This is the best handheld sharpening tool available without a doubt. Super easy to use, and works exactly as described. I have tried several for personal use as well as with the High School hockey team I coach, and this is the best. The grinding stone is dramatically better than the sandpaper like devices I have used previously, and this tool actually makes a hollow and real edges, unlike most sharpeners that really just clean up existing knicks or bad edges. This here is an absolute 'game changer' (pun intended). i was looking to get the edge on those I skate with and this puts the blade precision I've always wanted in my own hands. Permanent residence in this hockey bag. Quality tool that's easy to use made with solid materials that'll outlast my blades. Perfect size and feel in the hand, and for me has turned into somewhat of a modern fidget spinner with its brilliant internal gearing that rotates the stone while I sharpen. ORIGINAL: great tool, my only complain is that I cannot tell whether it's sharp or not, did I do enough strokes or should I keep going? UPDATED: +1 Star I always kept this sharpener in the hockey bag but rarely needed it. Until this one day when right before a game we stopped at the rink shop to get my kid’s skates sharpened. Long story short, due to working in the rush or for the lack of care, they wrecked the blades so badly he couldn’t play or even skate properly. Thank God I had this sharpener with me and was able to fix his skates right on the spot. The game was saved. God bless. Two lessons learned: never trust the shop, and always keep this sharpener with you. ... show more

My son skates 3/8 and usually gets his skates sharpened once a week at a minimum because he skates on a synthetic ice treadmill 1 to 2 times a week. This has helped after those sessions to keep his edges good and consistent. Very well built a d highly recommended. It's kept in his hockey bag and always available. I was pleasantly surprised at how well this product worked. I’m a bigger guy (265lbs/6’3) and just a “D-League” hockey player at best, and decided to give this tool a shot. I usually just go with the standard 1/2” grind from the rink sharpener but went with the 3/8” to try a deeper hollow. After watching the videos and following the directions, I could feel a difference on the ice immediately. Normally when skating I would feel like my blades would “shimmy” when gliding, but with this fresh grind and new hollow, I immediately felt a better grip. How good is the edge when stopping? Well, being a normal slower skater and used to the shallower grind, I nearly launched myself when I attempted my first real stop. The edge was there for sure. After a few more test stops and getting used to the 3/8” cut I was very pleased. Glad I picked this up. ... show more

Product is very useful and very effective in sharpening the skate. My son is currently a 12U travel player and will find the Maintain the EDGE skate sharpener very useful to ensure consistent edges on his skates before all practices and games. I can also see a great use when we are at a rink that does not offer or trust the skate sharpening. I bought the sharpener last month and found it to be very effective in giving me a good inside and outside edge. The "how to use" video was great to ensure proper use.
