Really fun and simple "build" - probably takes about an hour if you let the kid do everything and figure out the instructions. The remote control is OK, you can do a few things and its cute. Comes with all the tools you need and its a nice little project. But the mBot app is amazing!     • Doesn't Connect!

Got it completely built and turned on. Connected to my PC, downloaded app attempted to connect robot and nothing works. Bluetooth needs a separate part (89.00) even though most computers have Bluetooth. Attempted USB connection doesn't work, and either does the wifi connection. Finally after 3 days of trying to get the mbit to connect to Bluetooth or through USB, it magically connected, no idea how but it did. ... show more

The MakeBlock mBot Robot Kit is really a great product. What a wonderful early introduction to robotics and coding. The instructions were clear. Our 9yo assembled it mostly on his own. Our 7 yo assembled his with help and guidance. Both were ecstatic with what they made. The robot can be used immediately once assembled using the remote control. It can also be coded and used with bluetooth technology through a smart phone or tablet. I have two qualms with the product. First, it would have been nice if the required batteries were listed more visibly in the listing. It requires 4 AA batteries (something most people have on hand), but also a 3.7V 1800mAh Lithium battery which is not typically something one has around the house or can easily find at a local shop. We were able to find a workaround with a battery we had on hand after visiting some of our local stores with no luck finding it. Second, and more importantly, we have two children and we ordered two kits - a blue and a pink. Unfortunately the remotes work on the same frequency and there is no method of changing that. It seems like it would be easy enough to enable a fix for this and hopefully the manufacturers will consider that in future releases. This was a pretty easy build for my group of 8 - 13-year-old children. There are a lot of features, and fun games you can do with your completed robots. We enjoyed playing robot soccer with a tennis ball. Learning to drive with the app is also fun. We used pipe cleaners to add funny faces or glasses to our completed robots, and they turned out really cute. Would buy again! ... show more

These were holiday gifts. Most of their other gifts are in the toy box, but these get played with almost daily. There’s room for creativity in using them, as well as guided play. My daughter built this project with minor help from an adult. I believe she needed help sending the computer code to the robot. Everything else seems to work as expected and my daughter felt super accomplished from the project.
