  • Slow-start disable
Style: Jig Saw
There’s been some differing comments as to whether or not the soft-start feature can be disabled. Here’s my .02: I received mine the other day and followed the simple instructions in the manual. I was successful in disabling the soft-start feature. It’s just as easy to enable the feature, too. For reference, I live in the USA and my saw was made in the United Kingdom. I haven’t used the saw yet but it does seem solid and well built. Good price from Amazon as well. ... show more

  • Excellent tool
Style: Jig Saw
Excellent tool, nice balance, plenty of power I was concern about other reviews commenting on the slow start technology. I agreed this function would have been a deal killer if it could not be disabled. Well the instructions for overriding "slow start" are clearly listed in the user manual and easy to do. " USA" purchase I also found the safety switch easy to use with one hand. Once you start to cut you can stop start without engaging the safety switch again while actively working. If you pause for a short period approximately 10 seconds or more then the safety switch will need to be triggered again. But the function is easy and I found it to be a non issue. ... show more

  • I turned off the slow-start!!!
Style: Jig Saw
I was just about to write a review that echoed the gripes of angry users having to deal with this terrible slow-start. The tool was meant for precision cutting, but it was reduced to just making rough cuts, something I could've done with my pre-cold war jigsaw. Every cut I made, I've prayed that when the normal speed kicked in, it wouldn't send the blade flying. Dismayed with the fact that only the UK models had the ability to shut off this god-awful feature, I decided to give it shot anyway: While it's turned off, turn the dial to 6. Turn it on. Turn the dial all the way to 1, then immediately turn it all the way back to 6. The LED light should blink a few times. Now, every time you turn it on, the LED should blink a few times, indicating that the slow-start is disabled. I would never imagine that a jigsaw would bring a cathartic moment in my life—It is now a real tool. To be clear, I ordered this from Amazon US, not UK. Makita may have allowed this feature recently, or it was a production batch fluke. Who know, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Or could it? ... show more

  • Very nice product
Style: Jig Saw
Very handy and easy to use, with comfortable grip. The only nuisance is needing to reset it so it will start again, even after only seconds of being turned off. Alas, it is certainly a safety feature. But, as with other Makita products, I expect it will serve me for years. So glad Makita has stayed with the same 18 volt batteries, rather than changing them every few years like other manufacturers do... so one doesn’t need to go out and buy new equipment or have two sets from the same manufacturer because of different sized batteries. ... show more

  • Little pricey, but extremely well made.
Style: Jig Saw
This tool is so much better than the old cordless Makita it replaced. I have a number of Makita 18v tools, so I "had" to go with this one. It is an exceptional tool, but a little over priced. I wouldn't consider it a "best buy" but I do highly recommend it otherwise.

  • This is a fantastic cordless jigsaw
Style: Jig Saw
Although the soft start takes a little getting used to, the performance of this jigsaw is as good as I would expect a corded version to perform.

  • Great product
Style: Jig Saw
What can I say quality yes, reliability yes, and of course portability yes. I’m already a bit consumer out cordless Makita products and this one left me In aw by its quality. I rated this product 5stars since 4 1/2 was not possible and the only reason why would be because Makita could have come up with a better plastic giude. But there easy to replace if they break or get a bit damage. ... show more
