    • Decent bike, one issue

Bought for 3 year old grandson. Bike was packaged safely with cardboard around every painted surface. Only issue is something I saw in some other reviews. The bolts on the rear wheel were so tight from the factory that it was very difficult to pedal. The front wheel (which I installed) would spin multiple times when pushed. The rear wheel would spin maybe 2 times before the friction stopped it. We had to loosen the nut holding on that rear wheel a bit just to let the darn wheel spin. They took some effort as it was over tightened. My grandson could not pedal it at first but we were able to make it work. Since this same issue has shown up several times, seems like a quality control issue. They must have the Incredible Hulk tightening the nuts in the factory as the torque is far above what is necessary. Fixed now. Rest of the bike was fine. Good size for a 3 year old. ... show more

    • OK starter bike for 3 year old, but did not last long; not well-suited for transition from Strider

Our son rode a strider, so he was ready for a regular bike when he turned 3 without the training wheels. I wanted something that felt very secure, so his feet could be flat. He learned to ride this bike easily--it was almost magical, really, to see him take off in about 20 minutes--but I am replacing it less than a year later. Was it worth it for the money? Probably...but this is a one-child bike it is not in good enough shape to pass on to younger siblings, and it does not work that well for a child who can ride without training wheels because the gears catch when they coast. A kid who learns on a balance bike will want to coast, and the gears will catch. The other cons: -Cannot be stored outside. We parked ours in a bike rack outside our building and it rusted right away -Very heavy--it is hard for me to carry when he gets tired -Limited size range. It is now ridiculously small for our 4 year old (although he is on the tall side -- 42") All in all, I don't regret the purchase but I would not make the same one again. I would start with a nicer 14" bike that would fit for a longer time period. Last night our son tried out a friends bike and it was much easier for him to ride, even though the seat wasn't at the right setting for him. I will qualify that he puts some serious miles on his bike. For example, we commonly take a 3 mile trail around a pond that is a combination of dirt trail and old paved road. He needs to pedal up and down the whole way. This bike does not live up to such a challenge, but is probably great for a young toddler in smooth terrain, and it may be well suited to kids who are learning through training wheels. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. My son loved this bike while it lasted but unfortunately it broke a little after a month of having it! The chain and pedals are lose and I know wear will happen but NOT after a month of a 4 year old riding it!
