  • Very good Mac specific ergo keyboard
First time reviewer here. I have been looking for a Mac specific ergonomic keyboard for a long while. This keyboard is good enough for someone to type on for 8 hours a day without killing your wrist and there are many Mac friendly shortcuts which work out of the box without installing any key mapping software. My previous favorite keyboard was a Microsoft Ergo Keyboard 4000, which I used as a basic keyboard without using any F-functions keys for shortcuts. After many years, the wrist rest was all torn. The keys for the newer build of model 4000 feels “sticky”. Macally ergo keyboard is the closest to the model 4000 I found and it is very Mac friendly. The good surprises I discovered, F14 key takes a screenshot. If you work remotely and on video conference calls a lot, this makes your life so easy. What is on the screen can be saved to a PNG file with just one key push. F15 also takes a screenshot, but you need to use a mouse to select the screen area to be saved. F8 key for play/pause works really well. So are the F10, F11 and F12 for mute, lowering and increasing volume. There is a key with a magnifying glass logo that brings up the Spotlight search box. There is a key which brings up the “Force Quit” dialog box. Good for killing a non-responding application. The layout of the main keyboard works as expected. It does not deviate from a straight keyboard layout too much. So if you want to go back to type on a laptop keyboard. You won’t make too many typos. I felt that this keyboard could be perfect if Macally could find better membrane switches. I am not looking for expensive mechanical switches, just a “crispier” typing feeling. ... show more

  • Life changing. Literally.
I switched from PC to Mac a year ago when I joined a new company. My biggest complaint with Mac was how tightly together the laptop keys were placed. I dealt with it for a year but then I started developing wrist issues. I found this keyboard and the wrist issues went away within a couple of days of using it. I highly recommend it. One issue: I almost returned the keyboard because the Return key always seemed to get stuck and/or was difficult to press. I realized today that there is a sweet spot in the middle of that key that needs to be used. I finally put a sticker on where that spot is to ensure I could easily press there without having to look down. See photo. This resolved my one complaint about the keyboard. ... show more

  • Keyboard potential not yet reached
There is no doubt that the goal of an ergonomic keyboard for this company is almost a reality. I think It needs to go through one or two of more iterations. I like the contoured keyboard with the wrist rest. It is comfortable to use. I don't like the fact that pressing the caps lock key does not always turn on the caps lock light at the top of the keyboard. I've found if I unplug the keyboard and plug it back in, that the caps lock key light starts working again. Very inconsistent. Other than that, key travel is acceptable. The width between the keys which, for me, seems wider than some, is acceptable as well. If you are expecting a true tactile experience with a satisfying click, you may be disappointed in this keyboard. However, those of you who like a quiet keyboard, this will fit the bill. I originally gave this review 3 starts but after reflection as I am writing this review, I bumped it up to four stars. I write technical documents and am still hesitant about using this keyboard full-time for that effort. I am a keyboard junkie and will probably experiment with other keyboards besides this one. This keyboard will satisfy those who enjoy a comfortable keyboard. ... show more

  • Was surprised at how much I liked this over my last keyboard
I used a small keyboard before this one and was a little nervous about getting a larger keyboard. However, I really do like how my hands feel more naturally set when using this ergonomic keyboard. I like the wrist rest especially. I don't mind typing as much now! I also like that this keyboard is fairly quiet while typing. Even though the keys travel quite a bit more than the keyboard on my MacBook, it feels like it takes less effort to type on this keyboard. My only complaint is that the command key isn't wider like on a standard Mac Keyboard. I use my left thumb to hold command down and then press X, C, and V for cut, copy, and paste. This feels a little more awkward for some reason, although I have gotten used to it. When I was shopping for a new keyboard, I was looking at this one and the Apple Magic Keyboard (the small one) which is twice as much in price. I'm actually glad I got this one because I like having the ergonomic layout, and the extra keys. Plus I don't need really a wireless keyboard. One funny thing I've noticed about these ads for Mac Keyboards is that they show the keyboard being plugged directly into the side of a newer MacBook even though they aren't USB-C. Fortunately you can get a cheap USB adapter though. ... show more

  • The first real functional ergonomic keyboard for Mac OS.
I’ve been looking for a more suitable ergonomic keyboard for the Mac OS. I’ve tried Apple’s keyboard and while all the functions worked, it is not very easy to use, it’s easy to mistype. I’ve also tried the Microsoft natural keyboard 4000, however, Microsoft does not a driver for it. I’ve even tried some open source key mapping software, but that was not useful. The Logitech keyboard for Mac OS looks promising but at more than 2x the price of the Macally Mac keyboard, it is not a good buy. The Macally keyboard has good travel, keys are quiet, much like the Microsoft natural keyboard. The pad rest is comfortable. And most importantly, the keys mirror what’s on Apple’s keyboard in terms of functionality. You can put your Mac with the keyboard’s dedicated power key, you cannot do that with the other keyboards. This is a great keyboard for programmers, and gamers. If you work with Eclipse on Mac, the CMD keys are on either side of the keyboard, so you no longer have to go through some hand contortion to navigate to the definition of a variable like you do with a windows keyboard on Mac OS. Now, is it all rainbows, roses and unicorns? No, but close. I wish the space key extended the length from left to right, instead of having 2 space keys. This could also be that I’m not used to it, yet. ... show more
