🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Magicfly Mini Sewing Machine is favored among beginners and those needing a portable, lightweight sewing tool. Its dual-speed settings, extension table, and built-in light are highlighted features that make it user-friendly and versatile. While convenient for basic sewing and small projects, it's noted for its limits such as lacking a reverse stitch function and having issues with consistency and jamming during extensive use.

Pros

  • 👍 Ideal for beginners with its simple functionality
  • 🌟 Comes with useful accessories like bobbins and sewing kit
  • 🔄 Dual power options increase flexibility
  • 💡 Built-in light for better visibility
  • 🏠 Compact and easily portable for travel or classes

Cons

  • ❗ No reverse stitch function, limiting the machine's capabilities
  • 🔧 Can be finicky and tends to jam, especially during prolonged use
  • ⚙️ Inconsistency with tension adjustment, which may be frustrating for some users
  • 🧵 Better suited for occasional projects rather than constant, heavy use

Should I Buy It?

If you're a beginner or need a machine for light, infrequent sewing projects, the Magicfly Mini Sewing Machine is a solid choice. However, if you plan to use a sewing machine regularly or for complex tasks, you might want to consider a more robust option due to its limitations with tension and a tendency to jam with heavy use.

  • Very compact, basic sewing machine with all you need to get started. Very compact, basic sewing machine with all you need to get started.
Color: White
I am used to using conventional, multi-hundred dollar sewing machines. They are large, and heavy. As a matter of contrast, this machine is amazingly compact. You can easily hold it in one hand. It is very light-weight, and easy to move from place to place. A small child can do it. You can even put it in a small backpack or a regular-size lunch box/bag if you wanted to do that, and still have plenty of room available for fabrics, etc. When it arrived, I thought "It's so small - will it actually sew?" I am happy to report that it did - and surprisingly well! Now, this is not a multi-hundred dollar machine. If you want lots of stitch types, or automatic needle-threading, or something with incredible speed that is used to make clothes all day long, this is not the machine for you. But if you want something simple, or something really small, you can't get simpler, or smaller than this! It has an LED lamp to light your work, and two forward speeds - one is fairly slow - good for absolute beginners, and the other provides a decent regular pace that's about twice the slow speed. You can sew by pressing a button on the machine, or by using the plug-in pedal switch. There are a couple of unique things about this machine that would be hard to find elsewhere, at such a low price. First, the ability to run on batteries! You can actually run it on 4 AA batteries, so you can even sew in a cabin or anywhere else that doesn't have wall power. Second is the ability to sew with two top threads at once, which can really increase the strength of the stitch, or result in a colorful addition if you like multiple colors of thread. It is pretty strong. I used it on T-shirt material, and when I wasn't paying attention, went through six layers of cloth at once. I won't say the machine was really "happy" about that kind of load, but it did sew through it, and the stitches stayed even. When you receive the machine, it will be pre-threaded, and the tension for the top thread will be set for you. I would strongly advise you NOT TO CHANGE THE TENSION until you try it out and get comfortable with the machine! Otherwise, you will probably mess up the stitch quality, and you will have to experiment somewhat to get it back again. And that's pretty painful if you're a beginner. It comes with lots of accessories. Really, everything you need to get started, and more. Several thread colors on both regular spools (for the top thread) and bobbins (for the bottom thread). The machine can even be used to wind thread onto the bobbins when you need that. There is also an extension table, to help you work with larger pieces of fabric, or heavier fabric. If you attach the table to the machine, be sure to place the table ON TOP of the edge of the end of the machine, and not even with it. This makes for a small "bump" at the edge of the table, but if you attach it that way, the table will stay in place while you sew, and not slip off the end of the machine. It provides a nice working surface if you set it up properly. Finally, there is a tiny scissors, a seam ripper, and five extra needles in case you bend or break the one you're using. The most important thing you can do before using the machine the first time is to watch the amazon.com manufacturer's videos on the item sale page. There are several of them. Together, they show you, in detail, exactly how to operate the machine, and how to maintain it. The separate videos are short and to-the-point. They will answer pretty much all of the questions I see people asking in other reviews. As an example of some things addressed in the video clips, I've provided a couple of close-ups of the machine. One shows exactly how the needle is inserted - with the flat side facing the throat (right side) of the machine, and the top thread going through the needle from left, to right. The bottom thread comes up from the bottom, and is pulled through the needle plate by the top thread when you set up the machine, as shown in the video clips. The other photo shows a bobbin mounted on the back of the handle you use to move the needle up and down manually, so that you can use the machine to wind new thread onto an empty bobbin. The post to hold the bobbin is simply twisted counter-clockwise to make it pop out so you can put the bobbin on top of it, and after you're done winding new thread onto the bobbin, you can simply take the bobbin off the post, and push the post in - twisting it clockwise to return it to the non-winding position. You can even leave the bobbin winding post out - it won't affect sewing either way. To sum up, this tiny machine is a decent value for the price. It can do most repair jobs, and comes with all you need to get started. It is simple to use, and gets the job done. If your expectations match the price range, you should be very happy with this machine! ... show more

  • Small, finicky at first, functional except no backstitch!
Color: White
We had a little trouble getting started with this machine. We were convinced that is was broken. We persisted and somehow it began working. I have no idea what was wrong at first, we had it plugged into the wall for power, plugged the foot pedal in and it just wouldn't respond. With enough fiddling it eventually started working. It worked well for my 8 year old daughter. She sewed her absolute first project ever on this machine. It went at an appropriate speed for a beginner. It is little and handy to setup. The stitches were even and nicely done. I want to point out for more advanced sewers that this machine does not have a backstitch function. To achieve a backstitch, one would have to turn the project around after a few stitches and repeat until backstitch was complete, then turn project back around to continue sewing. I'm a big backstitch user, so was a little disappointed that this feature is missing. Otherwise this machine was functional, cute, lightweight, very portable, fit back in the original box well. It really did a nice job on my daughters first project and was a hit for her birthday gift. ... show more

  • A Solid, Budget-Friendly Entry Into Sewing
Color: blue
The Magicfly Mini Sewing Machine is an excellent choice for beginners or those who need a portable tool for light repairs. It packs a surprising amount of utility into a small frame, and the included extension table is a major highlight. This table provides much-needed stability and extra workspace, which makes handling larger pieces of fabric or longer seams far easier than on other "mini" models. For a machine that is so affordable, it offers great convenience features like a built-in light, a thread cutter, and a dual-power design that works with either an AC adapter or batteries. In terms of performance, it "works good" for basic tasks like hemming light curtains, fixing a torn seam on a shirt, or working on simple DIY craft projects. The dual speed settings are helpful; the slower speed is perfect for those just learning to control their stitches, while the faster setting helps you breeze through straightforward lines. It’s remarkably easy to thread and set up, meaning you can go from unboxing to sewing in just a few minutes. If you are looking for a "cheap" and functional way to handle occasional household mending, this machine delivers exactly what you need. However, it is important to remember that this is a lightweight machine, so it is "not perfect or strong" enough for heavy-duty work. It will struggle significantly with thick materials like denim, leather, or multiple layers of heavy canvas. If you try to push it through tough fabrics, the motor can strain and the needle may skip or break. Additionally, while the stitch quality is fine for general repairs, it lacks the precision and variety of stitch patterns you would find on a full-sized domestic machine. It’s a great "starter" or secondary tool, but it shouldn't be your primary machine for complex dressmaking or upholstery. Overall, I’m giving this 4 stars. It is an incredibly cost-effective solution for light sewing and small projects. It isn't a powerhouse, but for the price, it’s hard to beat the portability and the added value of the extension table. It’s perfect for kids learning the hobby or for quick fixes around the house where bringing out a heavy, full-sized machine would be too much of a hassle. ... show more

  • Save yourself the trouble and get something better!!!
Color: blue
This machine is complete and utter garbage. I honestly do not understand how it can be a best-seller and have such great reviews. I understand that you get what you pay for, but this is just a piece of crap. I bought it last year and haven't had the chance to use it, until recently. I am getting into costuming and had been hand-stitching for a while and decided to finally pull out the machine and put it to use. The main issue I have with this machine is that it is so darn finicky!!! It is more tempermental than any other piece of machinery I have used in my life. The tension adjustment is a deceptively simple little knob that uses a spring to pin the thread in between two metal buttons. If it is moved just a hair in the wrong direction, you will have a loose stitch or the machine simple won't move and pull more thread from the top bobbin. I have wasted a good 6-7 hours (combined not consecutive) just messing with the tension and sewing test pieces to try and get it right. It keeps jamming up, the thread breads, the stitches come loose etc. The second issue is that it is incredibly inconsistent. Once you think everything is fine and youve got it all set, you'll sew for a bit, only to have it jam up as if the tension is too tight. For me it also has stopped sewing two pieces of fabric together. Yes, you read that right, it is not doing the very thing a sewing maxhine is designed to do.I dont even know how it happened, because I sewed a hem on a skirt just fine less than a week ago, only to have it stop working today with the only thing I touched being the tenion knob. No matter what I have tried, I cannot figure this thing out and get it to sew two pieces of fabric together again! I have looked up several tutorial videos, how-to pages, and gone back to the instruction manual (which is not very explanatory or helpful with troubleshooting) and nothing seems to explain why this machine is so terrible or even give a hint as to how it can be fixed. I am hoping that perhaps I just got a faulty machine and that is why everyone else has so much with it. The only pro is that is small enough and made of cheap crappy plastic so that when you chucked it at the ground like an NFL player who just scored the winning touchdown it will shatter into millions of pieces!!! (I haven't done that yet, but im anxious to try!!!) ... show more

  • Perfect value! Space saver and practical!
Color: blue
This machine is tiny but powerful! I have used fancier machines in the past, and they jam up much faster, and take longer to set up. This machine comes with many accessories and extra thread as well! My biggest complaint is the tension is not adjustable, so to gather slack you have to pull on the guided thread by hand, but it is likely because the internal motor is built to power through! I may attempt to sew some jeans on this, I’m that confident in the strength on the feed. Update : Broke it. The bobbin winder no longer works and feed loses thread every time. I think I got six months of mending done though, Please note, it does NOT have a reverse function, but is entirely USABLE! All you have to do is lift the foot and shift the fabric backwards or spin the garment around if possible, but you have to mind the hand wheel carefully or it will internally detach. ... show more

A lot smaller than I thought. About as big as my hand… but it’s easy to use and works. I made all my ribbon skirts with it and they stayed together just fine.

  • Great Concept, But a Frustrating Reality for Beginners
Color: White
I had high hopes for this Mini Sewing Machine, envisioning it as the perfect tool for quick repairs and simple craft projects. The compact size and the included extension table seemed like a fantastic, all-in-one package for a beginner or for small tasks. Unfortunately, while the idea is great, the execution is deeply flawed, leading to more frustration than finished projects. The primary and most persistent issue is the thread tension. It is incredibly finicky and unreliable. One moment it seems to be working, and the next you have a massive, tangled "bird's nest" of thread on the underside of your fabric, forcing you to stop, cut everything out, and completely re-thread the machine. I spent significantly more time troubleshooting jams and adjusting tension than I did actually sewing. This makes completing even the simplest seam a monumental test of patience. Furthermore, the machine is severely underpowered. It can handle two thin pieces of cotton, but anything more is a struggle. Hemming a pair of lightweight pants caused the motor to strain and skip stitches constantly. Forget about working with denim, canvas, or multiple layers of fabric – this machine simply cannot do it, despite any claims to the contrary. The build quality also feels very cheap; the plastic is flimsy, and the extension table, while a nice thought, is wobbly and provides little real stability. It gets two stars because it technically turns on and can produce a stitch, but its inconsistency makes it practically unusable for any serious purpose. This is not a tool that will help a beginner learn to love sewing; it's a frustrating gadget that will likely turn them off the craft for good. I would strongly recommend saving your money and investing in an entry-level machine from a more established brand. ... show more
