I was expecting a more blue color to the guitar, but the one we got is mostly black with barely any blue right in the center of the body. The clip on tuner is junk, but then again I've never had a cheap tuner that worked properly. The overall construction of the guitar body and neck seems good, sturdy enough for my 6 year old to begin learning on. I will be replacing the strings that comes with it to a heavier gauge string, probably 13 gauge, as the tiny little strings that come on it fall out of tune very quickly after just a bit of picking. The amp works, however the facing of the amp over the speaker part was shoved in on one side. It doesn't appear to effect the performance, however it does look weird having the covering pushed in on half the speaker along the outside edge where it meets the outer shell. I didn't use the cord that comes with it, I got an L shaped one separately, but I'll keep the cord that came with the kit as back up. When the guitar is in tune it sounds good. Changing the strings will make it sound better, just something for others to know so they can order better strings along with their purchase. I purchased this kit for $159, and if we weren't going through serious inflation right now I'd say this kit is more of a value of about $99. I certainly wouldn't pay more than $159 for it, so if the price goes up, I'd say pass on the kit and find the pieces separately. I imagine as inflation goes stupid the prices of items like these will bloat up if they are even available in the future. So if you are looking for a christmas gift or a musical instrument for your homeschooled child this year, I would say this guitar kit is worth it at the current price. And if you have a Steam account you can get Rocksmith still, but it won't be available for much longer as a full game paid for once, as Ubisoft is going to a monthly sub version next year. I have a number of guitars some more high-end than others, I was pleasantly surprised at how well-made this guitar is. My daughter loves the pink on it and honestly the guitar sounds good for the money (could maybe use some minor crowning work on the frets, but that would cost more than the guitar.) For the price the amp is okay, a little popping and crackling if you move too much, but if you're just playing it sounds okay. ... show more

Title says it all. I worked for 7 years in music retail and did setups and light repairs on guitars when our luthier was backed up. Guitar is definitely suitable but I think I was sold a display model or a return as there was some light scratches and the knobs show signs of wear. No fret buzz, no truss rod adjustment needed. This comes as a surprise given the guitar was loosely packed. Pickup is decent for the price point. The biggest thing that bugs me is they do not sell a guitar only model. I have tons of amps for my daughter to use and this one is a paperweight at best. It'll work, but not sure I would buy from this company again. ... show more

    • An excellent first guitar kit

I have been playing guitar and bass for almost 40 years. I am not a professional but I have played in a number of actively gigging original bands and recorded 5 independent releases with the bands. My 7 year old son started taking interest in my guitars, but I am not about to hand a Les Paul over (even just the weight of it is not appropriate for a little guy). I bought my first guitar from the Sears catalog back in 1982. It was not very good and the action set so high that my fingers could get caught between the strings at the higher frets (but I didn't know any better at the time and I was leaning on myown). After a bit of online research I settled on this kit. Upon arrival I immediately opened it and started checking all the components. Everything works and is of good quality for the price. The guitar is overall well built and looks just as depicted. I was impressed by the action, which can really get in the way of learning if it is not appropriately set. The guitar had obviously been pre-tuned and had maintained it fairly well (considering the thermal fluctuations it must have been subjected to in transit - it's December - and during storage). I enjoyed playing the instrument, keeping in mind it's not a high end instrument but an excellent one for the price. The amplifier is just right. No one wants to lose sleep to a 7 year old playing guitar and the amp provides enough volume to have a lot of fun but not wake up grandma. It also has a headphone jack. It has quite a bit of range (again for the price), and the built in distortion is rather pleasant (think early Black Sabbath but also able to get more modern tones by playing with the bass and treble). The clip on tuner worked as expected and is very easy to use. The strap is functional and appropriate. Would I use this guitar to play a gig or record? sure, why not? it's a fine instrument that gets the job done and I had fun mucking about with it. Nothing fancy but everything about it is better than adequate and an excellent first guitar kit. If this had been my first guitar I would have had a much easier time learning how to play than I did with the one I actually had. ... show more
