We usually used Avian Sun, but the bulbs tend to get outrageous after a while so we tried this. The birds *immediately* took to the light, racing to get under it to preen. I have been very impressed with the difference it's made for them, I ordered a hookbill light for the parrots but even the finches seem to enjoy it (all freefly in the house) It's pricey but if you're looking for a light supplement for your birds, after several attempts to find something my flock actually enjoyed having on in the dim winter months we've finally found one. Coupled with the dimmer switch, it's so much more hands off, and I know my birds appreciate the regularity and consistency. Highly recommended for low light situations. ... show more

This light is awesome! Not bulky like the others. Gives beautiful light. I have a Quaker parrot and the chew proof features of the light and cord are game changers. The steel ties are ingenious. I’ve been using for my parakeet cage since October. Since the top of the cage is flat, I simply laid the light fixture on top of the cage in the middle, only needed to attach the metal-protected cord to the side of the cage to prevent it from being scooted & frightening the birds by moving the light. Other reviews noted no heat was produced, however I keep my cage covered in winter (except in front) to prevent drafts, & I did notice some warmth from the light. To be safe, I found a tray that does not conduct heat that was nearly the same length as the light & laid it upside down over the fixture to keep any warmth away from the cloth cage cover, as well as direct warmth back into the cage. Problem solved. I love the amount of light throughout the cage, & the birds seemed more active & lively too. Now I’m noticing that one of the birds who’d had pale, sparse feathers has returned to his former vibrant colors, & new feathers are growing in! Definitely worth the investment, even though I needn’t have bought the type for birds that chew since the fixture is installed on the outside of the cage. Still worth the money to see them enjoying renewed health and an active life even when the house is chilly in the winter. Would buy again! ... show more

I wish I'd known about the importance of this kind of light before. My parakeets are in a big cage right by my balcony door and they get a lot of indirect natural light. I really like the dimming feature. It turns from dim to bright at the scheduled time and does the reverse at dusk. Programming the time was a tiny bit awkward for me at first, with multiple button presses to get to the right setting section (hour or minute) but all good because I now because I got the hang of it. Was not able to install at the top of the cage due to my cage design so installed outside the cage toward the bottom and it works fine. ... show more

I got the light and the timer. Easy set up. I love how the light goes on and off slowly, mimicking sunrise sunset. It has only been about 6 weeks and already I see positive progress on my birds feathers, mood and appetite. My husband died 3+ years ago and it really made an impact on my feathered baby.
