Well build but poor sound quality
Color: Black
First the good. This is a well build radio / CD player, it does not look or feel cheap in any way. The buttons are all sturdy, the CD cover is not flimsy. The issue is the sound quality, which is of course subjective. I think I can safely say if you (like me) are still morning the loss of the bass and treble adjustments on audio equipment you probably won't like the sound quality of this device. Technically speaking, the mid range is too pronounced, which is a typical shortcoming in low cost audio equipment, and results in a "nasal" sound quality. Given the cost I can't complain too much so it only looses one star for the sound quality. ... show more

Batteries are an eipic struggle to get into place!
Color: Black
Well I am covered in beads of sweat and POed to the max after trying to get the C batteries in place. That's right. It took forever. Why? The spring slip around as you are trying to center the battery and compress the spring flat. I shoved that battery as far as I could so that it would stay put but it kept flying out of it's compartment and straight UP into the air. After several attempts I'd get ONE in and as I'd be working on the next battery the fist one would decide to pop up on me. I was outside and my next door neighbor heard me cussing and she offered to help me. Young and fit jogger had to same issues so now we are BOTH cussing like sailors. I told her "I can't WAIT to write a review on this thing!" and here I am. NOTHING should be this hard to do. I bought a magnavox portable CD player identical to this one at least 10 years ago and I remember that the batteries just went in super smooth and easy. I still have the original one to compare. It works I just needed a second one for a vacation home. I examined the battery area on the older one and the plastic components on it are FAR superior as they are thicker MUCH harder plastic and the springs are softer and compress like a dream. NOT LIKE THIS NEW ONE I was cussing as sweat poured off of me. I'll do a another review of this after I've played the radio and the CD player because right now I just need to pour me a glass of wine, hit the recliner and decompress. I'm giving it one lousy star just for WEARING ME OUT! ... show more

Buyer beware
Color: Black
Great sound, good quality and easy to use. That was when we got it on August 11th. It has been used maybe 10 total hours since then - today is Sept. 30th. The CD player no longer works and the unit overheats. Magnavox wants me to pay to have a technician call me to discuss the problem and Amazon says it’s not refundable because it’s past the 30 days. The third party that is the seller says it’s Amazons problem now. No, it’s actually my problem now!!! Buyer beware on this item. ... show more

It certainly plays CD's just fine, but man those speakers...
Color: Black
This is definitely a CD player (and theoretically a radio, but I'm not using it for that). It's compact and looks fine. It plays audio CDs (but as far as I can tell, does not play MP3 CDs or anything). It has the worst speakers this side of the Dollar Tree. Muffled and somehow at the same time tinny. I can only describe it as "If I had to listen to music through these, I would hate music." thankfully I'm just using it to play lullabies for my kid at night and he doesn't seem to mind. I haven't tried the radio. I imagine it would have the same sound issues and the station uses a dial on the side with the number pressed into the dial so it seems kind of... difficult to tune but again, I haven't tried it since I don't need it... but if you need a radio I would recommend spending an extra three fiddy and getting something that shows the station on some kind of display... or at least a station BAR and not this dial. It has a little LED display but it only shows CD track numbers or the word "NO" when there's nothing loaded. Additionally there is no line out jack, so you can't connect it to better speakers. There IS a line-in jack if you have another device you want to play through this to punish yourself. Honestly, this is a music machine and it can only be used to listen to music poorly. Save your allowance, wait a week or two and get something better. ... show more
