  • Great intro lyre - take your time with tuning
This little lyre sounds great! I'm a guitar player but been wanting to dabble in other stringed instruments so I decided to spring for this. I read some of the reviews and a lot of people complained about tuning and breaking strings and what not. You must take your time. All stringed instruments need a lot of tuning and adjustment at first. Yes, you will tune all the strings and they will be out of tune by the time you get to the other side. That's normal. It will probably take at least an hour of constant retuning at first as the strings stretch out and the lyre gets acclimated to your climate. You only need to barely turn the wrench to tune it - if you crank it you're going to break the strings. Be slow and patient. As someone who can read music, I figured the little book of songs they had in the package would at least have standard notation but it's a weird lyre tablature - not a fan personally, but you can easily find actual sheet music for lyre online and will likely be easier to read since this lyre is only in the key of C - no need to worry about sharps and flats on the notation. That being said, you totally can tune the lyre differently if you want to play in another key. You could make all your F's sharp to play in G major/E minor for example. It's kind of weird to hold, but I'm not completely used to it yet. It's far easier to pick up and play something than guitar, especially if you understand what notes are in the chords of the C major scale. Seems like a decent instrument for the price and it looks nice too! ... show more

  • So easy to play! So easy to play!
I love this! Easy to play, even for those of us with poor hand strength, and sounds wonderful. There are some great easy songbooks available or just pluck away at it. You do need to be very gentle tuning it because the note will change with barely a touch. I found that the D'Addario Violin Tuner will fit on the side, which I much prefer to using a phone app or similar detached tuner. ... show more

  • Beautiful instrument
I have been playing piano, guitar, and dulcimer for years and decided to try the Lyre Harp. Beautiful piece!!!! Beautiful wood, excellent sounds when tuned properly. It's extremely affordable for a good instrument. I'm very pleased.

  • Good for Guitar Player
Instrument is solidly build and sounds surprisingly nice. Tuning takes a little getting used to, but if coming from other stringed instruments like a guitar it isn’t so bad, stays in tune for a few days before needing adjustment. Bridge is made of a very soft wood that is cut easily by shifting of the steel strings and causes some string buzzing, so I will need to replace bridge eventually with a tougher wood. Recommended for people who already play stringed instruments like the guitar and are used to doing minimal tinkering and maintenance, not so much for a complete beginner. ... show more

  • Beautiful, rich sound
This lyre is made well, sturdy and smooth, and emits a very pretty sound. I am no musician, but simply an amateur with an ear for melody. Some reviews mentioned difficulty with tuning, but I did not experience that issue, it seems to tune well. It's aesthetically very attractive. I highly recommend if you are in the market for a perfectly-sized, well-made, reasonably-priced lyre. ... show more

  • Beautiful instrument that makes the house feel like a renaissance festival
I'm a longtime musician but new to lyre harps. This has been a lovely instrument for my daughter. She plays piano at the professional level and tuned and played her harp immediately. She loves it. It sounds medieval. She's tuned in in C Major and HIjaz scale. Excellent instrument.
