  • This saw EXCEEDED my expectations...
Style: Circular Saw Kit
because my expectations were reasonable. The sound of the low RPM motor will throw you when you first hear it. But trust me, it more than makes up for it with it's power. However, this is NOT a replacement for a circular saw! The ONLY similarity to a circular saw is...the blade is round! This is a niche cutting tool, made for getting into tight places, awkward positions, or for precise cuts. It WILL cut 5/8-in OSB, 3/8 and 1/2-in plywood, and 3/4" stock,or tile, but not all day long. It is the perfect remodeling tool for those cuts you cannot get to with any other tool. I needed it to cut long strips of 1/2-in drywall from my walls and ceilings for a remodeling project. It was imperative that the hundreds of feet of cuts be perfectly straight, even when being cut overhead, leaving a clean seam for joining new drywall. This tool gave me excellent, clean cuts, that were effortless, even overhead. A bonus was that the slow (but powerful) RPMs did not throw dust everywhere! If it broke after getting that chore done, I would have gladly spent the money on it. I fully expected that the drywall dust would have done it in. But I use it to cut holes in the back of cabinets to accommodate plumbing while crawling inside them, and plunge-cut into sub-flooring to install floor outlets. I use it all the time for odd little cuts. Again, this is a "cutting tool" made to get into small spaces, awkward positions, and for precision cuts, when you can't get there with anything else. It will cut plywood, and cuts pine up to 1" thick--just not all day long. Used as intended, you will LOVE this compact and precise little "cutting tool". Now that it has saved me countless hours and from many headaches, I can't imagine doing a remodeling job without it! ... show more

  • Great product - very handy
Style: Circular Saw Kit
I haven't found anything that I don't like about the Makita circular saw ... except that you have to be very careful not to back up when cutting. The two batteries that came with it have a long battery life. I like the case, which adds to the portability. Have been using it to cut floor tile. Also cut 2 x 4 by cutting both sides. The blade turns slower than a plug-in circular saw, so you have to go slower - but it is easy to use. The one down side ... there are more replacement blades sold in the 4" diameter range than the 3 3/8". I would order again ... ... show more

  • A Fine Saw For Small to Medium Cutting
Style: Circular Saw Kit
I love this saw! My old Makita 9/6 volt Ni-Cad battery powered saw was a good tool but finally broke. Even when it was running, its NiCad battery forced me to plan ahead and charge, for hours, its battery before I could use it, for it would not hold a charge for more than a few days, even when new. Ditto its replacement batteries over the years. THIS saw, with its newer technology non-NiCad batteries, is wonderful. Holds a charge forever. I have many other Makita tools with the same technology and I love it. It came with a good charger but not Makita's best; the only drawback is that it charges more slowly than the top-end charger. Still, only maybe takes an hour to charge and -- most importantly -- I can charge it and then use the saw anytime during the next few months and it will be fine. It comes with two batteries (well, this kit did) so if I have a project that needed much sawing I'd probably start the project with one battery while the other would go onto the charger to be ready when the first one died. The saw itself adjust easily, cuts straight, and is of a low enough speed that it's great for cutting smaller pieces of wood. It is a wonderful saw for small projects, NOT to replace your AC-powered 7 inch higher powered saw. ... show more

  • Lightweight and easy to use, but battery duration is less than optimal
Style: Circular Saw Kit
Good quality build, comes in a nice hard shell case, and two batteries w/ charger. However, the battery doesn’t last as long as expected between charges so not designed for anything beyond hobby projects.

  • Lovin the Makita 12V Max CXT tool line.... Keep'em coming Makita
Style: Circular Saw, Tool Only
I can't say enough about the Makita 12V Max CXT line of power tools. I own several tools in this line (drill/driver, impact driver, muilti-tool and now this), and the build quality and performance of these tools are second to none, and perfect for my home owner/DYI'er needs (95% of the time). I bought all of my 12V Max CXT tools via Amazon Warehouse. They seem to have a lot of returns of the bare tools (customers not understanding what "bare tool" means). Each tool has been complete and in perfect condition and I've saved about 20% on average. I just received this tool, so the review is based on my initial impression. Build quality is excellent, and on par with any professional grade tool. Performance is good; when I first inserted the battery and pulled the trigger I was underwhelmed, then I grabbed a piece of scrap wood (brick molding, 1 1/4" thick it think) and started making cuts. It cut like a hot knife through butter (with the brand new included blade of course). Included is a wood cutting blade and hex wrench that stores on board and is required to change the blade. It's rated to cut up to 1" think and it did leave about 1/32" of wood uncut on my scrap piece of 1 1/4", but still acceptable for a rough cut in a pinch. ... show more
