  • Things Aren't Necessarily As They Appear...
Size: 4-inch Woofer Style: Standalone Speakers
This audio system has beautiful sound and they look nice. But from my background in electronics I can figure out that this "flutter" sound and low level static that I'm now getting --- though down in level (barely audable right now) --- will get worse because it's abviously eminating from a leaky capacitor in the power supply. So, being that I bought these less than a year ago (Nov 2018), I decide to get out the warranty. And in the very first paragraph the warranty states: "This warranty EXPLICITLY EXCLUDES POWER SUPPLIES and included cables which MAY BECOME DEFECTIVE AS A RESULT OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR." So obviously they don't have any confidence in the power supply they put into their equipment. And now I don't either. This stuff is real junk. ... show more

  • The sound coming out of these speakers are good
Size: 4-inch Woofer Style: Standalone Speakers
I actually read the goods and the bads regarding these M-audio Av42 speakers before diving into purchasing a pair myself. Some stated that at super high volume, the sound get distorted and/or cutoff all altogether. I did not experience any of the issues. My pair of speakers is routed to a DAC. My configuration in win 10: > win10 media player volume is set at 65% > win10 speaker mixer volumne is set at 70% > M-audio speaker volume knob, when JUST adjusted to 30%, the music fills up the room pretty big. I tried at 50% volume(this is overkill for me) and the sound is pretty clear, with no static or sound distortion or cut of any sort. I have not tested at higher than this nor have the need to. So my impressions for the month i've owned this pair of M-audio speakers at the above setup, I'm very pleased of the result. The cons: > at 150, it is pretty pricey i think? probably would have been a terrific deal at 100 dollars. > Materials could have been abit better Will keep this review updated if I experience any abnormality within 1 yr of usage. Otherwise, at 1 month usage with my current test as mentioned above, this pair of speakers definitely deserves 4/5. ... show more

  • M-AUDIO not what it once was.
Size: 4-inch Woofer Style: Standalone Speakers
I received this item dead on arrival. Then it worked for about two minutes, then died and would not revive. They have a manufacture date of Feb 2015 on the box so they've clearly been slow moving, or I got something from the back of a warehouse somewhere.. Weird. Annoying. I thought these would make a good replacement upgrade for the M-Audio AV-30 which I currently own and - they do not. There are many reviews which already say - these are inferior to the older M-Audio products they are meant to replace. M-Audio is diluting their brand with this cheap stuff. ... show more

  • Amazing sound, minimal desktop footprint
Size: 4-inch Woofer Style: Standalone Speakers
Really happy with these speakers. I got a recommendation from a few friends who are house DJs, and these don't disappoint. Currently using them in my office setup just hooked in directly to my Macbook, and the sound quality is phenomenal. --- 7/30/2017 Update: I've had these speakers for over a year now, and I'm a huge fan. Highly recommend. Here's the skinny: I've gotten into DJ'ing the last few years (at this point mostly just recording sets on my Traktor S2 and sharing on Soundcloud), so I wanted to find a good set of speakers that I could take with me if I wanted to go DJ a house party. But, my main use for these is in my home office (I work remotely), and as desktop computer speakers, they really shine too. I tend to play a lot of electronic (EDM, deep house, ambient), rap and hip hop, and modern pop/electronic. When I'm not wearing my noise-canceling headphones, I'm blasting the music on these speakers. The sound is REALLY good. I'm speaking as a person with audio production experience, and also experience wiring and installing car stereo systems (the kind with 10s and 12s in the back...and 600W amps and 1GW capacitors). These speakers aren't going to get a whole house bumping exactly, but they will get a whole room or floor bumping. Lows are pretty solid for a system without a subwoofer, mids are great, and the highs are crystal clear. Best part is that they have their own analog volume control on the speakers, so you can adjust both via the digital input (on your computer), and on the speaker itself. ... show more

  • M-Audio has been good to me, but these speakers died after 8 months of use.
Size: 4-inch Woofer Style: Standalone Speakers
I always thought M-Audio was a decently solid brand. Unfortunately these speakers died 8 months into use. I have a pair of M-Audio AV40 speakers that I bought almost 10 years ago now and they're still going strong. I bought this updated version on the reputation of their previous speakers. Unfortunately, these speakers have another issue outside of having kicked the bucket: if there is no audio going to the speakers they go to "sleep". When audio starts again, there's a 0.5 second delay before the audio kicks in again, even though power is going to the speakers and I never shut them off. I imagine this was done to stop complaints about a hiss coming from the speakers. But I never noticed a hiss in the older version of the speakers. I'm hoping this isn't a sign of worse things to come from M-Audio. For now, I will be buying a used pair of their older model. Here's to hoping M-Audio doesn't get miss managed out of existence by producing low quality products. ... show more

  • The AV30 this speaker replaces is superior.
Unfortunately the AV30, this speaker's predecessor, is no longer available. What is immediately obvious is how much less detail, dynamic range and transparency the AV32 has compared to its predecessor. I would have thought that since such a speaker would be designed to work near field with a computer, that its shielding against power hum would be better, too. You get what you pay for, and in 2020 the price paid for these speakers isn't much. My advice would be to do a bit more research and spend more money for a better product than this is. ... show more
