  • Stopped wasting money on the cheap speakers hoping to get good quality
I have wasted more money on cheap speakers hoping for good quality then I paid for these two Mackies. These speakers are dead silent when they are powered on. I have had many cheaper pa speakers that have electrical hiss/squeal before you even connect the first audio cable. That is even with all the gain knobs turned all the way down. These speakers on the other hand are dead silent until you start feeding them a signal. I (and all our supporters seated near them) will really appreciate that fact this year. The Thump Connect app was very easy to connect from my iPhone 7+. The app made it very easy to control up to two speakers from the phone. The sliders were not as touchy/sensitive as some reviewer suggested. I could easily adjust the volume up and down 1dB at a time with no issues. My android tablet on the other had was super touchy. You could bounce from -15dB to +40dB very unexpectedly and good luck ever trying to get it to return to exactly 0dB again. I was a bit disappointed to see that the second speaker can not be blue tooth connected to my PC while it is in slave mode, but it was nice to be able to add a second speaker into the mix without having to run an XLR cable to it. Just set it up near an empty electrical plug, let it auto connect to the master and your ready to start playing music in no time. The first time I connected to the app I did have several unexpected controller disconnected messages. Once I rebooted my cellphone it got better but I still seem to get disconnected in the app when I'm not paying attention to it. If you are just quickly connecting to the app long enough to set some settings and quickly disconnecting, all should be good. I doubt I'd be able to keep my phone connected to the app during a full four hour trivia night event. Using the linked speakers for blue tooth music streaming from my PC or cellphone seems to work really good. Oh, and yes, with two speakers wireless linked you can choose from Mono or Stereo mode and when you change modes you can definitely hear the difference. With two linked speakers, It is not like your typically blue tooth setup where all channels are summed into a single mono channel (unless you want it to be). Overall sound... Everything is very clear and crisp albeit not always as loud as I am use to cranking music up to. These things claim 127 dB SPL, but they are not as loud as my Rockville RPG10 speakers that only claim 119 dB SPL. They sound much cleaner than the Rockvilles do definitely (Rockville speakers tend to be one of the better cheap brands, but getting a perfectly quiet speaker from them is hit or miss). I have yet to hook up the PA microphones to the Mackies but I expect they are more than enough speaker to fill a gymnasium with the voice of our MC. I'll find out in two weeks when we hold our annual trivia night fundraiser. Bass.... it really depends on the type of music you pump thru them. I was initially disappointed when I turned on the 70's classic rock station on Amazon... actually had to turn up the bass on the equalizer. Then turned on the Bethel music channel and had to turn the bass back down. Listened to some Reba, it sounds so good. Nice punchy bass with no distortion, crisp and clean :) Decided to see exactly how much bass I could get out of the speakers... YouTube bass test to the rescue. The walls and floors were rattling in no time but the bass did get pretty muddy in my less that optimal 5 x 8 room. The speakers were smelling pretty warm very fast so I only did the bass test once. Final decision, no need to be dragging that heavy 100lb 15" sub along with me to our events any more. Speaker size - these things are huge/bulky/massive but not extremely heavy. Still I would recommend a two man lift when putting them up on a speaker pole even if you think you can do it alone. I'd hate to see you topple over and drop $500 worth of speaker on the floor. ... show more

  • Perfect for streaming music and having it LOUD
Considered several Bluetooth enabled powered speakers to use in my garage, for parties, and for karaoke while streaming music from my phone or laptop. Researched all of the brands and watched lots of YouTube review before deciding on the Mackie 15BST. Shipping was fast, unit was well packaged and arrived without damage. Downloaded the Thump Connect app and got the speaker setup out in the garage and started to stream some music from Spotify. Wow! It sounds incredible. Super clear, crisp highs, good bass response. It's not "hit you in the chest" bass but that will come later when I add the Mackie sub to the system. It does sound amazing though and if you are using the speaker in a house, or garage, you'll have enough bass without the sub. I just want it all. The unit is well put together and is easy to move with the sturdy handles. It's a little heavy and awkward but hey, that's to be expected. The app works well but is sometimes a little slow to connect but not a deal breaker. Connecting to the speaker via Bluetooth from a phone is easy and fast. Music streams without issue. I'm so happy with the purchase that I've already ordered a second one. I'll order the 18s sub next. If you are on the fence, don't fret and buy this unit. You will be happy. ... show more

  • Great for the Money
I put this speaker squarely between an EV and a Rockville. They are light, making them easy to transport and set up. The mids and highs are good, not fabulous. The Bluetooth feature works like a charm. They link together and you even get stereo separation. I have read here that some don't think they can "Thump." They do! With my DJ controller I can get theses 12" woofers to shake. The on-board three channel mixer doesn't do much, but in the phone app you have a decent equalizer. I was wondering whether or not I will need a 15" Mackie subwoofer to pair with these. I have a small gig in a couple weeks and I am going to try them out without a sub. ... show more

  • Powerful quality sound
I like that the speaker can be placed on the ground out of site but still sounds amazing. I am not a DJ but music is a big part of my family life. We love entertaining and music and dance is a must when we entertain. We needed a speaker that could dish some good sound for a party of at least 50 people. The Bluetooth connection is also really powerful and does not need line of site like most devices. The Thump connect 2 app is also a bonus. I can control the sound and other features from my phone. I am really satisfied with this product. ... show more

  • Bad quality.
First, the Bluetooth sound quality became unusable—very muddy sound. Then we switched to direct cables with the same results. We only used them for occasional house parties, no heavy road use. I do not recommend these speakers at all.

  • Just What I Needed
I'm a "casual" DJ if you will. I generally just DJ a few events a year for family/ friends. I was looking to up my game a little and came across this speaker. I liked the Bluetooth option and the speaker link capability. The speaker looks great and professional. It's noticeable lighter than my other speaker, a Behringer 215D. I connected via Bluetooth from Macbook Pro and didn't have any dropouts. The flexibility of Bluetooth is great and gives me piece of mind if my mixer fails or something. Sound quality is great. Better than my Behringer with better lows/ mids. ... show more

  • Mackie Quality at a Behringer price!
We are likely using our single (for now!) differently than most folks who purchase this Bluetooth enabled PA speaker; we use it in our commercial shared kitchen for music. I appreciate the ability to provide the volume we sometimes like while not self-destructing and distorting like our previous music systems (stereo set up, then a soundbar/sub setup.) We'll likely add a second Thump and connect them wirelessly to completely fill out our sound. The phone/ tablet app works perfectly, and rocking out while working has never been better! ... show more

  • Amazing sound with awesome wireless linking/connectivity
These really do thump...they are Bass heavy and the EQ choices don't leave much to the imagination...you can tailor the High, Med and Low...but you will definitely want a mixer with an EQ ahead of it....the Bluetooth is super clean and the wireless speaker linking is AMAZING...you can connect with Bluetooth AND do wireless speaking linking, in stereo at the same time. Very easy and very clean sound. Definitely good for a quick 2 speaker setup or in a pinch if needed. ... show more
