Just what I needed awesome

  • Impulse Buy for the Win!
I first must confess something... this was 100% an impulse order. I do not work in law enforcement or security. I know some people use body cameras for ride sharing and delivery jobs (which I think is smart), but I do not do either of those things. Despite this, there are a million reasons why you may feel like a body worn camera is useful, and for me I really only had one: to tease my wife whenever we have a disagreement. You see, I can put this body camera on to record the contents of our discussions, and then replay it later to see whose version of the story really holds weight. It turns out, my wife has been right all the time. But for that one occasion where I am in the right, this little camera will exonerate me! That day will come... it will come... So how is the camera? I find it to be pretty good overall. It comes with a couple different clip options depending on what you need to attach it to. It comes charged, and loaded with the 64 bit memory card pre-installed. So in short, it is good to go straight out of the box. I do wish it came with picture instructions for the clips, but presumably if I was in law enforcement or security it would be quite intuitive. The buttons on the camera are a little tricky to figure out, but nothing that the user manual and/or pressing buttons at random until you figure out what they do cannot resolve. There are quite a few features packed into this. In addition to the video recording, it has an audio only recording feature, an emergency light and siren option (its not too loud though), a red and blue alternating light option (not too bright), and a button that switches your video to night mode (the button itself shows a flashlight icon which would make you think it turns on a flashlight, but instead it just switches the camera to see in the dark). I suppose if I could add any feature, it would be a flashlight. It would be kind of cool to have light emanating from the middle of my chest like Iron Man. But alas, it is not meant to be. Despite this, I really like this little guy. You never know when it may come in handy. I definitely recommend! ... show more

  • OK as a body/dashcam but needs some tweaks
I got the kit that comes with the 64GB miniSD card included, so it was nice that I could use it right off the bat. The kit also came with USB-A to microUSB charging cable and two different clips to attach to your body. First off, the buttons are quasi-intuitive for on/off, camera, lighting, and video recording. I couldn't figure out how to get from playback to normal camera operation and had to go to the manual. And therein begins the rabbit hole of long press and short press instructions to get to the fine tuning of the camera. It turns out that UNINTUITIVELY the video button is the back button for all menu tasks - go figure. As for video and sound quality - it's not bad. I intend to use this as a dash cam (more on that), and for that the video quality is just fine. I believe there are 4 types of video quality to choose from, which is more than what I need. It's not hi def, but is adequate for traffic and trails. You can download files to your computer via the microUSB cable provided or by removing the miniSD card. This was also a bit of a tweak for me as I use iOS and my macBook would not recognize the card. I ended up reformatting the card as a FAT storage device and now am able to flawlessly download. If you have trouble downloading, you may need to play around with the card formatting for iOS or PC use. This camera is NOT equipped with the standard screw hole for using multiple mounts, it only has a square clip attachment at the top rear. While there is a MaxKey kit sold for setting up as a dash cam, you cannot purchase the suction mount clip anywhere online, so that part is a bit frustrating. I am currently using the large body clip on the visor for a car mount as I search for a suction mount clip for windshield attachment. I've contacted MaxKey via the provided gmail account in the manual and have not heard back if they can sell the suction mount separately. Overall, not a bad body/dashcam for the price, if you have patience. Video and audio quality are okay. Non-intuitive button design and non-standard mounting and microUSB are the biggest downsides. You will have to figure out a mount yourself if you want to adapt it as a dash cam like I am. EDIT: Maxkey customer service rocks - I was able to get in touch with them and they sent me a car adapter kit. One star improvement for such great customer service! ... show more

  • Cool As All Get Out Body Cam
I needed something for a video shoot to do body cam footage for some joke videos on IG and this camera ended up working out great! I bought another one, but found the quality to be subpar even for bodycam standards and just too shaky overall.. So I am very glad I found this one because it definitely looks great and not nearly as shaky as some on the market. Overall really nice build quality and interface, very easy to use and simple to take files off of. This is definitely a keeper and the bodycam I would go with! ... show more

  • It's complicated, but works great
I've been using this several days, and it works great. The image is nice and clear, and the audio better than expected. I have to keep in mind this isn't an action camera, so there's no image stabilization, or other similar features. This is for recording events that could come into question later, and it does that perfectly, well sort of. I also found the battery life to be quite good. The clips attach securely, and hold really well. Recordings can be transferred by removing the included 64 GB card, or plugging the USB cable into a computer. My main complaint though, is that it isn't super intuitive to use. There's lots of buttons, which adds function, but also adds some confusion. I would have liked to have seen a large button on the front for record, and a second button to turn the IR light on. The rest could be left in the menus. Next gripe, who uses this old style USB Mini? I'm not deducting for over complication, or choice of USB. The reality it does work very well, and it comes down to personal choices for me. I feel like if someone needed to record a event, possibly in a stressful situation, then having to recall which of the 10 buttons to press might be a bit of an issue? As I said though, it works perfectly as designed, it's very well made, and I had no problems using it. ... show more
