The XVJ03Z has a range of precision and comfort features for precise jig saw cutting performance, including less vibration and lower noise for more control and comfort. It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V Lithium-Ion series, the world’s largest cordless tool line-up powered by an 18V Lithium-Ion slide- style battery. Makita 18V Lithium-Ion batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger. For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT and Compact Lithium-Ion batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

I needed this to install a large doggie door in a standard metal clad foam door. My biggest issue was the battery. I have slightly older 18v batteries that came with my drill set. I couldn't get the batteries in the saw for 5 minutes. I used colorful language thinking I would have to return the saw. But, finally, I just muscled (slammed) the battery in and it finally installed and worked. The saw is amazing and did the job perfectly. However, it took two fully charged batteries to cut out the simple hole in the door. So, this world be great for occasional small projects, but if you're looking for an all-day tool, get one with a cord! ... show more

The low price of $88 I presume is because this one uses brushes and the newer brushless cordless models are the latest models, but it is an excellent piece of engineering with an ingenious quick blade change without tools. it is massif in weight and designed to be rock steady in use comes with some blades that cut steel brass aluminum hard wood soft wood. It arrived in less than 24 hours by UPS on my doorstep. All in all a great experience. I put it to work within the hour cutting a metal keyway inside a bronze machine part of my rose engine lathe.
