This is great for kids getting a hang of how stuff works under the hood. Few issues though which makes it frustrating to work with: 1) the battery compartment can be made a lot better. It does not fit well and also there is no cover so the batteries keep poppoing as it is very loose in terms of that. On a similar note, We have made the camera doll uptill now and the battery compartment goes upside down , making it more vulnerable to fall down. 2) the physical instructions are for only 3 out of 10 designs. It is a hassle specially with the kids to get the information printed or done online. It should be included as part of the product ... show more

It's a great kit but be careful. I'm learning again to follow directions precisely. There are no mistakes in them or the pictures but I have made many by not being careful enough.

This is a great idea, the kit seemed pretty solid and the downloadable software that allows for programming is really pretty good. Unfortunately I don't like when products aren't debugged before they're sold. My son and I built two of the robots with this kit, the first one worked as expected. When we built the self balancing robot we started to have problems. First the gyroscope was not working as it should so I updated the firmware. This only made matters worse. The gyroscope still doesn't work and a host of new problems cropped up on between the robot and makeblock software. At least its a good lesson in frustration, if not robotics, but you don't need to spend $300+ for that. ... show more

Bought this for my son’s science fair project and it was great. The directions included were clear and easy to follow. The packaging kept everything in great shape for shipping. The only disappointing thing is that there are only written instructions for three of the robot designs. The instructions for the other designs are all animated videos at the company web site and were not as easy for him to follow along. It would be great if the company made them available as a downloadable pdf. ... show more
