  • Finally a very bright LED Maglite. 705 lumens with 9+ hours run time. Moderate easy to handle size.
Style: Display Box Color: Blue
Maglite has finally produced some worthy LED flashlights and rejoined the community of high-quality flashlight manufacturers. This light uses commonly available batteries so you don't need to purchase and recharge lithium-ion batteries that many LED flashlights require, making this flashlight suitable for a far greater range of consumers. This specific light is easy to hold (small diameter) and only about 10 inches long due to its three C size batteries. It produces 705 lumens on high and boasts a battery life of 9+ hours with new Energizer or Duracell Alkaline batteries. It's amazingly bright, and I really couldn't tell a significant difference between this light and my 1000-lumen lithium-ion flashlights. The variable focus from spotlight to floodlight is handy and it's good at both spot and floodlight applications. BE SURE TO CHECK THE SPECIFICATIONS of the Maglite you purchase, as Maglite also produces flashlights with traditional bulbs and others with relatively low lumen LEDs, and specifications of flashlights frequently change as more efficient LEDs become available. This three C cell light claims run times of 9:45 on high, 43 hours on medium, and 184 hours in economic (eco) mode. It also has a strobe function. There is a single button that selects the brightness level. Press once for high, twice for medium, and three times for eco mode. The button needs to be quickly "tapped," not "pressed," to get to the lower light settings. I believe Maglite should have slightly extended the time available to select the lower light levels. I noticed older people (and some younger people) have a hard time consistently getting the light level they want because they don't press the button fast enough and get frustrated. Three buttons for the three light levels would be ideal and add only a small amount to the price. It would be very convenient to be able to select the desired light level directly. This model comes in a variety of colors so be sure to select the color you desire. There is also a two cell version of this light that would be more than sufficient for most household use and it's very conveniently small with only two C batteries. The maximum brightness is 466 lumens, which is notably less than 705 lumens, but still very respectable. The medium and eco modes seem to be the same brightness as the three cell light with the primary difference being the run times -- but the reduced run times are still very respectable. Both the two and three cell lights have four "program" modes that change what happens in each of the three light level conditions (which is Mode One, the default mode). The descriptions usually explain the options available. Essentially, you can get a strobe function, and you can have a function where the light is on only when the button is pressed, but with three light levels, a strobe function, and a "button on" function, there are five available options but only three can be in each of the four programs. It's very easy to change from one program to another in about 5-10 seconds. I normally prefer D cell batteries since they cost the same as C cell batteries but have more than twice the power. In this case, however, the minimized circumference of the flashlight with the C cell batteries makes it so much easier to grasp and manipulate when in awkward or uncomfortable positions that I prefer the smaller battery. The batteries last so long that you won't be changing them very often, so the battery cost issue is minimized. If you're replacing the batteries frequently, you should be looking at rechargeable lithium-ion or NiMH powered lights. The maglites I have (both the two and three C cell versions) are not as robust as I’d like. A one-meter drop onto concrete will likely result in buying a new flashlight. If you drop it on the grass or on carpet there’s a lot more “forgiveness” in its structure. Overall, I think either light is a very good flashlight to have in the home and in each vehicle for emergencies. They can go for years with new high quality alkaline batteries and work fine when you need them as they don’t have the faster and somewhat unpredictable long term self-discharge of the NiMH and Lithium-ion batteries. ... show more

  • Rugged and dependable-highly recommended
Style: Display Box Color: Red
I purchased this MagLite because I wanted a more compact flashlight for everyday use. The first thing you will notice about this product is how rugged it feels. The aircraft aluminum barrel should take any bumps or drops without so much as a dent. The 3 light modes are handy. I found that the eco mode is perfect for walking the dog at night. If I want more light its just a quick press of the button to turn on the brighter modes. The light beam is easy to adjust with a quick rotation of the head. Its compact enough to fit in a glove box or coat pocket. I use rechargeable batteries to minimize any leakage problems with alkaline and they work just fine. This is a high quality item and will probably be the last flashlight you will ever own. I have a couple of MagLites from 40 years ago and they are still going strong. The product carries a 10 year warranty and the manufacturer is based in Ontario CA. Your dollar will be well spent if you choose to buy this flashlight. ... show more

  • Excellent Light!
Style: Display Box Color: Display Box
This light is exactly what I was looking for. It's very bright, sturdy, enough weight to thump a 'tire' if necessary, and small enough to actually carry. It also looks very similar to my Dad's old MagLites I grew up playing with. It's both efficient and nostalgic. The battery life is excellent, too. I'm using rechargeable, 1.5v(regulated) lithium cells and I've never had it die or even dim. For the price, I don't think you could do better. ... show more

  • Great flashlight
Style: Display Box Color: Display Box
Very nice with high and low beam. Takes 3c batteries which makes it heavy to be used around the house but a great outdoor or keep in the auto type flashlight

  • I really like this flashlight!
Style: Blister Pack Color: Blister Pack
***Updated: January 27, 2017*** I've had the flashlight a little while now and have learned a couple of additional things about this flashlight. 1. When your batteries start to run low, you lose the brightest setting. So if your 1st click was brightest, 2nd was medium, and 3rd was lowest, when your batteries are starting to get low, the 1st and 2nd clicks will just be medium brightness. When they get really low, all 3 clicks will just be the lowest brightness. 2. The Quick Focus is nice, but I wish that finest focus was be all the way at one end and the widest all the way at the other. Unfortunately, it's not this way. The finest focus is in between the ends, for some reason. Downgrading from 5 stars to 4 stars because, while I still really like the flashlight, it's not "perfect". ***Original Review*** My kids and I "played" with this flashlight all last night to give it a good testing and so far, I really like it. The first thing I noticed about the flashlight was the size of it compared to it's Lumens, Beam Distance, and battery life. I feel that, for its size and the fact that it only uses 2 "C" batteries, the Lumens, Beam Distance, and battery life are excellent. I feel that this flashlight is perfectly balanced between size and functionality. This is my first LED Maglite. All my previous Maglites have been incandescent. I like that I will never have to change the bulb in this flashlight, as the LED is expected to last more hours than I will likely ever use this flashlight for (50,000 hours minimum). My old incandescent Maglites have a head that turns and turns. This flashlight has a Quick Focus feature that allows you to change the focus of the beam from narrow to wide with only a 1/4 turn of the head, which I think is great. Additionally, the head is unable to turn any further than this 1/4 distance, so you only have the 1/4 distance to move the head back and forth in. I find this helpful in learning what positions the head needs to be in in order to quickly achieve the desired beam focus you're looking for. My 1 year old daughter dropped the flashlight on the wooden floor from about a 1 foot height and it continued to function normally. I'm glad to see that the slightest bump like this didn't kill the flashlight. I would have been extremely disappointed if such a small drop did kill it. I don't plan to drop the flashlight often, obviously, but it does happen. I'm using Odec C Rechargeable Batteries, Deep Cycle 5000mAh NiMH Battery Pack(4 Pack) in the flashlight and it's working well with these so far. The flashlight has a Lumens rating of 490. We turned it on on High in a dark bedroom and, wow, did it light up the entire room! I love that I should get around 15 hours of use even on this High setting and around 112 hours on the lowest Eco setting. To me, that is amazing! We took the flashlight outside and did a distance test in the dark. We are about 700 feet away from the Stop sign at the corner of our street. We could not see the Stop sign in the night, but when shining the flashlight in that direction, we could clearly see the Stop sign. Impressive. Switching the flashlight between the 4 Activity Based Function Sets is really simple. I know that the instructions make it sound like knowing how far to unscrew the tail cap is a bit of a guessing game, but it doesn't need to be. Just hold down the on/off button first, which will turn the flashlight on. Continue holding the button down and then unscrew the tail cap just enough to turn the flashlight off. Then, while still holding the on/off button down, screw the tail cap all the way back in. Now you're in the programming sequence and the flashlight will cycle through the available Activity Based Function Sets for you to choose from. There are a couple of things I don't like about the Activity Based Function Sets, though. My 1st dislike is that there is no Activity Based Function Set which allows you to have the Eco setting tied to the 1st click of the on/off button. Actually, being able to program the on/off button for each of the 1, 2, and 3 click settings separately would have been ideal, but this is not an option. The 2nd dislike is regarding the Multi-Mode functionality itself. It can be a bit difficult sometimes to click 2, or 3, times in a row to get to the right setting you want. You really do need to be fully aware of which setting you are trying to get to *before* you start clicking the on/off button. It does take some practice and decisive clicking. I do like that the on/off button is extremely quiet when clicked, though. Overall, as you can tell, I really like this flashlight, and the price makes it even that much better. (I paid $35.) I don't think that I will personally be going back to the "D sized Maglites anytime soon, as this "C" sized Maglite is such a perfect balance in all areas that are important to me. ... show more
