  • THE BEST OF THE ONES I OWN
I own a number of battery operated flashlights similar to the Makita and none are as good as the Makita.

  • A no nonsense flashlight with some great features and it's a Mikita!
DML808 LED 14.4-18V Flashlight. I have the 18V system so I can't comment on the 14.4V. It's a flashlight, but much more. Has an on and off soft touch button. That's it, it turns the light on and off! Simple and easy. No scrolling through a bunch of never used strobe effects and intensities. It's bright and one of the reasons I purchased this particular Makita flashlight was because of the beam focus. It throws a wide beam, turn the focuser and watch the beam get narrow and tight. Stop at anywhere in between. I believe this is the only model that has a focuser. It's not top heavy or easy to tip over. Set it down, adjust the head which swivels, to the spot where you need it. Some of the other Mikita's are a bit top heavy and bulky. It feels just like the Makita drill, but lighter in the hand. Very ergonomically built. This model has a nice sturdy hanging hook that can be attached toward the top or at the bottom for holding the light in different positions. I've hung the light by the bottom hook and adjusted the beam to a flood light, perfect when camping so the grandkids can make it around camp and for a night light till they fell asleep. The LED is not replaceable but it's rated up to 100k hours. If the LED holds up, and I don't see why it wouldn't, with reasonable care, it should last a lifetime. ... show more

  • Dont expect blinding light output
Needs double output to for price. Flood adjustment dose nothing. The focus beam isn't brighter when concentrated. Poke a hole thru line paper and hold it in front of light...that is what this stupid adjustment dose. Love makita but this sucks

  • My 1st ever four star rating on a Makita
The media could not be loaded. I’m a Makita fan and have a large line of their 18v tools. I was tired of replacing AA batteries on tactical type (really bright, but mainly hand held and not conducive for stationary, hands free work) and other rechargeable lights that suited my needs didn’t have the flexibility that this has. It stands up nicely on the battery base and you can adjust the head around 170deg so placing it back from your work area, being able adjust the beam width and light path really sold me on this, plus it’s a Makita and already having batteries on hand . I also like the hanging hook option. The on/off switch is easy click on/click off...not a rocker or slide. I’m not used to giving four (4) star ratings to Makita, but there are two things that I think should be considered for improvement. One thing is the brightness, it only has 200 lumens, which I knew, just wish with a 5.0 Ah battery it could be ~500 lumens...or double click switch 200/500 lumens option. If your using the light to look into darker or shaded areas when there’s ambient daylight around you it works, but wish it was brighter. If your inspecting or general working the spot position is good for pinpointing in semi shaded or dark areas, the flood is more for dark areas. The second thing is when I go to adjust the beam width from wide/flood position to spot I accidentally start unscrewing the lens cover. I can get in the habit of avoiding that over time...just a thing. After making the video example I tightened the black lens collar more and it helped, the body is metal, but the collar is plastic and can only be tightened so much...it’s working better so to avoid this I recommend tightening it up really snug by hand only. ... show more

  • Exceptionally good flashlight!!!
This flashlight was a Christmas gift for my Dear Hubby (aka: Studmuffin). We both enjoy using high quality tools, and this Makita flashlight is no exception! It’s a Makita; we have never been disappointed by any of our Makita tool purchases. The brightness of the light output is very impressive, and the ability to focus the beam of light is also very helpful! The flashlight has been used almost daily and the battery (not included, but we already had spares) is still going strong from the initial full charge on December 25th. I have no idea how long it may last, but the batteries in our other Makita tools have proven to be the longest lasting batteries compared to our other cordless/rechargeable tools, and that includes three of the big brands. If a perfect flashlight is possible, then this may be it! We live on a 50 acre farm out in the boonies, so our outdoor lighting at night is primarily the stars above. Walking out to the shed to check on our horse and goats was challenging with a regular flashlight (there is no smooth paved road). This light lights up the shed from the house (~150+ ft), and makes the trek out there a lot safer when it’s dark. It’s also fun to shine it out into the forest and play “I Spy” with the wild critters roaming around at night! 😄 ... show more

  • Switch failed in just under 3 years
After almost 3 years of light use, the off/on switch failed. The good news was that there was a month left on the warranty. The bad news is that there are only few Makita service centers and the customer is responsible for return shipping costs. It cost almost $10 to sent the light from NY to NJ. The turnaround was under a week, but Makita issues no tracking or other interaction. Just ship and hope. I did get a brand new light, and the new switch seems to require a much lighter touch. I could have just bought the switch, but it is part of the control board and would have cost more than the return, plus more shipping. It seems like Makita could authorize warranty returns through Amazon, or, even better, walk in returns at the far more convenient Home Depots. More local parts availability would be nice too. I don't think Makita is very big on after sales customer care. I do like the light. The focus ring is an improvement over the already good fixed focus model. I own many Makita lights and other Makita tools, and most are pretty useful. There are a surprising number of operational quirks and weak areas in quite a few though. And given the very high Makita prices and minimal customer service, I'd probably take a serious look at some of the cheaper cordless brands that are more locally supported, if I had it to do over again. ... show more

  • Great overall flashlight
Flashlight purchase for husband, who uses to illuminate backyard area used by dog. Great coverage, spotlight feature very helpful. These are also handy in the event of a power outage, as the light covers a large area.
