular speed rather than on-off with variable that has to be held while using.
