  • Tight spaces are no match for this tool.
Style: Tool Only
If you're looking for a compact battery-operated reciprocating saw, this is what you need. There was a bit of vibration to my hand when I cut about 50 six-penny nails that fasten the roof plywood to the facia but this tool made short work of that process. It is a great tool all around and the standard reciprocating blades will fit with only one drawback, the shoe needs to be tightened with the supplied hex wrench. ... show more

  • Great for small jobs Great for small jobs
Style: Tool Only
Just to level-set, I'm a 77 year-old woman, 108 lb. I purchased this saw to cut down a dead palm tree in my yard. As you can see, it worked great. While I have no plans to take up logging as a second career, this little saw has lots of power for small jobs like this. [Note: the blades must be purchased separately. I already had a Makita battery fortunately] ... show more

  • NOT A POWERFUL SAWZALL
Style: Tool Only
Not the most powerful saw ever by a long shot. Cuts 2 inch PVC pretty well. I bought it because I work in tight spaces (plumbing) and I have a feeling it's gonna save my butt one day. Don't buy this if you need to cut anything bigger than 2 inch pvc

  • This comes in handy for small jobs.
Style: Tool Only
This is a nice tool for limited use. If you use it for any extended amount of time it will get hot which is not exactly a good thing. But when you want to make a quick cut this is much easier to use than its bigger brother which I also own which is why I say its nice for limited use. If your looking to buy this for all day use your wasting your money but for small jobs this is an ideal tool to have. ... show more

  • Lightweight, light duty. Buy protection plan. You get what you pay for.
Style: Tool Only
If you only want a VERY light-duty saw, this is a good tool. 1-inch diameter roots are about the max it can handle. Also, it has a trigger on the body of the unit near the blade, which I have accidentally triggered more than once by mistake. It triggers too easily. BE CAREFUL! Motor burned out after less than 5 hours of use. Buy protection plan cuz you will burn it out. ... show more

  • Handy Little Tool
Style: Tool Only
I own several Makita power tools. I also own a rather large and heavy battery-powered reciprocating saw. I am so glad I bought this tool. It is light weight, well built (of course because it is a Makita tool), easy to handle and operate. For its compact design, it works surprising well.

  • Nice tool, but could use some tweaks for ergonomics
Style: Tool Only
I am most certainly a fan of the Makita 18v LXT lineup. I own MANY of said tools. I purchased this one as of late because the larger full-size recip saw is sometimes too heavy or large for certain applications. On first glance, this tool is made very well. Makita is top-of-the-line in power tools, so this is expected. The weight and balance are both acceptable, and are the best I could imagine they can be. There are two caveats that I can see, however. The first being the stroke length of the cut. It is small. It is similar to that of a 12v recip saw. That means twice as much time to make a cut as it's full-size bigger brother. It also means that the likeliness of vibration in the object being cut is increased, because the blade is making a short stroke versus a large stroke. This can make the cut even slower, and also be more of a pain to hold onto. Since this tool is made for one-handed use, the likely scenario involves holding the object in the other hand. You get where I'm going with this. My second dislike is the ergonomics of the triggers. I am a tall man with rather large hands. It is rather awkward to use the top (barrel) trigger. The diameter of the housing is just not conducive to good control and proper trigger actuation. The rear handle mounted trigger is a different story. It is rather easy to use, as would be expected since this is the normal location and shape/size for the rest of their tools. The problem with this trigger lies in the weight distribution. It is obviously more awkward to hold up the front weight of the saw from the rear of the tool. This makes for a better two-handed use. All-in-all this is a decent tool, but I would likely not purchase it again. ... show more

  • great design!
Style: Tool Only
it can be difficult to talk about the features of a saws-all. After all, they are all much the same right? No! This Makita model is a cut above the rest. It is light, well balanced and has any number of different ways to hold it, depending on purpose. The most unusual thing about it is there are 2 power switches. One at the back handle, much like any saw, but also has a paddle button along the shaft of the tool, This allows it to be used at different angles, both left handed and right handed and get into almost any position to reach difficult cuts. This is not an all-conquering saws-all beast - much more surgical in design for small cuts in wood or plastic with one or 2 hands. It would not be suitable for the more brutish jobs of cutting repeaedly theough metal or large section timber. After buying this, I'm not sure I will need a jigsaw because this should double up as one. Only negative thing is that Makita could have used a brushless motor. ... show more
