I got the 36”x24” and it fits my fireplace perfectly. We live in an old apartment building so everything’s a bit dated, and that includes the old fashioned, wood burning fireplace. It doesn’t have glass doors or anything like that, just the mesh curtain with the metal bar at the top, so the magnets on this cover mainly just attach to that top bar. But the cover is very light so that’s all it really needs to stay securely in place, though the magnets on the other three sides will also adhere to the mesh screen— is just a less solid connection. So for our particular situation, while this doesn’t completely eliminate all airflow it’s definitely a vast improvement. If we are cooking in the kitchen and need to turn on the vent fan right above the stove we have to make sure that the fireplace flue is shut and the opening is totally covered, otherwise the vent fan will suck the fireplace smell into the apartment almost immediately. Before we got this we just used a big piece of cardboard which was ugly and annoying, but now that we have it we just slap it up there quickly and there’s no fireplace smell! It also definitely helps keeps heat from escaping which we really notice on those extra cold nights. So functionally this cover is very effective. This is a nice quality product and blends really nicely with the black metal frame of our fireplace. I will sometimes be sitting on the couch absently looking that direction and realize the cover's there, and think to myself how nicely it blends. I admit to not looking closely enough at the description before purchase. We had a more rectangular fireplace than the sizing is really built for, so we bought the closest measurement that fit both sides and was just big enough on height, but realistically we could have sized up one because the package includes clips to shorten the width (although I don't think it would be as pretty, and wouldn't fit as flush), and it would have been nice to be able to tuck the bottom into the bottommost vents on the fireplace. Overall it is a nice cover for a fireplace we don't use, love that it's washable, and paired with a chimney cover certainly seems to keep drafts down even when the wind is really howling. ... show more

This is a great idea in the middle of winter...and maybe in the summer too? I measured our fireplace and unfortunately, the sizes they offered didn't fit, so I got one that I thought might work best and figured that the magnets would also help to hold it in place. And...it does pretty well...but they really could step up their magnet game. If they were just a bit stronger, it would hold it in place just fine. As I said, it does ok...just not as perfect as it could be. But this is a good heavy weighted cover that in the end I would definitely recommend. ... show more
