Never used an electric planer before but realized this is better for light jobs. Would like to have found a heavier version but not available on Amazon. Easy to use and seemingly durable. Just bounces around on bigger joints jobs.

The Makita planner removed too much wood (red oak) at the zero setting and would gouge the right side badly. See photos. However, it certainly removed wood hence the two stars. Being a reconditioned tool I guess I know why this tool was returned. I don’t know if they (the reseller) actually uses the tool on wood after reconditioning, if not, they really should. The manual says that you can adjust it (not attempted). I’ll go with a new one instead. ... show more

I bought this as a refurbished unit from Amazon. Appeared new but one of the cutters was loose making the cuts wonky. Used the attached gauge to reset and tighten, works great.
