  • A table saw you can carry around
I bought a bowling alley floor to turn into a work bench. At 10' x 42" it weighed more than three of us could carry. I decided to rip it into thirds, plane it and reassemble it on the benchwork. At 3 1/2" thick this was the only way to do that easily. I was very impressed at how a saw that is the same diameter as my StopSaw was able to cut through this big floor like butter AND remain well in my control. I used a 40T blade and it made a very clean cut. I will run it back through the real table saw with a multi-material blade (nails nails nails!) at some point to clean up the cut, but that is largely a function of my unwise decision to try and cut at the seams. Having not ripped a bowling alley floor before, I didn't realize why that was a bad plan. I would say this saw is capable of cutting about anything you throw at it. ... show more

  • I love this saw
I got this saw at an amazing deal. It was way cheaper than what it was going for in the big box department stores. This saw is a beast. It gives you so many more possibilities and it’s big!!! Very easy to handle and it cut like butter!!! If you need a big saw to open up the door to cutting bigger and better pieces of wood this saw is the one you need. Very liable and it has stood the rest of time. ... show more

  • Good Power, Caution if you're a Lefty
Love the Power and Cut Depth. A little difficult to get the base square and the plate seems a bit flimsy compared to the Skil version. I'm a lefty and the location of the safety switch makes it a bit difficult to get the saw going and the handle can't be swapped like it can be on the Skil. This is a bit more than a minor annoyance because I basically have to get the saw going and then reposition my hand on every cut. I probably wouldn't buy this saw if I was a lefty. ... show more

  • Its a BIG saw
Its not the biggest saw but it will cut close to 4" thick timbers. Has alot of kick and will last a long time. Check that the plate is set to 0 degrees out of the box and have fun. Expect some force generated when starting saws this size.

  • Good Value and Great For Cutting 3 1/4 in Claro Black Walnut Live Edge Solid Hardwood Slabs
Makita HS0600 10-1/4" Circular Saw is a great saw for everyday rough cutting. Good Value and great for cutting 3 1/4 in Claro Black Walnut Live Edge Solid Hardwood Slabs. Saw is good balance but very loud and a lot of vibration without dust collection system. The motor is powerful enough to plow through the toughest oak and rip cutting a length of hardwood like Claro Black Walnut. Do not push harder to feed faster and avoid the burn marks. 24tooth blade may not be the best blade for precision ripping or cross cuts, but can do both effectively. Nothing compare with $835.00 FESTOOL Plunge Cut Track Saw TS 75 EQ-F-Plus-FS but it is still a great saw at $299 with free Makita A-94910 10-1/4-Inch Tungsten Carbide Tip Saw Blade, 24-Teeth $31.64 value for quick cutting with very little splinter. Highly recommend Freud D1040W Diablo 10-1/4-Inch 40 Tooth ATB General Purpose Saw Blade with 5/8-Inch and Diamond Knockout Arbor for more efficient cutting. 4 Stars due to the saw blade out of square and not able to align to 90 degrees. Woodpeckers Precision Woodworking Square clearly shown the Makita HS0600 10-1/4" Circular Saw bed plate is always working it's way out of square to the blade. Not a deal breaker for rough cutting live edge solid hardwood slabs and always use FESTOOL Plunge Cut Track Saw TS 75 EQ-F-Plus-FS for final dimension or joining. ... show more

  • Good value but some issues.
I purchased this saw to make some specialty timber framing joints. It’s certainly faster than using a 7-1/4” circular saw and finishing with a hand saw. It mows through pine without issue. It seems appropriately powered; not bogging down but not feeling uncontrollably overpowered. The big blade guard handle is handy. The front handle takes getting used to but feels sturdy. I was initially worried that the safety switch would be a bother but frankly I haven’t even noticed I was using it. I definitely like the weight. While I wish it was lighter, I’m glad it’s not as heavy as the competition. Depth and bevel controls are standard; Which isn’t to say “great” but few saws have precision depth and bevel. The included 24T std. kerf ATB blade cuts decent tough I’ll probably end up replacing it with a 40T blade when it wears out. I have found that it needs to be checked for square more often than smaller saws. It seems that maybe the foot is allowing some flexure and/or the bevel lock is kinda weak but I haven’t exactly determined that yet. It’s be nice if the front handle was repositionable. Holding both handles is slightly awkward. Maybe just something to get used to? My biggest complaint is that the switch handle is uncomfortable. It doesn’t fit my hand well at all. It’s too big around and it’s square in profile instead of an ergonomic oval shape. It’s also kinda slippery having no rubber overmolding like most other saws these days. If it wasn’t so big already, I’d consider wrapping it with grip tape. I’m just glad this isn’t my everyday use saw. Lastly, I’d just like to file my complaint that this does not come with a case, nor is a case even offered separately. These saws are a good deal costlier than a standard 7-1/4” and might not be used as much so it would be nice to protect the investment. If anyone knows of a container this fits, please post it. If Makita reads this, please offer a case! ... show more

  • Solid and Powerful
I was torn between a BigFoot conversion for my old SkilSaw, but I decided to go for the multiple saws option. Being only a little more than the cost of a BigFoot, I was concerned it may feel "cheap", but it has the heft and solid feeling such that I'm not concerned. It had plenty of power to rip cut 6x's and scare the hell out of me when it bound. I like the grinder handle for the foregrip and the oversized guard lever is convenient too. Only bad thing I have to say is about the trigger unlock; it's recessed so you need to twist your hand to depress it, putting your hand in kind of an awkward position to control the saw. That and the 0° wasn't perfect (as other reviews have noted). Just need to square it up beforehand. I wish I had the option to buy a case for it since I won't use it very often (that's the only time I'll say that as I usually throw them away). ... show more
